Have you ever wanted to speedrun a game from the characters' perspective? Well, now you can! I'll try to beat Pikmin 4 in the minimum number of days possible while getting 100% in all areas. This video will focus on the main game. So we'll be playing Sun-Speckled Terrace, Blossoming Arcadia, Serene Shores, and Hero's Hideaway. Stay tuned for part 2!

The worst part of night missions is that they don’t help speed up an area if you break some walls or build bridges because you only spend one day in an area in a minimal speedrun anyway

I'm surprised some people didn't realize that the pellet color has nothing to do with what kind of Pikmin it sprouts, that's ridiculous... The color of the pellet just makes it so that if a Pikmin of the same color takes it to the onion, it gets double the sprouts. Its Pikmin 101!

I thought that I was insane for repeatedly going through the Emergence Cave on day 2 of Pikmin 2 to maximize my money and pikmin count. But entering a cave repeatedly, rewinding repeatedly until you got an ultra spicy spray, and repeating that process until you got 228 sprays on day 2 is a new level of crazy. So is pressing A every five minutes to get 1 free raw material. Edit: Also, I appreciated the Bug Fables music. :D

A tiny optimization technique I use sometimes when playing Oatchi is if I need to "charge" something, such as getting Pikmin onto the treasure at 26:22, I simply stand next to it, face away from it, and dismiss It's not a needed technique, of course, but I'm sure it can come in handy sometimes to save a few seconds here and here

The minimum days to save Olimar is 9, to save Louie and beat the final boss is 12 and to 100% the game is 32 or 33. The last one depends on if you think you need to talk to the npc again and recieve the reward for quest for it to count as completed too, as doing that for whichever quest you completed on your 32nd day requires you to start another day. If someone finds an out of bounce glitch that lets you access the Dandori Battle in Sun-Speckled Terrace without a Bridge then all of these can be reduced by one day. I did it myself, and due to Louie's Quest you have two days to complete each area (3 even for the 1st and last area), which makes this challenge actually very doable even for casual players as long as you know what you are doing. It's way easier than completing Olimar's shipwreck tale in the minimum 4 days, that's for sure.

Yeah, the challenge being pretty easy if you have multiple days to do each area is why my focus is completing areas in one day. After that, I'll get the minimum days to 100% the entire game

It does need you to have 30 ice Pikmin and to build the climbing wall

@@TheRedPikminGod That's still good to know. Routing getting the blue onion without building the bridge would save some time as the issue is you usually build the bridge to reach the onion, then send pikmin to dig it up and drag the onion over, just to go back to the area to bring the onion across the river. Plus the wall costs less materials than the bridge to Olimar. DOing the Dandori battle will get Oatchi up there as well so you can get the pumpkin and materials and then move the onion over there and not have to worry about going back for the blue onion later in the day. Still might be a faster route ultimately. Plus then you can have a few pikmin build the bridge while you go off to clean up what's left.

@@poyokki I don't think there's a limit. Even if the game stopped counting at a certain day, I doubt anything bad happens. But I can't say for sure

@@BarelyAlec I think the game stops counting at 99; but yeah, the game just stops counting when it "runs out of days", but continues to let you keep playing without changing the day number.

Me thinking 14 hours and 24days was too long. Can’t imagine grinding out raw material. Pikmin 4 is perfect for dandori and painful challenges! Imagine doing all of pikmin 4 without the charge horn or rush. Woof.

The raw material grinding isn't too bad since it's mostly AFK, but it does get annoying. Charging horn my beloved :(

24 day mite be at most if you are going to 100% the full game with all people save. it take about 15 days just for night.

If you are 100% the whole game, day 2 grind the caves to get to arcadia, day 3 rescue 3 laeflings only, day 4 get the doc, day 567 get 4 cures, day 8 save olimar, 9-21 finish night mission, day 22 find kopites, day23 save nelle, day 24 purple and white onion, day 25 beat louie, 26-31 fit for a feast to clean everything up.

It'd be actually more like day 1 command post, day 2 terrace, day 3 terrace (dash), day 4 arcadia (corgwin), day 5 shores (bernard), day 6-8 night missions, day 9 hideaway (olimar), day 10 hearth (yorke/don), day 11 thicket (nelle), day 12-24 night missions, day 25 sage leaf, day 26 thicket (louie), day 27-32 fit for a feast, day 33 finish with all mission rewards

You only need to go to the terrace twice if you get all the creature sparklium in the caves, and do crackling cauldron 3 times min. Tradeoff is you miss out on early blue onion, and oatchis growth is going to feel like its about a day behind, so he can't swim once you get to the shores. You can still do the castle, for example, but oatchi can just barely be whistled across the puddle after the clam on sub lvl 2. I didn't find any cave I couldn't 100% first try as long as I was persistent.

@@linty90 Oh that's true, although Oatchi can swim by the day you reach the shores as long as you expose him to water on day 2. Also you need to return to the terrace at some point before the hideaway since you need the leafling from the dandori battle.

I plan on mentioning this in part 2! My goal for the challenge is to find minimum days for multiple different objectives. My main objective for this series is to 100% 4 of the 6 areas in 1 day that are possible since I think it's the most fun. But you're right that you could shave off some days by completing areas during the Fit for a Feast questline since it requires backtracking and increasing the day counter anyway

You can't save Olimar in 8 days. You need 9 atleast. 1. Tutorial 2. Rescue Russ in the 1st Area 3. Build the bridge (now possible with Russ) to do the Dandori Battle in Area 1 4. Do the Dandori Battle in Area 2 5. Do the Dandori Battle in Area 3 6. 1st Nightmission (you have no choice in which one you do) 7. 2nd Nightmission (again no choice) 8. 3rd Nightmission (must be one that gives two glow saps) 9. Do the Dandori Battle in Area 4 and save Olimar This also means you need 32 days to do every quest, not just 31. 33 if you think you need to collect the rewards from the quest to count.

17:00 with pikmin 3 i was used to working with multiple captains and used the go here function constantly but for pikmin 4 i have trouble with it for some reason

I wanted to try this but got dissuaded because of the lack of a ‘replay back to x day’ feature like in 3, but I guess the mid-day rewind is the trade-off, either way interested to see how this goes

I think being able to rewind at any time is really useful. Having backup saves is a decent replacement for going back a day but very limited

To get the sparklium amount you need for the entire game within a day, I’d recommend you 100% a cave. By 100%ing a cave, enemies will respawn. You can grind sparklium with these enemies. This doesn’t work when doing a 100% run, of course

Time still moves in caves, it's just at 1/6th speed. So you can't get all the sparklium you need in one day

Man kids will never understand having to walk across the darkness of The Forest Navel and the fear that came along with it then having the Puffy Toadstool pop out and take your pikmin. Hope Pikmin 4 gives those kids something similar.

I thought of a Pizza Tower challenge for you. Try and beat all bosses without arrow keys. (Grab, Jump, Taunt/Parry, Sprint allowed) (Up, Down, Left, Right are banned) and you won’t have any easy movement.

This was a great video, it's kind of sad though that the infinite raw material thing I found wasn't actually infinite like we all thought was a real thing in the planning live stream, that's also great that didn't take as many days to even beat the area which was cool.

Confused by this sequence on Day 2: 1:19 Day 2 Title Card lists Get 40 Ice Pikmin as a day goal 4:11 - "Before moving on we'll enter the cave four more times just to kill the snowy blowhog so we can whistle the 5 ice Pikmin each time for 30 total." When do you get the last 10 ice Pikmin to meet the goal of 40 for the day? Even more confusing is that later on Day 2, at 9:15 you have 50 ice Pikmin! How did that happen?

I got the extra Ice Pikmin when I went back to the Last-Frost Cavern to grind Ultra-Spicy Spray. My goal was 40 Ice Pikmin minimum so I just picked up some extra since it didn't cost much time

You can actually bring any type of Pikmin into the Engulfed Castle but you need to enter through the exit It’s probably not a option. But thought I’d share the fact

You have to make it through the Engulfed Castle to use its exit. Like the cave on the stove, or at the summit of the Sunlit(?) Terrace, you need to go through the cave in the correct direction and exit through the exit to open the path to the exit from the rest of the map - like building a bridge, pulling down a bridge, or pushing down a ramp.

I have a guess as to why waiting for flowers at the Rescue Command Post doesn't work I imagine that blooming is tied to the day timer, and that a Pikmin sprout is programmed to advance one stage every 2 minutes, which is probably achieved by having the sprout record what value the day timer was at when it was planted or grew a flower bud, and when a certain number difference between that time and the current time is reached, it advances to the next sprout stage But at the Rescue Command Post, the day timer is probably frozen at a specific time of the day, so the sprout will never bloom because the start time and end time will never be any different from each other, let alone whatever difference is needed to activate a growth

Ngl, I was kind of hoping based on the video title to see you optimize the minimum days as much as possible by not 100%ing everything along the way. I wanted to see you only save Leafling Bernard and Olimar and only do the first night mission that gives you two glow sap to shave off those precious days from the run. But I guess that's what any% speedruns are for.

I believe that Bernard will always be at least the 3rd leafling, since it actually doesn't matter what cave you get the leaflings out of, just the number you already have

Agent is right. Bernard is always the third purple leafling that gets cured. You also can't do double Lumiknoll Night Expeditions until after doing the 2 tutorial Night Expeditions that only give 1 cure

I wish night missions didn't waste days like who thought of that system? It's literally night expadition why candy you just be asked after the day if you want to do a night mission or if you do it in the hub area make it so that you return to the hub area at night or something so when you're done with the day you can "explore" and then cut to the next morning. I mean I guess it would be annoying especially with how few night missions there are in total but I wish it didn't just waste days from your total

Without context, any form of "not enough" is generally considered a bad thing; at least in our experience. We're pretty sure we used the square brackets correctly - or at least in the same way magazine interviews use them. Currently almost fifteen minutes in and enjoying the video. None of me are going to try doing this - we suck at video games - but some of us do enjoy watching videos on such topics as speedruns and challenges.
