Today we're going to review some of the most commonly misunderstood rules of the game of racquetball. Let's start with one of the most important aspects of the game, the Receiving Line.
As a Receiver (the person returning the serve) you may not cross the dotted line (called the Receiving Line) until the Server's ball has crossed the plane in the air OR the ball has bounced inside this line. In either of those cases, you can step forward into the area to hit it.
If, for some reason you come into this area too soon with your racquet or with yourself stepping in, play automatically stops and it's a point for the Server. The reason for this penalty is because if you cross this line, you can endanger the Server by hitting them with the ball or the racquet.
The area between the dotted line and the Short Line is called "The Safety Zone" and it's a heavy price to pay if you cross this line too early. This rule is in place to protect the Server so take it seriously.
