Philosophies for Life I love this! Just heard about this tonight in a meting for coming off addicting meds...so...this is a welcome relief! 😊 Thank you!
My mother in law is from a small island not too far from Okinawa. Her island is named Kikai. She just turned 96. Other than bad hearing and blood pressure she has no visible health issues. She has been living with us for a couple of years now and is a true joy. Up every morning around 7:30, hair fixed up, dressed nice and ready to face the day. She loves a vegetable rich diet, especially sweet potatoes (there’s a Japanese variety we find sometimes). She helps out in the kitchen, crochets every day, loves to watch golf (very passionately), and tries to walk outside a bit everyday. She stretches a lot throughout the day. She keeps herself very busy with little things every day. She laughs and smiles a lot, sometimes she gets down thinking about her older daughter that passed a couple of years ago, but day to day she is smiling. We play cards and she wins just as much as us youngsters in our 60s. What’s really funny is sometime she tries to bend the rules a bit to win.....🤣 I watch her and try to absorb her wisdom about life and living.
When I was 21 years old I worked in a convenient store in Texas. One day an older lady came in and you could see she spend most of her life frowning. She had deep frown lines. It was at that moment I decided I was going to have laugh lines when I got older. My 54th birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks and guess what...I have my laugh lines. I am constantly told I shine or I'm bright or I have a great vibe once I was even told I looked mystical. And all because I decided 30+ years ago to have laugh lines.

"The key is to have a few, 3 or 4, good friends." True enough. But also, try to be your own best friend. Because regardless friendships will come, they will go, especially here in the West. But you'll be with you a lifetime. So strive to be happy with this relationship first and foremost. John~ American Net'Zen
My parents and grandparents always talked to me about Ikigai. My paternal grandmother lived to 97, my maternal grandmother and great grandmother lived to 100.
Here are the the 10 ikigai's : 1) Follow your reason to wake up every morning 2) Take it slow 3) Eat only to 80% full 4) Surround yourself with good friends 5) Smile 6) Reconnect with nature 7) Give thanks 8) Exercise 9) Live in the moment 10) Never retire
I think the concept of Ikigai is fantastic, helping you start a process to identify your purpose in life in a way which is easy to understand and follow
Like most Americans, in this culture, I had to wait until I retired ( 1st journey) to start my igkigai, 2nd life journey. I am happy, that the now generation is learning about igkigai. The argument of the value to learn about other cultures of the world.
The concepts of IKIGAI are fantastic and many can be incorporated. But everyone may not be that lucky to have ideal conditions to implement all of them.
These kinds of philosophies and Christianity are still relevant and are needed now more than ever before. The competitive world of the present is making people more self-centered rather than selfless.
Many thanks for finding you and your philosophy of life. I believe I was on the road , but missed some points which I learned today. I am 85 and still walking straight. Hope to do better with ikigai.
I really love this channel, thank you for sharing so much wisdom. It allows people to identify to one they identify with the most and enforce it on their lives
I have four dogs and plants! Not one friend. People are available to Me because of obligations but not one. I will try to be a friend to create opportunities to grow friendships!
yes they count! another video i just viewed said that "you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with".. it was difficult for me to even get to 4 so i counted my dog as 5. i spend more time with her than anyone else so yes, count cats and dogs!
Video deeply appreciated. Highly recommended . 💯👍💕 I watched it twice. But I also included presence of God’s wisdom application in my life for REAL JOY and have the reason to smile always .
I've run across this term 3x in the past 2 months. I really needed this. I already feel healthier and happy just watching this. I cannot wait to implement these ways of living. Ridding of all that does me no good and welcoming in all that benefits me.
I've deliberately given up on social obligations. It's something I never wanted to participate in, so now I just don't go to Aunt Sally's son's graduation party because I simply don't need it.
long life in western world is different, full of worries and anxieties and fear! so live short but fruitful! the quality of a blessed life is not about the length of it, but about the quality of it.
@@dominiqueharry7436 thanks, if we don't waste our time we have sufficient time to get the fruit of our effort. Even if you write only one poem of a higher quality in your entire life , it'll be more than enough, so it's all about the quality of things we do.
GREAT VID!!! I am getting up and go exercise now. What Ive learned is if I just take the 10k steps a day I feel great no need for gym. !! I adore the voice of the narrator , as I'm brushing up on my English with him in the meantime :-)) Well done!
You, this video and the good people who are also grateful and, therefore, contributing to this learning are on my gratitude list tonight. Advice to myself and those interested is to not expect or eventually try to be perfect at Ikigi. Celebrate everytime there is any attempt or success in the moment. Congratulate yourself. If we beat ourselves up, we are more likely to give up as we tend to avoid doing things we get punished for. Go slowly. Thank you.
The only thing better than liquid gold is WORD GOLD. What a valuable and timely message. Words to live by. I thank you for providing knowledge that can help me to improve upon my life.
I went to Okinawa last year.. it's a beautiful clean place.. I had the pleasure of being there for two months🙋🏽♀️ And despite having air rail buses and plenty of traffic the air seems a hellofa lot cleaner than the USA.. the food tastes so much better.. And the weather is great... Except for the typhoons😁
My family tends to have long lifespans on both spans and sometimes it scares me but this video was nice. I'm going to care for my health and fitness as much as possible so I can enjoy my old age more if I end up very old. My great grandmas were 96 and 100 when they died and my grandad who died in 2018 was 85 which is quite old for a man... I was still angry about it though because I was only 23 but I was born into the family late so I was lucky to get as much time with him as I did.
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO. THE VIDEO IS REALLY INTERESTING, ENLIGHTENING, AND FULL OF PRACTICAL WISDOM. IT TEACHES US TO LOVE LIFE, ENJOY LIFE, LIVE A SIMPLE AND BALANCE LIFE. LIFE IN OKINAWA IS VERY DIFFERENT FROM MAINLAND JAPAN BECAUSE IN MOST BIG CITIES OF JAPAN, IT IS ALWAYS A HURRIED LIFESTYLE. I REALLY WANT TO SEE OKINAWA SOMEDAY. I have been to Japan several times and had travelled all over Japan EXCEPT OKINAWA. 沖縄へ行きたいです。remember the 3 GREATEST BLESSINGS IN LIFE a healthy mind, a healthy body, and a healthy spirit. A healthy mind is the hardest because everything begins with a thought. THANK YOU AGAIN.

Good diet, good friends, good time, good smile, good heart, good enivorement, , good gratitude, good exercise, good movement, good flow... Live a live life forever ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I like to think that loving yourself is the first step to happiness. Then naturally, in love with life, allowing to love and be loved would seemed so positively possible. Lastly, love is a decision. Decide to love and positively go forward.

It is one of the best book I ever read. It gives ideas of purpose of life and happiness in life. Movements of body, getting up in the morning having simple exercises keep you healthy. Dr Vasant Khatav MD
“One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn’t do.” -Henry Ford “Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. The fearful are caught as often as the bold.” -Helen Keller
As a Japanese myself, this video is ironic, because most Japanese work from 9am to midnight with no weekends nor holidays. Japanese are dying from overwork or likely to commit suicide due to harsh work environment on daily basis. Japan is probably the only country that the number of suicides over numbers the number of deaths by covid.
wonderful presentation with meaningful message for the whole mankind. Saved my time to read the book IKIGAI thanks for the efforts to present to the youtube viewers freely in sparing your precious time. Will surely visit the island of Akinawa once in life time....
I recall as a student visiting a Chinese city called Suzhou a few years ago and I was curious how they managed to keep the city so incredibly pristine when my own city, Manchester, was so comparatively unkempt and dirty, I noticed that every street had an elderly man or woman whose job seemed to be to maintain their own section of road, they would cut and cultivate the greenery and pick up rubbish until the streets were immaculate. I wondered whether retirement homes were necessary in that city as these (albeit very lowly paid) workers seemed very old but still very spritely and sociable with their coworkers, i suppose they were in a way living their Ikigai.
That is a wonderfull video full of great information about IKIGAI and Okinawa very well done I was loving it so much and then, the person you used as exemple at 19:37... from all the people in the world why him?... it almost discredites what IKIGAI really is associating it with that person :s now if I share this with people, seing that guy at the end, I hope not but maybe some will be "hesitant" to know more about this....
