This is my configuration on my doio kb16: Row 1 for screenshot functions: Screenshot - Area screenshot - NA - NA Row 2 for browser functions: Back - Reload - New tab - Close tab Row 3 for mac desktop manager: Previous desktop - Mission control - Application windows - Next desktop Row 4 for arrow keys: Left - Down - Up - Right (yes, that's vim) I don't aim for productivity, I just want my left hand to work more and my right hand don't have to away from mouse too many times =))
Just received mine yesterday 9/7 after ordering Aug 18th. I'm using mine for Premiere Pro hotkeys. Super handy. The depth this offers with multiple layers will take a long time to get used to, but for now it's really nice to skip to next edit points, go to the effects window, scrub the playhead, undo/redo, etc. Anyone else using a macropad for editing? Would love some extra tips.
How did you configure the knob to scrub the playhead in Premiere? I'd love to use it for that but I don't really know what keybinds to set it to in VIA...
nice video! I've liked using my macropad as a numpad and media controller for musicbee (pause, play, volume control separately for the musicbee and the computer). I also use it to run some custom strings that I use often (git commands, current date and time, etc ).
Just wanted to let you know, the official WhatGeek RU-vid channel is using some of your footage in their video about this with the watermarks and stuff cropped out. Considering that their support has been abysmal, please do something about this.
WhatGeek provided this unit for review a LONG time ago and they are permitted to use my video content. As for their customer service: I cannot comment on that. I no longer work directly with them.
I didn't decide between Elgato Stream Deck +, Audio Mixer, just streamer desk or Megalodon Triple Knob Macro Pad. I'm thinking to buy the nob Controller too to make a Combo. Which one you will choose base in your experience?
I will always recommend a Stream Deck for someone looking to stream. These can handle some functionality but Elgato products just interface so much more easily.
My only complaint about this device is that you can’t map a “double click” to one of the buttons. It only allows one click command. It really helps when I need to quickly highlight to copy a text as there my work involves a lot of clicking.
Did you try scripting in 2 singular clicks with minimal wait time between them? Should work. Who knows, though. I never could get mine to run half the scripts I wanted to so I ended up shelving it. Still a great unit but not for my specific use case.
I'm not experienced with mapping keys but I usually can figure stuff out with some research, but I couldn't get anything to work or save on mine beyond what the keys came as. And as I'm combing through looking for more info to figure it out, I keep seeing others say they shelved it or sold it too. :( I'm beginning to think I might have to do the same. I've got negative productivity out of it because all the time has been spent trying to configure it to no avail. It sucks because the device feels good and looks good and should be a great productivity tool but the software thus far is a hindrance.
I think for my uses the KB30-01 would be a better fit. I'd use it as a standard numpad and nav cluster, but have a layer set up for macros. I don't use macros on a daily basis, but maybe I could think of some that would increase my productivity.
Hello, thank you for your review! I have a question. Does your acrylic bottom feel hollow? Specially if you knock on it or run your fingers on the surface? Top feels solid on mine, but the bottom feels so empty and I want to know if this is normal for everyone.
Hey PuNkShoO, have you tried to use VIA lately? I am trying to remap my DOIO macropad, but for some reason VIA won't recognize the json file anymore. I use mine for streaming and editing and was trying to remap my macropad for obs, but sadly ran into this issue. Is there any way you can help? Thanks
Best to join the VIA Disocrd server and ask the community for help. VIA and QMK are ever-changing animals so its bound to crop up once in a while where you need assistance from their community of experts.
Hi! Would you know how big the memory is whenever you're saving macros through VIA? The reason I'm asking is that my Keychron only has 128K of memory (visible through VIA too) which is also a lot, but still isn't enough for the amount of tasks per macro I have. Thanks in advance!
I do not know off the top of My head, but I would assume that it's the same since most of these boards and macro pads use similar microprocessors. If you want something of larger memory, you'll need to find something that uses an rp2040.
I edit in DaVinci and Reaper a lot ... been looking for somehtign to streamline my editing. This pad is pretty high on my list because the LoopDeckCT, while being EXACTLY what I want, is just WAY out of my price range. LOL
Hey. When you programme this, do the inputs stay assigned to the pad if you were to take it to another pc without the software installed? I could really do with something similar for work but cannot install software on a business device. Thanks

To be 100% transparent, I never did proceed any further with this macropad. In order to program good macros in VIA/QMK you need to actually code the firmware and recompile it. Doing simple multi-key presses and things of that like are easily done in VIA but if you want any sort of capable macro like you'd find in something like Logitech or Corsair software it seems that VIA/VIAL are just not quite there yet. Something as simply actuating a looping macro and deactivating it requires a Boolean script to be added to the firmware and hard coded into a keybind. It was more than I was willing to put time into.
Just got this pad, I've been having an issue with VIA. When I try to import the JSON file, it says "SyntaxError: Unexpected token □ in JSON at position 0"
Is it possible to assign macros to the knob (like double mouse wheel up) ? I have the dual layer knob one and if I assign a macro (M0, M1 etc) I'll just get single letter like ooooooooooooo when I turn the dial. The only way to use some sort of macros with the knobs is to use "ANY"-key on the special tab but that doesn't allow "double mouse scroll" kind of macros.
I am sure if you modified the QMK firmware to create an advanced macro you could accomplish something like this. However, with the current firmware and macro set it seems like the functionality of the encoder "turns" is limited to a smaller feature set. I haven't personally tried something as extensive as this but so far I have only been able to get simple key combo keypresses to work with the turn whereas the press behaves like any other keypress when macro is applied.
@@punkshoo Thanks for the reply and insight 😃 . I could try to assign my wheel to f13-f19 keys and use AHK to make some my own macros. That could work too. I really like the build quality of my Megalodon Macro Pad - Dual Layer Knob but the only downside is the VIA-software. It's ok and there are work arounds but it's not really that easy to use (when compared to something like elgato's macropad softwares)
100% on all fronts. This would definitely benefit from AHK scripting in a productivity environment for sure. Hopefully we'll see VIA continue to evolve or someone putting out software that integrates with VIA capable devices but also uses APIs to interface directly with software to help make programming these things easier. Admittedly, I've found VIA macro pads to be a bit frustrating if you aren't willing to use AHK or do extensive firmware coding to get the idea macro performance out of them. For normal users who just want to do basic macros they are great but we're just shy of these being amazing. Thanks for your insights as well!
It will work with basic USB drivers but I dont know about as a MIDI controller. Once you program macros and functionality using VIA it can send keypresses however you like but not sure how it will interface with audio.
That's not really how QMK/VIA works. Its going to depend on what you're trying to do with the macro. If you're simply asking how many simultaneous keystrokes you can send in a single instance then I have no idea. I imagine hundreds, if not thousands. If you're looking for a series of keypress inputs with breaks in between and whatnot then that will depend on the overall macro's functionality.
@@punkshoo yeah I did exactly all that. It's not detected by via. I downloaded the json, extracted and loaded into via, unplugged replug the doio kb16, nothing shows up. The doio itself does light up. Maybe I got mailed a bad one
