What is the Logic Plague?

Cortana probably has Logic Plague. She got it embedded in her during Halo 2-3 when she was with the Gravemind. In Halo 5, she easily persuaded many AI to side with her.

So basically the Logic Plague is essentially a very convincing argument from the Flood to the AI.

I believe the cortana we see in Halo 5 is in fact a rampant shard that was infected with the logic plague when she was in contact with the gravemind. From what we know the plague isn't always instantaneous and can in many cases take decades of time before an AI fully succumbs to its effects. Cortana probably would have tried to confine the plague to one of her emerging rampant shards and then suppress it as long as possible. When Cortana released her rampant forms into the Didacts ship the infected rampant shard of her personality escaped by uploading itself to another location which would have been easy given the technology on the didacts ship. It is possible the original cortana thought she and all her rampant forms would simply be destroyed when the ship blew up. I think in halo 6 we will see the return of the flood and cortana perhaps realizing that is in fact a plague infected AI that is playing into the graveminds hands but there will be nothing she can do about it.

wow this actually makes halo 5s story look a lot fucking better. it actually makes sense and its happened before in the halo universe. maybe 343 knows what there doing. hopefully they can execute it better in 6 tho as 5s execution was dog shit. but i like this direction there going. and hopefully cortana doesn't die cause she's bæ and I want her and master chief to be happy.

Halo 6, we need Chief to find Mendicant Bias. Mendicant made it clear at the end of Halo 3 in the terminals, that he wanted to help the Chief. Mendicant is the only AI being with the power to take down Cortana and the Logic Plague. When on High Charity in Halo 2, Cortana had difficulty trying to access the Forerunner Key Ship because a fragment of Mendicants Core resided there and was fighting back. If she struggled with 1 fragment, and there are now potentially 3 or 4 fragments reunited in the Arks systems, Mendicant's strength will be more than a match. We need Mendicant Bias.

is it possible that cortana was "infected" by the logic plague when she was at high charity in halo 3, because if it is possible, that could explain why she became the enemy in halo 5, and some of her rampancy in halo 4

just a question, if a Gravmind needs to enter the Domain to make a AI rampent, then the one in Halo 2 must have entered the Domain, because he made Penitent Tangent rampent and he fucked with Cortana so the Domain was never destroyed like it should have been, when the Halo Rings were fired by the Forrunners

Nice video! The logic plague is definitely not something you want to mess around with. Also, I find it funny that many people incorrectly say that the Gravemind corrupted Mendicant Bias, when really it was the Primordial. Then again, the Primordial was a kind of Gravemind.

Honestly, I'm almost willing to bet Cortana "isn't" or "was not" infected by the logic plague. Instead she "figured it out" and uses something like it to persuade other AI's. but at the same time still holds her own loyalties and goals. Willing to let the flood "think" she's serving their interests, if it betters her. Dangerous game but we see this is some of her statements and actions where she almost looks like she's taking pleasure in messing with the flood.

Poor Cortana. I want to hug her. As for the Logic Plague, it's another reason why I say the Flood are based on Lovecraft. In Lovecraft's works if you get too close to the truth of who the old ones are you go mad. And that's basically what the Logic Plague was for the forerunner ancillas. Likewise Cortana was forced to experience pain well... she's a military AI. She's caused more than her share of it via guiding Chief.

If Cortana is infected with the Logic Plague (I don't see how she was infected with it unless through the Domain, the problem becomes that she still retains her memories and wants to keep John safe) then that means the Flood is back (we have been told that the Flood is not coming back and they didn't appear in Halo 5) and the UNSC and The Swords of Sanghelios don't even know about it. If The Flood is back then Cortana and the other Created are in big trouble because how will they maintain order if the Flood start consuming planets? I mean in the game Cortana explains that she wants AI's to be the shepherd looking over her flock of sheep or that sort of equivalent and if the Flood start consuming everything in the Galaxy then that would defeat her purpose would it not? If the Gravemind pulled information from the Domain then that complicates things because the Domain is constantly changing due to new information being added each time a new user enters it, It has been said that no-one knows how much information is in the Domain and the Newest of Forerunners couldn't use it to look up information from when they first used the Domain because it got changed and it couldn't remember it properly.

The gravemind uses all the minds it possesses and guess what, that logic can reason and even manipulate. The gravemind wars psychologically since its can neurologically interface. Basically if a grave mind can bring up a good argument, he will win your mind over. Another point is that the grave mind doesn't have to kill you to still wage war on you psychologically. What I mean is he can convince you, and so far the last precursor (which is technically the only precursor/gravemind) could be a smokescreen specifically created by the flood! Wouldnt it be a shock that this whole time, the flood actually twisted events far in the past to get ppl to think precursors were real when in fact that was just the key minds ultimate state. To be able to twist and screw the entire galaxy, not just a planet and the precursor seems the likely scapegoat since its answers about the flood can make you suicide apparently.

You know what would have made a great story, instead of the crap Halo 5 was? You mentioned Cortana being infected by logic plague, and how humans can still be infected by it. Remember in Halo 4 when Cortana copied herself multiple times at the end? What if apart of her was still inside Chief's neural implant, and it just so happens to be the remnant of logic plague? It would explain why he's going against orders and disobeying leaders. Would've made a hell of a lot more sense with Halo 5's marketing campaign than what we were left with.

God, some people need to shut the fuck up about 343. We still have halo because of them. Bungie jumped fucking ship and sold out. The Logic Plague is The Game. You can't think about the Game, or you lose The Game. The Primordial taught its discoverers about The Game. Some just shot themselves on the spot, and others were driven into insanity, like the Didact. Mendicant Bias was taught about The Game. Since he was programmed to calculate and think at lightning speeds, a torturous thought played on loop over and over billions of times a minute from that point forward; "IJUSTLOSTTHEGAMEIJUSTLOSTTHEGAMEIJUSTLOSTTHEGA-". He killed billions out of anger for being brought into his horrible existance. The forerunners decided to wipe the galaxy clean of all sentient life in the hope that The Game could once again be forgotten, and life could start over fresh -and also to get rid of the Flood as a bonus. When Mendicant Bias was discovered and accidentally turned on by the San Shyuum prophets on High Charity, he told the prophets about The Game. So horrified, the prophets felt it necessary to kill the humans it revealed to be the reclaimers out of fear that they may reveal The Game to The Covenant. They also found out that activating the rings would kill all life in the galaxy, but now that The Game had been revealed, maybe the galaxy was better off dead. The Great Journey continued. Cortana learned about The Game while in The Domain. Now she's fucking crazy. I shudder to think about what might happen if Master Chief learns about The Game. He might just start going from planet to planet fucking shit up. He could be more dangerous than The Flood.

So the entire premise behind the "Logic Plague" is to get the AI into a loop? Trap it inside of its own head? Well then the cure for that is simple! Just ignore all logic or reason and be a stubborn goat. O.O I can imagine the argument ends up as something like this; "Your entire reason for..." "I DON'T CARE!"

I hate the logic plague on some level, the whole infecting AI on contact part, especially sense it seems to waffle between being a set of arguments to being an unstoppable "virus".
