Among the friends you have that have built really cool lives in JP do they have anything in common career wise or skills they've built to be successful there? I was an English teacher for 2.5 years and would love to go back doing something different.
The place looks amazing. I'm just worried about the noisy and loud foreigners (Americans mostly) that are going to stay there bothering the neighbors and not knowing how to keep their voices down... I hope you don't have so much trouble with that.
We’re very clear in the manual for the house that it’s a residential neighbourhood and noise needs to be kept to a minimum. It’s a fancy property so I don’t think it’ll attract groups wanting to come to Japan to be noisy and party anyways :)
omg i watched this video back when it first released but since then i've moved to japan (tokyo). a few days ago, i was walking in my neighborhood when i saw that cafe and thought it looked really familar! because it was shorakuen! i live really close to it. it looks really good but a little expensive so i think i'll go on a special occasion with my friends.
That bathtub is the star of the house! It's so pretty, I wanna have one in my place. (And I have a bigger but boring European-style tub in my rental apartment.) Cheers from Berlin!
You should look for a property up north that either has storeroom or flat on it. Turn it in a property for permanent rent to a handyman, that can work from your property and also maintain your main air bnb. That way you don't have to pay a salary just the bill for fixing whatever is broken. Or a cleaner that lives work on same principle
One thing I don't hear many people talk about is health system in Japan. Do you have any videos about the topic? Great video by the way! Just found your channel in my recommended page and already subscribed!
I remember watching you when I was little, I’m finally an adult and I’m preparing to go to live in Japan as I always wanted to. Thank you for all the content you’ve done all this time.
What ????? 20年も、日本に住んで居るのですか? 確かに、川越は良い所かも知れませんね♩ 逆に、なんでそんなに日本が良いのですか? しかし、30歳の前半かと思って居ました! 日本の魅力って何ですか? I recommend Chichibu in Saitama Prirefecture ♩
2:05 no, you dont need permanent residency to get a bank loan for a car or a house. But only some banks offer loans to foreigners and in my experience, the interest rate will be a bit higher than it would be generally (i assume this is because foreign status is regarded as a risk since you could easily leave Japan and just bail on your loan). I know because a while ago, I was looking at buying a Sekisui home and the agent actually called the bank to find out if we could get a mortgage and was told yes. And we did get a loan for a car but had to go through our bank rather than directly through the dealership. Also, thanks for sharing about Nakasendo! It looks like something I'd love to do when my girls are old enough
Hi Sharmeleon, heartedly congratulations for your new home. This new home is your result of good karma and hard work. You are a hardworking lady. Keep going 😊 💕 Always rise as Sun. But there is a query. I want to know what is the cost of this house you are living in? Please can you tell. By the way your house is pretty good. ❤Lots of love from India 🎉
I cannot believe its 20 years! So cool, i am listening to Chris’s audiobook at the moment, and its lovely to hear all about his experiences and descriptions of the culture.
This was such a nice video. I left my heart in north Japan for sure. Was fortunate enough to briefly live in Morioka but left due to a bad company that I worked for and I think we have some mutual acquaintances up there, but will definitely come back :)
OLED TV is color wise better yes, but quality wise it's far worse than LED TVs. OLED TV life span is very risky, it can get burn in within first months of use or it can last years. LED TV is guaranteed to last normally for years.
We didn't actually have a wedding in Japan, but my wife and I were married there in 2019. She's Japanese and I'm Canadian, so fortunately she was able to navigate all the paperwork and visits to the ward office that were necessary to make it official. Even though there was no ceremony, we did spend a day in Kamakura having traditional wedding pictures taken and it was an incredible experience. I felt pretty awkward at first being covered in about 7 layers of towels, wraps and kimono and walking around in front of a bunch of Japanese people, but everyone was so friendly and congratulated us wherever we went, so it sort of made me feel like a king (or emperor) being all dressed up and having everyone treat me so well. 😄
Wish I'd been as brave as you and taken the plunge 20 years ago. I'll always regret not having tried moving to Japan when I still had the chance, but I'm glad I get to live vicariously through you (and Chris).
