The dead can definitely can communicate with the living through dreams, IMO.

Totally agree! They come to me through dreams 😊 and I find it easier for me to receive messages from them when I sleep rather than just meditating and doing automatic writing 😊

Well done Scarlett. You bring solid syncretism to the Pagan table, drawing from a multi-cultural and historical perspective. I am now a patron and I look forward to the Discord discourse. And, I can assure you, from my perspective of 65 years on the planet, that mean people do indeed suck.Fragile egos crushed by unrequited envy and admiration. Pay them no heed.Just "pity the fools", as the muscular man with the mohawk used to say.

As for Celtic cosmology: There is an excerpt in the stories of Alexander of an envoy of Celtic tribal leaders who came to congratulate Alexander on becoming king of Macedonia. When asked why the Celts did not fear death they were recorded as saying "we only fear the sky falling". Suggesting perhaps that the Celt worldview was tied to the continuance of the cycle of the universe.

Thanks for doing these. I’m sure it helps many of us not feel like we are the only ones who aren’t Christian, Muslims, Jews. Those of us that have never expressed these beliefs in our everyday lives really benefit for your videos

The Graeco-Roman afterlife was what most people today believe to be the Christian afterlife. After death you crossed the Styx into the underworld, where you were judged by the three judges Aeacus, Rhadamanthus and Minos. According to your actions in life you went either into Tartarus (Hell), the Asphodelium (limbo, where most people went) or Elysium (Heaven). There were also Manes (ghosts) who could return into the world of the living, if they had unfinished business. This would be as Lemures, if they had to punish someone, or Lares, if they had to protect someone or something. The actual Christian belief is that the dead remain dead until the glory of God comes to Earth. Then the dead get resurrected in the flesh and are judged by God. If they are found worthy, they keep living on a transformed Earth as immortal human beings. This may sound weird, but this is the original Christian belief and perpetuated in the Nicene Creed. Over time however most Christians returned to the Graeco-Roman beliefs about the afterlife. (Because most Christians were Romans.) Now they believe just like the Romans before that the soul goes immediately into the afterlife, instead of remaining dead in the grave until the Day of Judgement, as the original Christian belief was. Like the ancient Romans they believe today that they persist in the afterlife as souls, not as physical bodies, as the Christians originally believed. So most Christians today are actual Roman pagans, when it comes to the afterlife. The original Christian beliefs went extinct, except for some fringe sects of Protestantism that returned to the original Christian beliefs, e.g. Jehovah's Witnesses.

Yes, another thing I would Like to say is that A lot of People See Sin as like For Example : The Sexually Immortal = Pure Love and Sex that is Sacred and We Christians Put it down NOOO THATS NOT ITT DONT Why would People Assume we Christian Dont like something like Sex? When we Talk about Sex we Call out the Abuse that Sex has and Many Other sins because they are Bad! We aren’t talking about the Goodness! We Call Out the Bad and You should Call out the Bad! We aren’t putting anything in the Negative Light! Who saids Light is Negative? We’re Calling out Darkness So It can Be Light and Goodness! We Love Humans and Want people To be hear For the new Earth! It’s Gonna Be wonderful! Thank you for reading! ☺️

Fields of Asphodel isn't really limbo. It's just the average afterlife for the average person who wasn't really a very good person or great hero but wasn't actually evil either. And Tartarus was a place of punishment - it wasn't eternal punishment, so not exactly hell, and the punishment fit the crime.
@mavrospanayiotis
@mavrospanayiotis 2 года назад
It's peculiar that Tartarus is pointed out as place of punishment but no actual historical figure is put there, just mythical ones charged with terrible crimes mainly against the gods and their trust for humanity. So i wouldn't identify Tartarus as just an Hell in some christian sense...

I like to think the dead can still communicate with the living. I totally see my grandmother's old school *angst* coming out in my niece despite them never meeting. Also I remember learning about Maat in my basic humanities courses. I learned that her name is amaat/maat and she always wore a feather pointing straight up and that feather shouldn't lean or waver at any altars or else it'll be an ominous and disastrous moment

I don’t think Tartarus was an epithet of Hades but more the name for a realm in the Underworld. I might be wrong but I’m pretty sure it is a place of typical dark underworld , suffering type dynamics. I believe some of the older more primal creatures of Greek mythology were cast their like the oldest children of Gai that were monstrous, maybe even the Titans. I believe it was a realm of the underworld that was meant to be a punishment . I’m not educated enough on the underworld realms but this is the way I have interpreted the retellings I have read.

Oh man, I would LOVE if you did an episode on animism and paganism. This is a subject I'm really fascinated with. Animism has always made the most sense to me. Hinduism and Shintoism are so intriguing-I would love to see a discussion on comparisons and connections to our modern view of paganism and European paganism. By the way, this episode was great! I'm loving the topics you choose.

A wonderful happy hour, Scarlet! I do like your idea of a universal afterlife; and your thoughts on reincarnation too. I continue to draw lots of inspiration from pagan mythologies and belief systems even though I don't identify as pagan. Not all Christians believe in an exclusive heaven. The original apostles, especially Paul, taught that all people are eventually brought into heaven, regardless of beliefs.

Hi scarlet! I would suggest watching Sanctum of the Crafts series on the history of Samhain, she goes into depth about the incorporation of ancestors/spirits/the fae into the holiday in ancient practices, before Wicca :) I like their channel because they will share their sources and are very research heavy, unlike a lot of other information which is more word of mouth

The way I heard it was that Valhalla depends on how much Honor you had in Life, Folkvagner depended on how much Virtue you had in Life and if you had niether you Helheim plus your soul can loose Honor or Virtue and be kicked out Valhalla, Folkvagner, or Helhiem

It has in the god of war game where he is in the elysian fields. From a norse pagan outlook there is a debate of vahalla and freyas fields. From what I've read when one dies warrior or not the valkyries carry the fallen and they are taken to hell where they are deemed if they've worthy of the halls of Valhalla. Those who weren't were to reside in hel.

I think ancestry gets even trickier when you factor in slavery and colonialism. My husband is half Jamaican and half southern Black, but what does that mean? His roots go from Africa to Germany, Ireland to Cherokee, China to England. The only thing we don't think he is is Pacific Islander. ancestry is perhaps a start for some people, but I believe affinity, a "call" to steal a word from Christianity, is more important.

I respectfully disagree about psychics 💕 and isnt one of the greatest things about paganism, is creating a greater relationship with the gods? I would argue that mediumship and a lot of the psychic abilities is about creating a relationship with oneself, dieties, spirits, and ancestry. As well as the celtic ways, creating a big relationship with nature through the Claire's is psychic. Love you though you're my favorite 💕 just sharing my thoughts incase someone else feels the same way.
