Is there already a video about how to prepare a cat and the house for the arrival of a baby? I mean, a human baby 😁😉 And then, when the baby is there, how to introduce the two. Like, you basically have to baby-proof the cat stuff AND cat-proof the baby stuff when you bring a newborn into a cat household. That would be an interesting video for me! (such a video could even be a collab with someone who knows more about babies? Maybe? Idk 🙈)

Maybe a video about types of bonding like what is healthy bonding for a cat and human verses what can be a type of problematic spoiling. For instance my cat sleeps under the covers with me is that problematic because she is a kitten who shouldn't be doing that or is that just a quirk that isn't setting her up for problems in the future?

"Not been in jail have you?" Yes yes I have and I was even homeless after. I was still able to find care for my kitty and get him back when I was stable. Totally unrelated to today's vid, I am just so proud of me :) Everyone told me he wasn't worth the stress and made me take longer to save money but I didn't care he was my only purpose in life at the time. Now 7 years later I have two others and spoil them all rotten in a nice big house 💞 if any of you are struggling stay in there!!! It CAN and WILL get better!

I always hear stories about how people were in jail or struggling and then in less than a decade they are in a house. Are you in America? How in god's name did you ever get a house? I'll probably _never_ be able to afford one. I'm going to work until I die and all I want is a place to call my own with my cats. My rent is killing me, and when I finally get a raise, everything becomes even more expensive and rent gets raised. I just wanna have a home with my cats man, but every month I have to scrape everything I have and hope I don't get sick or hurt. So tired.

I rescued my own Napoleon Cat in Tupelo Mississippi. He walked into my favorite downtown BBQ and Blues Juke Joint like he owned the place. He hopped onto a barstool in front of the bartender with his forepaws on the rail, and asked to be fed. After everybody laughed about his chutzpah, the bartender gently shooed him outside and shut the door. When I was leaving, this cat was still hanging around outside. When a cat is out adventuring around, they finish the adventure and go home. Apparently this cat did not have a home to go back to. I coaxed him to approach me, which he did. First I let him examine my fingers, and he allowed me to stroke his chin. Then he allowed me to pick him up, when he clung to me with a loud purr. This cat wanted to be adopted. I opened my car door, and he climbed inside. During the 45 minute drive home, he walked around the car's interior, purring loudly. When we got to my house, he got out of the car and walked directly to the door. He quickly proved to be a skilled predator, solving my mouse problem. He would bring live mice, and even a catbird into the house, to amuse himself. Getting them away from him alive was a challenge. He also was ferocious protecting his home from other cats and even dogs. His battlecry was a shrill scream. He was a Napoleon Cat, who quickly established that any territory he was in was his alone. My mother named him Elvis because he came from Tupelo Mississippi, and he was The King!!!

@@Emily-lh6em And that person *will** hurt children. 100% In the clinical field we call it a “red flag” for Sociopathic Personality Disorder. And unlike the majority of mental health diagnoses, there’s no affective treatment for that. Unfortunately, I knew a couple of people who were able to leave their partners for this reason, but they had to put out restraining orders. Stalking isn’t uncommon in this situation. And the abuser (in this above case, you’re being abused when someone hurts your cat) can threaten to hurt or take your pets/children if you leave them. But that makes it more crucial to leave that person. When I was a kid, one of my babysitters would tell my brother to wack living wasp’s nests and our babysitter would kill snakes & torture cats in front of us. He was very abusive- especially towards me (my disabilities were more severe as a child) & neglectful ( leave us unattended in a hot tub & pool by ourselves- my brother was 8 & I was 5). Several years later, he was abusive to his wife & kids. Fortunately, she divorced him. When his kids had to go over for visitations, they would scream & cry. My cousin had to put a restraining order on him. I will never forgive him for all the torture & abuse he did to the cats & other animals. I will never forgive him for all the hurt he’s done to people & animals over the years. There’s nothing he could redeem himself. My wish is that my brother & I were strong enough to tell our parents. We were little & it wasn’t till I was a preteen that I knew this was wrong behaviour. My family is far from perfect, but I have no doubt that they would’ve protected us & not only find a different babysitter, but to warn my cousin about him.

I suppose we could classify my almost 2 year old girls behavior as "Napoleon" for a good while. Her problem stemmed from separation anxiety; she was unable to bond with our 14 year old cat due to that cat preferring humans, so she relied on us (mostly me) for companionship. It was so bad we'd have to leave the TV on at night or if we went out so she wouldn't freak. She's calmed down a lot recently, as we adopted another kitten that quickly bonded with her. She is now constantly playing with her little brother and no longer stresses out when we're not there with her. I like to refer to him as her Emotional Support Sibling.

In fact, he asks to be picked up like a toddler (gets up on his hind legs and holds his paws up), crawls up onto the shoulder (like the "burping" position), then settles on his back in my arms (like feeding position for an infant). It’s been really neat seeing the cats’ personalities start to show and their eventually finding their forever homes, and I’ve used many tips from your videos to understand and communicate with them! A possible future video topic I’d like to see could be about working with shelter cats, and how to necessarily adapt your other cat tips to a shelter setting.

My cat was definitely a Napoleon Cat. We got him from a foster and his backstory before then was so sad. His owner had died and he was one of 13 cats! He was the baby and the husband didn't really know how to take care of cats so all he did was just feed them. My poor kitty grew into his collar and is just now (3 years later) getting that fur around his neck growing back in. Long story short, the rescue agency that picked him and his sibling up marked that he was, in fact, neutered. We adopted him thinking that all he needed was some socialization skills since he was skittish and a bit aggressive. It turns out that we ended up with a serial marker. I was beside myself. I've had cats growing up and I thought I knew what I was doing. I think I watched nearly every video you put out to try and catify the apartment we were living in. I did learn a lot and was able to improve on my previous knowledge. I put out two litter boxes in socially significant spaces, I praised him when he used the boxes, I put out blankets and beds everywhere, we had a play time schedule, and yet he still was marking. We thought it was due to there being cats who were (incorrectly) "allowed" to wander the complex. When we bought our house about a year and half ago, and when we moved in, we treated him like a new cat and slowly introduced him room by room to the house. He did really well until he felt comfortable and began marking again. Fast-forward to April of last year when it was time for him to get his updated shots. Keep in mind that he's been to the vet several times before now but due to Covid, I wasn't able to go in with him. Each time we took him in, they asked "has he been recently neutered? He's got the cheeks." I said, yes, here's the paperwork I was given. It wasn't until April when I was able to go in person and the vet looked at him and said, "Can I run a hormone test? I think he might not be neutered after all." We agreed and his tests came back with double the testosterone that a neutered male cat should have. Needless to say, we got him booked for surgery ASAP (and the adoption agency was kind enough to pay for it!) It turns out that his testicles never dropped so a few incisions later, he was neutered. The change was almost immediate! His temperament changed completely. He went from "I'm annoyed that you're petting me; FEEL MY WRATH," to "I'm annoyed that you're petting me; I'm going to move away." He used to hit really hard, he smacked my sister once and I heard it from across the room. Now, he's much better about expressing his feelings, for lack of a better word. He's cuddly, playful, and will walk up to visitors, and even strangers and allow them to pet him. He's even jumped up on people's laps! (He still won't sit on my lap, but I'm getting over the rejection XD) He no longer bolts under the bed (except when the vacuum is out) and he's the life of the party. Whenever we have company over, he'll swagger into the room to make sure all is in order and then swagger back out. Or he'll flop in the middle of the floor looking for pets. My Napoleon Cat is now a Mojito cat and I couldn't be happier!! I know that was a long story, but I have to say, thank you for these videos and this work you are doing. With out this, I might have given up on him. I'm so grateful that just getting him neutered was able to correct the marking problem completely. He still has blankets/bedding in every room and he rules the roost now. Thank you, thank you, thank you for all of these wonderful resources.

Unfortunately this behavior is probably more prevalent in adult cats that are adopted from shelters. The most common reason that people relinquish their cats is due to poor litter box habits. That's why I would be unlikely to adopt an older cat. Plus I like to clicker train my cats and that is easier to do if you start young. I had a Napoleon, I think. I bottle raised him from about 2 weeks old. The Vet said he had the worst case of alpha male syndrome she had ever seen (cats only practice of +20 years). The other 4 cats lived in fear and abject terror of him, he was pretty aggressive to me at times too. He ate socks, towels, sweaters, what ever was chewy, knocked pictures off the water, shredded drapes, broke into the refrigerator on several occasions and helped himself - never did mark turf but only got his feet in the litter box. 22lbs of demonic presence. He lived to be 19 1/2 bad to the end, life is very dull and quiet without him.

I have to close all the blinds at night so he doesn't see them. It got bad last year when a cat appeared in the door window. He went crazy, screaming his head off, and he had an agression transfer towards his little sister, who's already a wallflower. She was so terrified that I had to reintroduce them, lol! We have to have four litter boxes in a small 2 bedroom apartment and it's taken two and a half years for him to be able to sleep within a foot of the other cat. Fortunately, the other cat is a total mojito and is light and agile, so she lives on the upper layer of the apartment and he lives on the floor and low furniture. Both of them happily greet visitors, though, and they do play together. He's getting calmer as he matures.

She is very possessive of me (mom) and territorial of her bed and belongings, even though she has 3 spots specifically to her including vertical space. She's been with me at 8weeks old. She is now 7 years old, and her personality is still the same. Vet says she's good and healthy. She's always needed more stimuli and playtime compared to her siblings. She loves her outdoor walks.

My Napoleon cat was a stray who was semi feral. He’s an adult male, was not fixed and never left the back door after trusting us. Well, turns out, he needed psych meds. He’s on Prozac for over grooming to the point his inner legs and stomach were bare! He was also aggressive with my resident wallflower female, even after neutering. The Prozac works, but he still pushes her buttons. She’s learned to turn around when he’s chasing and he skids to a stop and falls over on his side. It’s play. She doesn’t really know that, but if that was true aggression, fur would fly

Its amazing too to see that will work as play. A friend of mine has a senior cat who demanded mousy videos on her secondary computer monitor by bonking it against the wall. My friend limited videos because she didnt want her to become fixated on that stimulus. It's taken a while to get her to play with anything else. She would just bonk the monitor for months. But finally my friend found a Buffalo hide string marketed as a cat toy and now Haiku(the mature kitty) is FIXATED on that rather than the mousy videos. She will go and Bonk the box where the hide string is kept instead of the monitor when she wants to play!

My calico does all the good stuff when I come home - runs over, headbutts, trills and does her figure 8s. She gets a lot of play attention too (high energy). Her problem is handling, which I have to do when she gets into things or runs outside. If I pick her up the way I would any other cat, one hand supporting the chest and the other supporting her feet, she turns into a bear trap of teeth and nails. She DIGS IN too. Petting her also begets bites. She'll be on my lap, purring, rubbing her face into my head and then suddenly "chomp". I try to watch her signals for a sign to stop but everything about her body language says "pet me". That all being said she's my best friend and I love her to pieces.

This reminds me of the first time Elvis my "Napoleon Cat" saw snow. Being from Tupelo Mississippi, he had gone through his first few years without experiencing real snowfall. When I brought him to Northeast Ohio, he had many new adventures, but snow brought out something else in him. He was angry at the snow, and at me for bringing him to this accursed place of cold, wet, white misery. He stared out the window, with his tail whipping around in fury. I tried to comfort him with a pet, only to have him turn to bite my hand. His entire world had been transformed into a freezing white Hellscape, and I was somehow to blame. After a few days of fuming, he mustered the courage to go outside and explore what had happened to the wonderful yard that was his paradise. His first few steps into the snow, he responded by shaking the snow off of each leg, disgustedly. Within a few days, he adapted to the snow, with the "cheerful" demeanor of a Pallas Cat. (Watch a Pallas Cat video, and you will understand.) This was his turf, and he was going to rule it, regardless of the weather.

We play with our kitties often and they do this adorable thing where they catch and kill “it” (one cat loves feathers on a stick and strong and the other this soft thing on a stick and string ) and then both will take it away because they “killed it” then bring it back to play again. We will. Often play with them with one in each hand so they can each catch their favorite rinse and repeat. Our third cat doesn’t like the stick toy much but she is genuinely smart enough to know how the laser pointer works she will drop it at your feet like an offering of a dead mouse bird etc and Mew until you pick it up and play with her with it. And if you stop and she’s not done… she’ll staid at you like “um I was having fun why did you make it go away”

Hi Jackson, my Napoleon child was declawed and ultimately returned to the shelter--I suspect because of his Napoleon tendencies--before I was lucky enough to meet him and bring him home with me. Thank you for all the good work you do, and especially thank you for speaking up for the Napoleon cats. You also mentioned ideas for videos, and here's something I've been wondering about: When Bubba (my cat) watches birds and squirrels, he is so moved by a savage hungry energy, and it makes him soooo happy! While I think many cat desires are at least kind of humanly relatable (hunger, sex drive, etc), this feeling of hunting seems very different. And so interesting! In other words, what do you think it is like to be a cat watching a chickadee???

Mine was declawed and left outside when they moved and she is small. But wait there’s more. Got her from shelter she starts really digging being petted then I’m in South Park episode she scream and butt in air . I call shelter they can hear over phone . Yep In heat but no way .. she was declawed and chart noted belly scar but nope … declawed a 4lb kitty left her out when move and she was in heat that’s why neighbors heard her yelling.. 😢

My cat Lucy isn’t a Napoleon per say, but she likes to ambush my other cat, Sylvie. She frequently stalks Sylvie when she’s using the litter box and pounces as soon as Sylvie puts a toe out of it. Sylvie was here first, and Lucy is the new addition as of 3 months ago. They coexist pretty well, but Lucy is somewhat of a troublemaker. She frequently chases Sylvie away from her food dish. This is so frustrating 🤦🏼‍♀️ Yesterday, she had jumped on top of the gecko tank and fell through it (most likely hunting the geckos). I love Lucy to death, but she’s destroying parts of my house and bullying Sylvie. I play with her as much as possible, but it never seems to be enough. *sigh*

When I adopted my older cat she was very uncertain about my apartment. Folks would walk by the door and scare her and their animals would sniff at the door. So she peed on the floor there. I ended up fixing it by putting a scratch pad right by the door so she can go and scratch and mark this place as hers. Havent had any more peeing. She was also obsessed with getting into my batheroom so I put a scratch pad in there. Now she just goes in, checks out whats going on, marks the pad with her claws and wanders off completely comfortable.

Couldn't have come at a better time. Our Lugosi is a Napoleon cat! We're doing all of the things in this video to hopefully make him feel more secure (including medication). So, I hope that with time, he will grow out of this phase. We know why he is like this too. He came to us from a foster home that had 20+ cats and we witnessed bullying for resources firsthand when we met him in the house. Poor kitty 😐

My cat Ginger Beans greets people at the door and he guides them to a seat so he can cuddle with them and he will find a special toy for them and drop it in their lap. He asks what's inside everyone's pockets and purses. 😂 He loves playing for an hour once a day and before bedtime. I run him around the apartment and he brings his toys out of his toy box and tosses them around until he's done. I just cheer him on and give him treats afterwards. He doesn't care about playing with someone else he likes playing on his own and cuddle and share his toys. He does have a hoarding issue with anything that looks like a pencil or pen and paintbrushes. I put those things away so he can't steal them and hide them. Most of his toys are stuffed animals because they are his favorite. He cuddles with them and licks them as if they are family. He put them on the couch in one side so if you move them they will end up back on the couch. I call him a butt hugger because he likes to snuggle up to my butt when I am laying on the couch. He will slightly push my body to tell me how to lay so he can have his spot. I love him so much. He's very bonded with me and I am very honored to have him. ❤😊

Our ginger boy Kaos gets insecure sometimes, and his way of dealing with it is to pee on our stuff… so far we have thrown out four or five laundry hampers and numerous shopping bags, and my carry on suitcase has had two deep cleans using enzyme based detergent in the bathtub… we plug in the Feliway at various locations inside the house and enclosed the backyard to prevent roaming cats from coming close, and still the ginger ninja peed on my work laptop just last week… lucky for me it’s not the laptop that I use daily and the machine wasn’t damaged, but still…

Thanks so much for this video, Jackson! You've helped me to better understand what's going on with our kitty: We have a late in life Napolean Cat, an Itty bitty 15yr old Calico. We adopted her from our Vet 10yrs ago - she was the Doc's late Mom's cat. We only know she was rescued from a barn as a youngster & she was kinda stand-offish until recently. Lately we've had some of the triggers you mention, especially new cats + family stress/illness. Our 2 male Mojito Cats, TWICE her size, have gotten some real beat downs from our Napolean Girl! She's jealous of them, even though she's lived peacefully with them for 10+ years. She's now very clingy with us too. She has CRF & gets the best Vet care, so I thought either I'm doing something wrong or she's a bit senile. She's outlived all of our expectations, and we feel blessed that she's still with us regardless of her purr-sonality changes. Now we know how to help her feel better in her Golden Years. 🧡🤍🖤

I had 3 kittens dropped off on me and i had no choice but to care for them. Because i love cats lol. However we live in an rv and i only have the space for one litterbox and they all share a food and a water dish. We play and they have lots of toys all around they play with. Plenty of spaces for them to climb up on stuff and window space too. In the rv a lazer pointer really kills it for tiring out the kitties. All three of them are very happy and lovey. If anyone comes over theyre all rubbing up on them. I like seeing these videos because i know that even if its not an optimal cat space, my cats feel like were a pride of cats together and this is our home we share. ❤

We had a Napoleon cat. 2 years of trying everything. Medications , an insane amount of boxes, toys, trees, beds, scratchers. .. nothing helped. We made the difficult choice to rehome him to a single cat home. All of his behavior stopped. He's super sweet and happy now. We got another kitten shortly after and she's a mojito. At my parents they have a mojito already, super confident and sweet. They just got a new one though from a rough situation that is very fearful, just hides. The mojito is trying to get her confidence up though. 😊

OMG THANK YOU. I recently adopted a Napoleon and a Mojito lol, and the chill cat is also much bigger, so the lil boss man is acting out a lot. I noticed it especially happens around sleeping spots where he'll attack her if she is in a spot he considers 'his'. The plan is to clear more space so I can put down an elaborate cat tree and he'll have more spots to make his.

My little cat is a snuggle bunny. She deals with the enemies without in good way. My neighbor has cats and the way our apartments are set up the front doors face each other. So when their cats go out she can hear them and smell them. This does make her a bit anxious she wants to get outside and chase them away. However she is confident enough in her own territory that she has never felt the need to over own our living room. She has never peed on the door or floor around it. She has scratched the carpet trying to get out. Usually after a few minutes I can distract her with play or food, and her world calms down again.

Separating the food did so much. One unexpected development is that this former Napoleonic rescue is no longer inhaling all the food he sees and now prefers 2 to 3 wet food meals a day. He is becoming his slimmer self 😻 But he owns the cat tree. No matter, we have a cat bed in the window, upstairs, on the couch, and scratching posts everywhere. Both cats are reasonably happy.

I'm starting to re-think our cat Shadow. He was one of a litter of three that we adopted with their mom from the wood pile out back. Shadow was a big, muscular, short-haired, solid black beast; the very definition of "house panther". He was okay with humans, but he was a bully to other cats; except his mom, Gabby; they were so bonded that when he died she followed a month later. It was very sad. It never occurred to any of us that he may have felt insecure. Thanks for that.

I know he is food obsessive because he was very thin when we met. Think he might have eaten from kids plates and she thought a bowl of food was for everyone. Didn’t realise his other behaviours was anxiety so will work on that. He also scatters when visitors arrive but once he gets to know that they give pats he is fine with that person.

Thank you for the video Jackson! I’ve been doing a lot of research in the past months to understand what to do with my neutered male cat that started spraying all over the house one year later after the surgery. We went to the vet and he is perfectly healthy but he started tormenting me on a daily basis spraying everywhere on the walls and couch. It’s my fault, I brought in for 2 days a foster cat and it triggered this. This was 7 months ago and now Achilles expresses all his frustration through spraying. I feel so helpless somethimes that I sobb. Nothing seems to work to go back to not spraying so I am doing everything I can to keep him entertained. I am not successful. He’s 2.5 years old, the most lovable adorable being I’ve seen but the most difficult character too. Sometimes I almost think he is bipolar. I love him so much tough, I am working to make peace that we will live like this forever 😂

Your videos are so important! So many people think their cat it trying to get back at them for something by peeing outside the litter box, since the cat knows fully well it's not supposed to, so it must be with ill intent towards the owner! Thank you for being such a vocal advocate for the kitties! My cat was a Mojito type, and so were most other cats I knew. All these Mojitos were indoor/outdoor cats, I believe it does a lot for their Mojo. And if you live in a safe neighborhood, it's perfectly fine to let them outside, if they desire so.

It freaks out people when she greets them at the door and acts like they are a long lost friend, compared to other people's cats who greet someone and then attack while purring. My one and only baby boy, his name is Napoleon (after my fav movie Napoleon Dynamite) and I think I may have jinxed him and myself with giving him that name😅 he is the most mischievous cat I've ever met. He eats anything he gets his paws on, chews EVERYTHING, opens up cabinets, digs in the trash, licks pots and pans after cooking, and looks for leftovers in the sink after we wash dishes. I've had to put baby locks on my cabinets and buy a fancy trash can to make sure he doesn't dig in there. We can't even eat ANYTHING with him around bc he will steal your food and be extremely aggressive about it !!! I've taken him to the vet to run tests to make sure he isn't acting up due to any illness- thankfully they found nothing, but Im still left wondering why he acts up so much !!! He is an extremely spoiled only child, and I play with him as much as I possibly can but I've been thinking about getting him a sibling to keep him more company while im at wok or school, but now im nervous that he will be an even more Napoleon cat🥲

He relentlessly bullied her, relentlessly feared and tried to bully our indoor-outdoor rescue male (much, MUCH bigger and chill as all day). When he had to board at at another home for 2 months, while I got a new place, he refused to play with any of the other cats and hid out all day, tried to snuggle the humans all night. Our little rescue wallflower has gotten way more confident since playing with him every day, he was 4 months when we got him. It got him to come out of hiding. We have another kitty, a tortie who is 6 months older than him and she stalked him all the time while we were socializing them. He wasnt afraid, he wanted to play with her so badly. She'd chase him all over the house but it was never to harm him. There were and still are moments of poofy tails. We wondered if they could ever be in a room next to each other normally and then one day it happened. She still chases him but he chases her just as much. Our tortie is the first cat i have known who isnt afraid of the vacuum. She is right there. Usually in the way, lol. One of her favorite play things is the brown paper from the chewy box. She lays on it, under it, runs across the room to jump on it but she is "territorial" with her paper. Her "brother" isnt allowed on it. They are so much fun to watch interact. ❤🐈‍⬛🐈
