There is old saying: Many people do what they like to do, what they can do, or what they must do. Just few of them do what they are supposed to do. Your missing piece are those people who do what they are supposed to do.
I Think the world needs to rethink education. Information is already there for all of us for free through internet, so I think Education should be focused in empowering thinking instead of memorizing information.
I absolutely agree. Current education framework is not designed for the future world. I'm investigating options for my kid. Ciaoooooo from the ITALIAN FOOD BOSS💪💪🇮🇹🇮🇹
He can open an account for child support and neglect his kids. That's the real way to trick the system and blame it all on your kids later on. All love. Independent ♥
First I was like 'I will NOT watch a 45 min long Video, let's just skip through it' and here I am, watching 45 minutes video and loving every Minute of it.
actually older guys could take your class. There are loads people that are are old and never figured out their reason for being. Redesigning your life can happen any stage in your life. Hope you guys read this.
Hell yeah ... I'm 48 and this is useful, fun fact is I was watching this to share with my daughter who has started studying to become ... a designer. And of course she needs to make choices and narrow down for her futur studies. This video adresses the issues perfectly .. so thank you(s).
Naw no way that might actually be helpful. Schools lower the passing line so that they have a higher graduation output. Peoyin power don't want to breed critical thinkers. Just work at a fast food place for the rest of your life instead of working there as a stepping stone. That, in my opinion, is what those jobs should be for. A stepping stone towards other careers.
The word difference is: Profession - a service you offer to the market to help you make a living Vocation - a calling or an occupation which requires great dedication and has a greater purpose
I recently talked my son OUT of being a mechanical engineer. He has the aptitude but no passion for it. He was only doing it because he felt that it was safe. His older brother is finishing up a mechanical engineering degree but he is passionate about it. I am guiding him to zero in on what he can get excited about and this video will be great for him. Thanks!
I have a master's degree in mechanical engineering but i pretty much hate every thing about working in this occupational field. Talking him out of it when he has no passion for it is the right thing to do. Well done.
I don't know where you're at, but I've spent about 5 years trying to figure myself out. I wouldn't call it wasted time, it's time I needed to make big decisions and change as a person. If you're realizing you need or want a change, then you've been doing something right! Many people stay lost forever. Pursue your goals, it's never too late as long as you're breathing.
Ahmed, it's good that you know where you problem is from which is indecision. It's time to deal decisively with it. Focus on the identity you want to create for yourself. Who are you or who do you want to be known as or what do you want to be known for. I think you also need to do this ikigai exercise and then summon the will power to follow one path. The quicker you fail in one thing, the quicker you get going with the next thing until you pick the best for you. Also try to get an accountability partner. Connect with people who are already succeeding and doing exploits so you can be challenged to choose a path. I wish you well
There's no such thing as being behind in life. We all have our own paths, find a way to live that's fulfilling, no matter if it takes you ten more years. Better than being "ahead" but going in the wrong direction.
you can google Ikigai and find lots of good and free resource about this topic. Furthermore Ikigai is only one way to go about it. Usually people will put information online for advertising purposes. The more people know you, the more people you can help. Having said that, Chris really seems good at his Ikigai : )
This is something that needs to be taught in schools, colleges and universities. I wish someone got me thinking like this 20 years ago. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
The Futur i think you are spot on with the changes coming about too. People are taking responsibility for their own educations now and so that is a massive area of growth. I would add that the world needs more reliable platforms of quality and fact checks. Too much ‘fake news’ out there. I think there will also be a shake up in the education system going forward but I expect it will take a another generation or two to really show. There are also a massive amounts of ‘awakenings’ happening now which is why people need more smart and creative ways to help people understand how to hack their own brain and emotions.
it thought in my school tho i don't even know why ppl are so anarchy toward edu system like it's a worldwide problem, problaby their environment/system.
I had depression for a while cause I didn't know what I'm living for and what should I do for the rest of my life, what's the career/life direction, what's the manual should I follow, and I watched this video now which is so accurate, relative & impactful, Thanks Chris, you nearly saved my life.
Im not a designer and yet I find myself drawn to this channel.I really love the way Chris thinks and teaches.I needed this in this time of my life.I’m grateful for this channel. Many blessings to all
I love coaching, helping people grow, getting people to reach their highest potential. I love challenges. I am good at problem solving, getting things done and activating people to get things done. I did engineering which was great actually but I wanted a little more. My parents had no expectations, but I thought that should be what I wanted. The world needs me to help people realize that they can really do anything they truly want, that they are more powerful than they can imagine. Their ideal life and career is only 6 inches away. All the information is out there for them to learn what to do. Life is for them not against them. All the problems you have in work stems from miscommunication. There’s no one thing but you have your path that you will learn from. You are meant to have multiple purposes. There are many more options. Success comes from personal development. If you want to lead, you have to lead yourself first.
Would you consider job coaching me privately? I'm struggling with matching my many skills with a fulfilling job that will bring in decent money. I have self-limiting beliefs I need encouragement to break through in order to see the bigger picture? Many thanks
I read Ikigai when I was in rehab . It helped me a lot in my recovery. It was the first book I've completed. Really nice book. "a reason to jump out of bed each morning "
As a college student facing graduation within the next year and amidst this pandemic, this talk was SO IMPORTANT! Thank you!! Much love from Latin America!!
What I found about Chris is that most designers are not good at sales, marketing and negotiation skills but he stands that part out from other designers. That part is what I want to learn from him
People are usually confused as to what they wanna do or take up as a job and I love the way how he explains it in such a simple way saying "this is what u wanna do" ....he just puts it there in such a simple , unambiguous, straightforward manner .....and there is a sense of calmness when he speaks ...it's like listening to some sort of personal motivation mantra
Love this model and coaching session. Here is my thinking model to share with everyone: - Mindset: we have to unlock ourselves and get comfortable on life-long learning and training. - Model: When making personal decisions trying to ask 3 questions: a. what you can do today; b. what you want to do; c. what you should do. - Strategy: We strive to think creatively on clarity on long term but also know what we would want to put into actions in near term (next 3 month, 6 month). If you have parents or others either say you should do this or you cann't do this, you can politely treat them as your advisory group, listen, analyze but still own your decisions. I am with TheFutur here - it is about taking your decision mindfully. The last thing - life is a magic system. you can bend the rules and build bridges toward the place you want to be. Don't just be a visitor, be a creator in your life journey.
Thanks Chris! 💛 I love this concept and i would like to add as a psychologist, I judge from my own experience that traumas can be a key road to what you love and what the world needs. Looking only for the "joyful" moments is just one facet of ourselves - remembering the things you fear, you are angry or sad about are just as powerful and can become your ikigai. I have most fear of expressing aggression in front of a woman. I learned as a child/baby that my mother may abandons me if I get really mad, so as a survival instinct, i stopped being angry even if i was. Facing that fear now continiously by doing the HAKA (Maori) and teaching other man to use their aggressive feelings as a source of power for focus, goal-orientation to follow what they really want - feels huge. I recommend you guys, look also for things you make yourself feeling sad, angry or fearful. There could be a huge potential for what you love next to joyful moments in your childhood. 🚀
@@SteveFox369 check out Simon Sinek's book Find your Why or Evan Carmichael's book Your One Word. I used them to find my mission. Now I started a podcast to help people face their fears. anchor.fm/julianopaula Good Luck!
Hi, I think you should make videos on RU-vid talking about your experience and which it’s your advice for them, I think you can really help people to become a better person😌
Chris, In this world, there are some humans that make a big difference. You are one of them. You have a great spirit. You inspire me a lot. I wish you a beautiful life!! I'm just touched. I can feel your beautiful soul from here. May the king of the universe bless you.
Graduate in 2011 and moved to US... mother of 4 beautiful girls.. turning point in my life... always ready to learn about self discovery and awareness and how to raise good kids... god always help me to find good stuff like the futur.... I'm trying to raise a good family but want to contribute to this world before leaving this world... thanks Chris do for your time, content, motivation and energy you put...
Generally, a profession is the job you've chosen to do “for life", more than just a temporary thing. However, just because you do something long-term doesn't mean you enjoy it. You may even hate what you do for a living! “Vocation" is something you are “called" to do, from the Latin “vocare", to call. It's following a profession that is your heart's desire. That is the main difference between the two.
I am the type that hardly get swayed. How I bumped into this video, I would call a mystery. I don't know who this guy is, but you're in my opinion, a gem.
Absolutely love how you explained the concept of ikigai Mr.Chris. This is the reason why most people struggle with productivity. They dont need to watch productivity videos. They just need to be interested in something to be productive. Cuz once you love what you do, you will learn more about it, you will find job opportunities. You will be happy at work.
I wish i could've watched this inspirational video years ago. The time when i was dreaming to be in the United States, to built my dream job. I had a fire in my soul, i had a dream. Then i had to leave my country because of a dictator. I left my job, the company that i love. I left everything behind me. But someday, i realized that destiny took me here, the United States, to my dream world. It was tough, struggling time for me and my family for sure. As an immigrant, i forgot about my dreams already. But now, after 4 years, during another difficult time for all the world, i started to find my way again. I met Futur's videos like a miracle, i found what i exactly need to hear. Every video is making a blast in my mind. Can't stop thinking what was said in the videos all day. Thank you so much for this huge support, after all suffering years you made me feel alive again. You just pushed the button to turn on the engine. I can't thank enough!
I love how Chris always mentions his wife especially during his sessions, it shows how close they, how supportive she is and the impact she's had on him over the years... this is a great lesson in terms of selecting a partner.
One of the best speeches and best way of couching that I've listened to so far. You've no idea how much I needed this, I'm a fresh graduate and I've been working in customer services for almost 3 years during school bc I needed money. This speech is turning everything over real soon. Thanks so much for the amazing content!
Just finished 3years of study in Finance and Accounting this year and don't know what to do next so...I've been binging on the Futur's videos and podcasts.
I year ago I emigrated from my country because a heavy crisis. I was a receantly graduated journalist and I worked at it, I loved it and I was so passionated about it. But as an immigrant everything changed. I had to work as a casher at a supermarket and I was tryn to survive with a very poor salary. Finally, I started at a new job as a Community Manager for a brand of jeans. I had short experience on it and I liked it, but I don't know if I want to dedicate to this forever. This video was so good to make me analize a lot of things and I'm going to apply this excersices to determine what I really want to do on this point of my new life. Thank you so much for share all this information!
I'm a school director here in Ecuador, from these day we will have 2 Ikigai sessions in school: one at the beggining and one at the end. If we don't get our students to find new "love" and "Good at" or "World Needs" in a whole schoolar year, we have to change something. THank you so much!
People should be watching this video right now. If the world crises affected their careers really badly and have lost their jobs, the change right now is a great jump off point for a review. I love the part where we should put in "what the world needs right now". It brings in a new perspective in how we can fit in the crises. Thanks for this video.
Anyone who's still letting the government control them at this level has bigger problems than "what job should I do?" Have fun staying "safe" in your cell, I mean home. 99.997% survival rate is pretty scary.
This video makes me miss school. Because i just realized that all i did before was really crappy. I am one of those student who is always late in terms of knowledge. Now it's been almost 4 years since i graduated in college and i still don't have a job because i couldn't figured out what i really wanna do in my life. By the way, the first part of this video actually teared me up and i don't know why. The things that i am actually most interested is what the world needs for me. I just don't have a guts to do it.
Earlier today, I literally searched for "passion" on Skillshare and I'm currently watching a video on Ikigai. Glad to see this from a entrepreneur/designer point of view.
Literally changed careers because of this video. I was having a quarter life crisis, became a UX designer and now I've been a designer for 4 years. Wild.
A vocation is something you do that feels like your life mission rather than just a job. I would have put it at the intersection of "you love" and "you are good at"
One thing I learned from being a parent is that parents are not perfect. Likely they did the best they could in their circumstances. So important to be grateful! Beats the heck out of being resentful and bitter.
this hit me hard since i graduated with a mechanical engineering degree, but it also took me awhile. i ended up hating engineering and now left a little more poor and confused. confused to where i'll be heading through life. this video helped me a bit, but still get the eerie feeling, life won't be any easier for me.
the realisation of her ikigai and smile @ 21.05 minutes makes this video worth every minute and more of viewing time. The doors of possibility got kicked wide open!
I am an educator myself and when he said most of the teachers don't know what they're talking about - True. A lot of them know a little bit about the subject - True. Very few of them know a lot about the subject - True. No one knows about everything - Also true. I sometimes ask myself these questions and Thankyou @TheFutur for putting this out.
Somebody shared this video to me at the most needed time. I am battling burnout and depression lately thinking that I don't have a purpose anymore..or why the heck am I still living because I don't even know what I really wanted in life. And I have been thinking of resigning from my work because I can feel that I don't belong there. That I know that my heart was longing for something that I really want and would make me happy, but I really didnt know what it was. The whole 46+ minutes of watching this was worth it. Even tho I was sobbing hard while watching the first few minutes because that hit a lot of different points in my life, and it was an eye opener. Hopefully after listing down all the things needed to be listed I will finally be able to find my Ikigai and can continue on living my life. A big thank you to you Sir Chris for making this. It was a big help indeed. More power to you and to The Futur 🙂
Around the 22:00 mark, when Chris offers Kailee the idea of combining odds and ends, it suddenly struck a nerve in me. To write things down and examine our lives deeply seems like a basic step, but for some reason, caused me to feel highly emotional and vulnerable. I discovered this channel earlier in the week and am incredibly drawn towards something invisible here. I am 23058 out of 1b, thank you for all the great content!
Chris is so sympathic, i could listen for hours. That "Ikigai" stuff could also be transfered to find the Job you want.. exchange the World and put in Company. Very helpful for app devs. You love, numbers, are good in algorithms, arrays, complex structures. you get paid for it, and there are companys that need exact such an employee.. well done thats your "job ikigai".
Hey I’ve been helping people find their “IT” for years- you call it IKIGAI. I used a model I created called the Bubble Model which looks very much like your Venn diagram. It works great. You did a great job with this video
Great talk, thank you! Maybe instead of asking "What would be good for the world", one should ask "What is wrong with it", so you get another perspective to find your calling
Chris, Grateful for mentoring me on my [ ATOMIC ] • [ SUPERPOWER ], 60 years in the making - The AKASHIC record + IKIGAI process leads to the INFINITE GAME of life.
When I was little I spent time dancing and singing in front of mirror for hours. Also spent time filming myself and making movies in Windows Movie Maker. I invented roles for myself and I played out all involved parts or said other character dialogs in my head also without camera. But I was super super super shy and anxious in general. I'm now 22 almost and anxiety is my biggest obstacle which I'm overcoming all the time. Actually in Kindergarten I said that I want to be a spy when I grow up. Because I wanted to fight like Zorro and Jackie Chan, and pretend to be someone else. Also I was too afraid to say that I actually want to be a singer. Now I'm working on my singing. But I always wanted to just try to be everything because everything is interesting.
Same for me but acting lol I'd record my self as a superhero's and recreating my favorite video games I would do this all day and then put it on Windows movie maker and edit it and I felt so happy but as I started growing older I felt shy and scared to actually pursue it and it didn't help that my family wanted/wants me to go the "safe" route and go to school and get a "real" job that makes good money.. :/ I just finished highschool and I'm going to really try to get into acting :)
I'm glad I came across this. Recently turned 27 and been struggeling finding what I like doing for a long time now, spending a lot of energy on jobs I don't like only to end up being drained at the end of the day. Will definitely try this out and hope it helps. Thanks for the video!
"That advice they gave you, you have to live with the consequences, not them." Wow. Truth. Eye opening. Thank you Chris and the futur (accelerator member here)!
@videoracle I never said I needed improvement. I just said I wish someone told me the technique when I was young. Maybe I would have done somethings differently. Don't assume people need your help every time. Your pretty pushy.
Before going to uni, I wrote down all those things and decided on a thing that seemed to be best suited for me. It was hell. I wasn’t passionate about this. I liked some things related to it, but not the thing I studied, therefore I did horribly. Didn’t get good at it. I wouldn’t get paid for it. That was definitely not something the world needed, no matter what I thought earlier. Please think about it carefully. I dropped out after few years of studying… I feel like I completly lost these years out of my life. I felt so stuck. Now I study something different and it costs me quite a bit of money on top of the time BUT I have actual free time and I’m EXTREMELY happy about what I’m learning and doing everyday. Can’t wait to learn and do more, and work full time! I’m peaceful. Passion is a huge part. I also found myself a related hobby and started a small business since leaving the previous uni. Now… I have tears in my eyes. I wish everyone to find their calling. Follow your intuition guys. You know it in your heart. Let this comment to be my contribution to “what the world needs” - if it reaches one person that needed to “hear” that, I’ll be satisfied
Just brilliant: I'm rouding the cape of 40 and in the past I chose all directions. Just now everything began coming together but I lacked the insight to make the jump. After your video something clicked and it's now crystal clear how to move forward. Thanks Chris for your vocation ;).
I have no clue how to apply this to being a Screenwriter, which I've been doing for many many many years. Yes, I've been able to make a little money here and there writing screenplays, but not enough to leave my 9 to 5 job in the Aerospace Industry. I'm almost 50 years old now...I don't know what to do now. All I've ever known is writing, and it's the only thing I've ever loved and wanted to do, since I was a kid. Please everyone, send positive vibes my way.😞
If you love screenwriting then write a book teaching others how to write for screen plays. I have heard it's very different than other styles of writing and more demanding because you have to visualise what is actually feasable to present on screen. Pass what you have learned and discovered to others, to the world. I have found that by teaching others I have also learn more about what I am teaching. You start to realise that the knowledge you have gained though your profession is not actually intuitive and that's why others struggle to follow.
custom Udemy course on screenwriting? RU-vid videos about writing (or writing fails)? Patreon page where you teach writing? How about connecting with some comics or illustration guy and sell stories you 2 make as digital content? What kinds of screenplays do you write? Good ol hollywood stuff or something innovative and fresh ?
@@PierreLaBaguette Those were wonderful suggestions. Thank you for your encouragement. I write Period Dramas. Had one make it to the Nicholl Fellowship Quarters in 2011, and 3 other scripts always place in the top 20% each year. Not everyone who dreams of being a working screenwriter actually becomes one, even with many years of writing experience and scripts under their belt. Just hoping I'm one of the lucky ones to actually have this dream materialize into reality.
This video should be shown to College students before graduating...and for those who want to change JOB bec they are burnt out, this is also a great video for them...find your Ikigai.
This guy is a legend an he is giving you all this information for FREE! Thank you on behalf of everyone. Today, there is no excuse for being dumb, unskilled or uneducated. The amount of information available is truly mind boggling and it is FREE. Your education begins when you leave school. I have spent my whole life learning and doing, and have had multiple areas of expertise across multiple industries, all unrelated and am still learning stuff. Can you imagine doing that before the internet, email, mobile phones or social media! Finding information, knowledge and expertise was almost impossible. Something as simple as trying to buy one book to learn something could take months! It really is sooo easy these days.
I had to post this. I've been struggling with the multi-talented syndrome for a long time and this video gave me a clear picture. I am a designer that likes writing and storytelling and a host of many hobbies that I just found out are all related to each other by using Web Designer to tell your brand story🥺🥺😂😂😂💚💚💚💚
This is amazing, I grew up LOVING to draw but gave it up because I didn't see how I can do it for a living. What I was missing is how I can combine that love for drawing with something else that the world needs and that's what I've been focusing on getting better at. Here are my notes for this video: ✅ What I love: drawing, being creative, planning, reading, learning, bullet journaling ✅ What I'm good at: summarizing, creating guides or notes, analyzing data, ✅ What the world needs: education, inspiration, ✅ What people would pay for: a course/coaching programs, ebooks 🙌 now I'm on a journey to help other bullet journalists inspire others and maybe monetize their creative passions as well
Thank you, my son just finished high school and plans to join university next year. He's still confused about career decisions and this is really very helpful .
