I’m going to pick up a copy of your book. I hope you’ll consider narrating an audiobook version. Your voice is great! As a fellow novelist and parrot owner (3 amazons, 4 conures, 2 kramers!), the main issue with narrating is finding a quiet space in the house 🥴

You made me laugh! Yes, narrating in the house for my books or a video is a challenge, at least! Fellow novelist, eh? Awesome! What do you write?

I bought a three-month old cockatiel and the first day, he bit me; he supposedly is handfed. Is he? Please! Let me know!!! Thanks!!!

I can’t say. They do bite, even when they are hand tame. You just have to go slow and let mutual trust build. Think of it from his perspective, he’s very small, you are very big in comparison. Go slow sing to him. Be very sweet and he will come around. Cockatiels are amazing.

@@ParrotBliss I really appreciate your taking the time to respond to my inquiry. I'm so sad because my little one-year old female just died a couple days ago and I bought this new baby. So it means a lot you responded to me. Thanks!!!

What is the best age to adopt a caique please? Xxx
@ParrotBliss
@ParrotBliss 8 месяцев назад
It depends on the bird, but generally once they are weaned

@ParrotBliss thank you very much:) would you recommend a baby that's weaned or rehome a caique at 1+? I'm leaning towards a younger bird so that no bad habits have been put in place. Or are they still young enough to adapt at 1? Thank you so much for replying xxx

Hello! What is you let the parents feed the baby, while you still touch him, caress him, etc? I don’t understand why letting the parents take care of the feeding, excludes the presence of the rest of the family.
@ParrotBliss

Because it is not natural to the parents. They fight you and get stressed.

Thank you for sharing the information.. I have a mother macaw sitting on the eggs I was thinking about to pick up the babies when they're like 6 weeks old ? Any thoughts on that ?

Depends - I usually pull when the babies open their eyes. However, being with mom or spending time with them but letting them live with mom can be really good too.

I bought my first bird at a pet shop (cockatiel) and we bonded super easy by the first day she was on my shoulder asking to be let out her cage. Then a month later I decided to adopt a greencheek from an aviary. I was told she was around 11 month old and the experiences of both birds couldn't be more of a contrast. The first days and for the first couple weeks the conure was running around my room trying to get away from me every chance she got and it was heartbreaking but slowly she started to come around she bonded with my cockatiel naturally as she would want other birds around her because that is what she was used to, I kept both birds in my room so they could get used to my presence. When she saw that the cockatiel trusted me, came to me for food and preened me it definitely played a part in getting her out of her shell. she started to come to me whenever she needed anything and we bonded in about 2 months and it was a complicated process. It would of taken much longer absent my cockatiel, if you guys are looking for a pet a petstore or a breeder who does handfeeding is your best bet if you don't want to go through months long process of rewiring your bird.

Yes, it is quite a difference. I think that someone who hasn't had parts before really should start with a parrot that is easy to bond with, as your experience was with your cockatiel. Starting with a bird that doesn't want to be near you or that bites can be very challenging and maybe best for someone who is more experienced. Good for you for being persistent and sticking with them both, that is wonderful!

What if your tame pet parrot raised their chicks and you handled them regularly? Would that be different? (a hands on bird like a green cheek for example)
@ParrotBliss
@ParrotBliss 3 года назад
Yes, that can help. However, some parents react poorly to a person going into the nest box. Some will abandon or damage their babies. Working with the babies while the parents feed them is called co-parenting. If you do so, you would have to spend a lot of time with the babies.

I will make a video when I can, it can take a couple days- in the meantime, know that being patient and consistent make the difference.
