I lived in asia 4 years been on many dates and relationships, some of the most fulfilling ones we had a large language barrier.. it cant be helped if someone gives up, but then they weren't meant for you. If you truly like and love the person you guys will make it work even if it means learning the language
All these people think the language barrier is nothing important and can just be overcome by "really liking each other a lot" but it's not that simple. After working at an International Association over there and seeing case after case of foreigners with little to no Japanese and their Japanese spouse coming in for assistance in arbitration in a nasty divorce, anyone who goes into a relationship with someone they literally cannot talk to when they get into a fight, all I can say is, the relationships that last are built on a foundation of strong communication, and language ability is very very important in that. Remember, kids. A puppy is not just for Christmas, and a marriage is not just for the few years it takes for you to get through the honeymoon period.

For Indians it is not big issues 😅😅 because we grew up learning 2 or more than 2 language and because indian is very very very diverse (28 official lang, more than 200 non official language and as very different cultures from each other), it is very normal to have a parent's who speaks different languages and 1 common language(mostly English) as a time go both of them will automatically learn the others language of there partner 😅😅(no body force them to learn language),they just learn it because they love each other enough to learn the new language, so ya ,if u love love them enough u can make it work

Because if that was the sole reason, they'd have died off already centuries ago. They have always been historically an isolationist country and its very easy to do so when you're a relatively small island (Japan is around the height of New York City to Miami Florida give or take) There is alot of internal suppression that goes on in their country and the locals do express themselves in weird ways when they find themselves being unable to really be themselves. Like apparently dying your hair blonde as a guy is seen as very rebellious. And that kind of social oppression I could not ever live in. I do think japan is a very strict and overbearing country and that mentality does more harm to its citizens than good. But as someone who isn't Japanese and has never lived there, I have no right to tell them how they should live. It's Japan's own right to be xenophobic and bit want outsiders. That's the whole reason their country is still seen as an ideal destination to immigrate to for alot of people, because they have MAINTAINED that culture of excellence that alot of people who wish to live in Japan admire. If they just started letting everyone in and making them feel welcome it would instantly stop being Japan and become a mix of cultures and immigrants who want here in Japan to be more like hkem and change it to fit and all of a sudden you've got the very real consequences of unchecked immigration. Japan has every right to not want outsiders and to make them feel unwelcome. But in the west it's in your face, in Asia it's alot more elitist and pretentious but they don't get seen as "Cool" for being bad boys like we do in the west instead they get seen as "Cool" for being like ultra succesful in the Customer service voice. I'm not explaining it right but hopefully you get the idea. Customer service voice in a social setting, in public, with no customers I mean. Of course this opinion I have is derived from just the outside looking in, because of the aforemention heavy xenophobia, it's almost impossible for anyone who's not born Japanese to actually tell you what Japanese act like with each other. She really hit the nail on the head when she said "as foreigners, [they] don't really take us that seriously." I have worked for a couple of Japanese companies, and they're one of the most xenophobic cultures I've ever encountered. Not even in a malicious way; it's just so ingrained in them that they don't even realize when they're being condescending.
It does make sense for a small island that didn't really interact with the rest of the world til like 100 years ago, and that takes their culture very seriously. I don't blame them.

It's kind of two sided. The Japanese workforce is miles above any other countries' in terms of quality and diligence. They are smarter and work harder than anybody else, and when they look at a foreigner who can only do less than half of their work, what should they think?
How can you judge from a 2 min interview. She looks good, seels smart and good at communicating. That's about all. One thing for exemple is she doesn't seem to speak japanese much -probably an issue. Also she seems to under realise language issue in a relationship.

I went on a date with an Indian man, he was asking me so many marriage oriented questions on that first date, including how many children I wanted. They are focused! I can see how that would be very different to a Japanese man.
The only purpose for dating is marriage. If there are things in the woman that do not fit with the man's expectations (some of which are cultural), that should be enough for a man to move on. He should not waste the woman's time.

Let's boil it down to the basics: The Japanese are exceptionalist and don't rate foreigners that high. Call it also racism, xenophobia or superiority, but it's deeply anchored and results in not wanting to create lasting relationships or families with non-Japanese partners. That said, things have been changing over the past 30 years. Exposure to rest of the world (TV, media, technology, travelling, music, etc.), cultural flexibility and more foreigners living in Japan have resulted in a larger number of bi-racial relationships and families, and more acceptance of the unknown.
It totally depends. I was pursued by a Japanese man who always did his best to make me feel loved and happy. He was kind, sweet, and caring. We had a healthy long-distance relationship until we got together and he proposed to me after a year of dating. Now we're happily married, and through ups and downs, I don't think I could ever find a loving, resilient husband like him.

Showing respect, speaking kindly, being thoughtful, choice in gifts, those are all ways they show love and care. Does he share with you his daily life? Does he include you in decision making? Does he ask about your day or listen to you intently? Those are ways they show care and concern. But more than anything, communication is key. Ask and truly listen. If it isn't something you're comfortable with (some people aren't talkative) then attraction will not be enough if you're simply not compatible, no sense in forcing it. Otherwise, be easy going and let it grow and blossom on its own. ❤

Constant communication, encouragement, and motivation is a must. Back when we were still LDR, he always made time to call even though he was busy. In his free time, he always prepares fun activities for us to enjoy; he writes me long love letters every month and makes cute DIY gifts for me. He also loves talking about Marriage, a wedding, and a family, and when I am mad, he calls me unstoppably to make me okay. I think it really depends on the guy and how patient you are with him.
Ya my wife didn’t speak a word of English when I first met her. We did break up over time because things were hard and I was immature so was she, years later we met up again randomly And stayed together since she knew English now and the relationship became much simpler to communicate (for the most part lol), so been married a few years now and getting a house

The last point she made about language barrier is so true. I experience it myself with my partner. We both dont speak english as our native language but we have yet to experience any problems because of that. It somtimes requires some extra time and effort to talk about more intricate subjects but we both put in that energy when necessary. What I want to get at is: Be open and accepting, sometimes a little bit more effort can create beautiful things. The easiest road is the dullest one.
The ability to communicate through language is incredibly important for learning about one another. You are describing a situation where you still have the ability to communicate. An actual language barriar is not at all conducive to finding true love and understanding. Without the ability to articulate one's humor, ideals, interests, perspectives, ambitions, and feelings you cannot attain anything more than a superficial, shallow, understanding of one another, making your connection with someone tantamount to puppy love. English may not be your first language, but if you can still use it to articulate amd express your feelings to your loved one, then it isn't a barrier, its a bridge.

@@albarjas8360 I wouldn't say it's very shallow. Neither is it completely physical (Long distance for now, so most of what we can do is talk). I won't claim we're perfect, far from. But it works for us, we never depended on an extensive vocuabulary to have deep conversations. We sometimes have to get creative though, hahaha. And when there is improvement over time it also feels so special and rewarding. Seeing how we've already grown, because we're both open minded, accepting and patient(!!!) with one-another, tells me that we have so much left to experience together. I can't help but feel excited when I think about it. A quick example is how I learn more about her or her culture everytime I improve my skills in her native language.
I dated a Chinese woman for 3 years and she literally never told her parents I exist or that she was dating me. It hurt. She met my family and friends, I wanted to get married but basically I wasn’t rich enough to be worthy in the end. I hope she finds what she is looking for.
The Chinese have a bit of an obsession with money yeah, not all but most, especially old people probably due to the revolution. Because no matter how bad things get, if you got money you have a chance. And sinocentrism is still...there so unless you're Chinese middle class or so rich they don't care about your race/ethnicity...it'll be hard to make Chinese parents agree to a marriage, especially if it's with their daughter.

She's right. I dated a Japanese girl who didn't speak any English. I can speak Japanese very well, not fluently but very well. I thought her not having any English ability beyond "Hello, nice to meet you" would be an issue. Even with my Japanese level we were able to date effectively. Our relationship lasted for an entire year and ended for other reasons, but the language barrier was not one of them.
Something I heard from a RU-vidr that lives in Japan is sometimes people in Japan wouldn’t spend that much time with him because they were expecting him to leave since he’s a foreigner. Also they aren’t the most extroverted people so they don’t always go out of their way to spend time with you. I personally don’t have any experience but I thought it was interesting
I had the opposite experience with Japanese men. They took me seriously and wanted me to meet their parents pretty early on. And they also talked about family and marriage 😅. I think if you build a trust and solid friendship, just like with any relationship, it will grow to something more serious. And wanting to learn and understand the culture is crucial.

Im married to a Japanese man and we communicate in English. It’s very helpful. I have a lots of friends who married also a Japanese and they use Japanese for communication and its not good. Expressing is difficult and it create a gap between the two of u. And Japanese people are not so open with their feelings. So I guess take the communication important or else you will suffer in distress
I don't know why those who say this think it makes people feel better 😂... I've said it couple times but I had VERY good reason for saying it, it wasn't just a casual way of rejecting, and the girls I've had to eventually say it to were extremely inconsiderate.
Generally, men are not as open to dating foreign women coming tot heir country. It's usually women who are open to dating foreigners coming to their country.

She’s right. Most Japanese men I dated just wanted to pass the time or to experience sex with a foreigner (a Latina in my case). But that’s ok, I wasn’t looking for anything serious at that time. Also, in the end love will come in the most unexpected way. My now Japanese hubby met me when he dmed me on insta after he saw my insta acc on my tinder profile, and even tho we didn’t match there we did in real life haha. Now, language and cultural barriers have made us have many arguments, but he’s just too handsome (for me), funny and reliable to give up on. And thanks to him now I have a beautiful, amazing daughter.

I don't think any men will *knowingly* get in relationship with those women. Unless women lie about it or act like everyone do it so i she also have h03 phase. Having past dating experience and sle3ping with lots of men so you can settle with one man after h03 phase is 2 different things.

Even if u look at his videos, most of the mixed backgrounds people are usually a Japanese women witu any other nationality. I haven't seen a Japanese men with foreign woman.
I’m Filipino-Canadian..I agree with this ..I dated a Japanese guy for 7 years but boy he just wasted my time…so I eventually ended the relationship..He didn’t really express what he wanted in the relationship..he just led me on..and I waited for 7 years..before officially ending the relationship.. personally I think majority of Japanese men prefer to date their own race.
Idk the language barrier really is an issue though. You can be initially attracted to someone and have a good time with each other, but if you can't speak enough of the same language, then you're not really getting to know them, just your imagined idea of them.
I found what she said about the language barrier really interesting because I can relate very much. When my now-husband started dating, his English speaking ability was super low and it took us an insane amount of effort to communicate, especially on a deeper level. But we took that effort because we were really invested! I would never go through that for someone I wasn’t extremely attracted to.
Nonsense. Language barrier is never an issue. If you really like each other you will spend enough time together to learn. Pillow talk is the best way to learn a language.
