When I went to Japan for the first time I took the bullet train from tokyo to kyoto and HAD to grab one of those veggie lunch boxes because i was so excited there was a vegan option. it was actually super easy to find (i feel like im just used to vegan options being harder to find lol, but it was easy!), and so yummmmyyyyy!!! I miss it, watching this video made me miss it more!!!! those donuts look so good i am going to save that place in my list of stuff to eat when i go back to japan. Even if they're recyclables it's not good. Recycling itself costs a lot of energy and the end product is always a lower quality than the previous one (paper is kind of an exception). They should be reusables that can be returned to the store/chain to be sustainable and eco-friendly. Making recyclable boxes for singular use is pure greenwashing.

It was by far the worst nausea I have never felt probably by like 5 times. At first I was sitting the opposite direction that the train was moving and of course that didn't help anything but the stewardess was so nice she found me another seat. And then I could stand it but just barely. So be prepared and bring nausea medication I also found sitting next to the window helped.

Love your videos Sharla (and Emma!). I was lucky enough to spend 3 weeks in Japan in April and am now desperate to go back for an extended amount of time to see more of the country and learn more about Japanese culture. I'm finding it difficult to find work in my field (experienced and qualified data analytics/database development professional) or work on an English teaching scheme without a college degree. I think a good idea for a video would be one offering advice for people wanting to move to Japan; both professionals (like myself) where there is limited information out there and those doing working holidays & teaching English too with/without degrees. Maybe with some friends who have taken the different routes in! Thanks :)

Your vids make me more into and try more and more vegan/ vegetarian food❤️ As a kid, I hated them, but now I just love them ❤️

I'd love a video of eating vegan in Japan. Like the kanji to look out for to know if it's vegan or not. Love you Sharla 😻

Veganism is not a big thing in Japan. Not at all. It's hard to find. And there is no specific kanji to look out for. There are a variety of kanji related to vegetables but unless you're literate in Japanese, you'll be completely unable to recognize or understand them in context. They are used in all sorts of words that have nothing to do with veganism or vegetarianism. The word "vegan" itself is foreign, so it's written in katakana as ヴィーガン. But you won't see it much.

@@annikaa.5417 Actually it's written ヴィーガン (viigan).

The bento looked so great. The doughnuts reminds me of classical German Berliner/Krapfen/Pfannkuchen. There are several words for it, it's very popular and traditional in Germany
