The object is a rock culvert built by Chinese laborers for a railroad grade through San Rafael. The railroad grade was never completed.

The rock tunnel is a box drain or culvert to carry water under the road which has either washed away or was never built

I love the drone footage, totally awesome! I need to get one. One thing I really like is that when you guys camp you clean up the area and leave it better than when you found it, but... You respect a older camp site that's been around for who knows how many years, one that has old cans, porcelain etc and leave it for posterity. Very cool! Good judgement call on your part.

I have been off-roading, car camping, and a 4x4 enthusiast for as long as I can remember. Silver is one of the reasons I purchased a 4 runner. Kevin, you and your amazing wife and beautiful daughter are the main reason I got into "Overlanding". Or at least upped my game a bit. Great episode as always.

They used Chinese laborers years ago when they were going to put the railroad in. It was never followed through because a different route was chosen. So those are the drainage wash tunnels that were going to be under the railroad.

Same “silver” rig as you with a regular size travel trailer- but the night I went camping with my son and we slept in the back of the 4Runner was one of my favorite memories. After tents and trailers there’s something about being in the 4Runner that felt so cozy. I love my travel trailer but it’s a lot of effort to tow and set up/ break down. It’s not an off-road one so it’s basically the portable tiny house for our kids and animals. That’s why there was just something so freeing about the night in the back of my 4Runner. Made me realize the basic necessities and a heart filled with adventures is really all I need sometimes. Thanks for creating such inspiring content! I look at my ‘silver’ and just dream about all those mods and upgrades one day. She’s brand new, so I believe I’ll use all the TRD stock stuff she came with last year and little by little add. Never knew I would be a full blown Toyota girl but I’m a die hard came from a wrangler but this truck will survive an apocalypse so it’s also my bug out vehicle with the current status of the world lol. Please keep making such joyful road trip videos reminds me this stuff is still possible and I need to plan something soon. Safe travels

I see from your past episode you have a battery powered chain saw which was used in this episode. Then I see you with a manual crank coffee grinder. Hmm, why not use a battery powered drill with an attachment on the coffee grinder. Cheers, great video.

Love the videos!! Liked using the rock to hold down the tie out stake. I've found that I can run a 8in lag bolt with a 3/4in washer on into the dirt, sand, mud,ect. with my Dewalt impact. Works great and backs right out when done.:)

I have seen poor Chris eat some really bad cookin, some guys just cant cook. I always do all of the camp cookin here and most of the time all of the cooking at home.
