What is Tinking and Frogging? And how are they related to knitting and crochet? Ever made a big booboo with your knitting or crochet project and want to fix it? Tinking or frogging, respectively, might be the answer! Fiberific's resident tinker/frogger, Chantelle Hills, walks you through some fascinating yarncraft etymology before demonstrating just how tinking can save your WIP from unsightly blemishes.

Oh my gosh I never knew the difference!!!!! THank you Chantelle! I tend to do more tinking than frogging. But one time I really unknowningly challenged myself and decided to frog a few rows of lace knitting...........Eek..

I've become an expert tinker, I can't leave mistakes. But if I really can't fix it I will frog it and start again and again and again lol.

Tink is a perfect word and I'm a tink master! I am an OCD hyper-perfectionist about my work. I always use stitch markers.I cannot bear to see a mistake. As a result I am very slow at completing projects because I am constantly counting and recounting stitches.

I have been tinking for years but never called it that - I always called it "unknitting." I love the idea of tink being knit backwards!! I shall use this term from now on! Your demo was brilliant - so clearly explained - this is what I always do. As for frogging, it's rare that I do that (love the derivation of that term too lol!) because I'm a bit of a control freak, and ribbit ribbit is a bit too uncontrolled for me and terrifies me!! Nice to see you using what look like the Chiagoo interchangeable needles - just ordered some of these and can't wait for them to arrive.

Recommend always adding a life line if you’re going to frog it!

I am doing a both sides I-cord edge on a knit piece and can't frog without making a mess of the I-cord when I frog, tinking instead, as I am experimenting working the design as I go, (not enough experience of I-cord edges so dread dropping stitches on the edge). Living with some mistakes, may just fake it when finished, with embroidered over stitches 🤔 if the areas are not too visible with imperfect fogged bits.

Is there anything about tinking you'd like to see/learn about that might help you?
