I used to be a prowler tech at a Chrysler dealer. Two problems I was always fixing was broken overrunning clutch on the alternator, won’t charge if broken. Replace the alternator. Fuel gage calibration was always a nightmare. Gage system must learn the limits of the sending unit but owners usually don’t drive enough to calibrate the system.

Are these hard to service nowadays? Im seriously thinking of buying one to daily but afraid when it breaks down I wont find a shop to take to or parts for it?

@@2boliviano nobody drove them daily when new. Parts could be a pain to get now. Chrysler isn’t known for stocking old parts. Strictly a car show car or fun to drive on Sunday car.

Thank you for making this video and for your comments about my trailer stand design. I designed this product almost 20 years ago and have sold many of them. If you own a Prowler trailer, you need one of these. I have them in stock and ready to ship.

Thanks for the videos, great stuff. One thing I noticed though that could help you in the future with opening the top. When you unlatch the clips and release the hooks, push the hooks back in to the clips until they click. That will keep the hooks out of the way and they don’t re-latch themselves. This also hides the hooks when you fold the top in the trunk so they don’t point up in the trunk like they do on your video. Keep up the good work, love this stuff and can’t wait for the next part! 💪🏻👍🏻

Vent tube on fuel filler neck was filled with paint on some prowlers. I found one that was completely plugged. Tank would not fill. Car was a lemon law buyback for that reason. I found and fixed the problem.

One other thing you should take a look at replacing, the intake manifold gasket. When it gets old it can fail and let anti-freeze into you oil. It's a cheap part, labor cost should not be too bad. I had a 2000 Prowler back in 2004.

I owned in 10 years two 2001 Plymouth Prowler, a silver and a burned orange one. I never had any large tech issue. My orange was a west coast car with a 19/22 tire combo and some body mods, the silver came right out of the chrysler group as a factory ride. A friend has my orange one, that has now only 9000 miles on the speedo. Maybe I take it back again 🤔😁🏁

i own prowler as well nice videos i notice you have those warning stickers on your visors i figured out how to remove very easily,they are actually painted on if you take microfiber cloth dab some prep solve on rag you can remove it quite easily and looks cleaner especially top down

Hello Patrick, have you any experience replacing the input/output transmission speed sensors? I bought both new sensors from the autozone but couldn’t find a solid RU-vid to watch someone else do it first. Thanks for any insight

I haven't tried replacing them myself, but I know someone who is an expert at it. His name is Steve Clark, owner of several Prowlers and has swapped them out many times. He goes by the name DublinOH on prowleronline.com. If you are not already a member, I would highly suggest joining so you can chat with him directly. I didn't mention the sensors in this video I did last year because at the time I wasn't aware they could fail, but I have since learned they can, as I mentioned in the first video I did this year for my Road Trip series back in April. In that video I also provide a link to a video another owner did showing the install, and also how my local dealer replaced mine before I took my long road trip.

Patrick: Thanks for putting out these informative videos I do have a question about the door panels you have a yellow section in the middle of your door panels Can those panels be removed separately without removing the whole door panel I would like to remove this panel on both doors can you comment on this issue I am just getting one of these beautiful vehicles delivered this Tuesday from Florida I am not to far from Uri in Toronto I am in Whitby 30 miles to the east of Toronto Thanks in Advance Ernie

I added the yellow panels, they came with double sided tape to hold them on which was worthless so i used two stage epoxy to bond mine to the existing panel. I have no plans to remove them but if i did it likely would have a lot of glue residue.

I was thinking about getting a Prowler but these videos are changing my mind. It seems like there are just too many issues with this car. 27:34 - This is probably one of the best reasons to not buy a Prowler.

Hey Pat, I need to replace my "original" tires on my '99 Prowler. Yes they are 23 years old, but they look brand new with only 13,000 miles on them. I know you talked about the [brand] of tires you bought, on one of your videos but I don't remember which video it was. And I need to start looking for new tires. I really love the looks of the Goodyear's thats on there right now but realize they don't make them any more. What 'brand' of tires are available for the Prowler?

It was likely in the video you have replied to (part 5) that I talked about the tires. Mine are Nitto 555's, and they may still be in production as another owner contacted me within the past year about getting a set and he found the same model still available. I picked them because Nitto had front and rear matching treads despite being entirely different diameters and widths, which is not common. Most any car the tread pattern is irrelevant but since you can see more of the tread on a Prowler it's better to find a matching set. Continental may also still have a set like that (several owners have them) but at the time I liked the look of the tread pattern on the Nittos better. Whichever set you get, the ride will be so much better and safer than the original. The car's ride is already rough and the rock-hard Goodyears make it so much worse. By the way I replied to your last comment where you asked how to reach me, and I provided my email but haven't gotten a reply on that one.

I found the Autel sensors on Amazon for $121 and I believe it's for a set of four (4) of them. I dread anyone wrenching on my wheels though. :(

Almost everything I have learned about the Prowler I got from so many POA members who are much more technically and mechanically minded than me. I haven't heard of your specific issue before but chances are another POA member has had the same or similar problem, or know steps to resolve it.

Hi Patrick, I am looking to buy a Yellow Prowler but I noticed yellow paint on the frame. The car title does not show any accidents and the the drivers side door is not perfectly aligned like the passenger door. Also the drivers side window does not go up and down without pulling the window up. Is this a sign that there was an accident and I should look for another prowler. The car is beautiful and I want to buy it but not sure. What would you do???

Any paint on the frame is a bad sign. The body panels were manufactured in a separate factory in Ohio before being sent to the Conner Ave plant for assembly. So no painting took place at Conner. The window not going up is likely a bad regulator which every Prowler could have until they are replaced. Tom Mills makes a great replacement for this, which I still need to get done on mine as a preventative measure, as mine haven't failed yet.

@@patrickomeara9420 Apprecite the reply. The car looks great, i noticed it pulls to the left. I see overspray on both sides of the car so that indicates the car was painted. I want to buy it, but the overspray is telling me to keep looking... asking 26,900 with 26 thousand miles

I’m looking to purchase a yellow 1999 prowler with less then 2,000 miles great condition they want 42 k. Do you think that price is to much?

Most likely yes, it is too much. That's assuming it is like most low-mileage Prowlers that the owner hasn't done much preventative maintenance because of the low mileage. Since you are replying to the episode where I provide all the things I had to do on my low-mileage car, you know there are a lot of things which need to be replaced just because of age. When they say 'great condition', what work have they had done on it? Also get the Carfax report which may also list maintenance updates, depending on where they were done. Dealer visits are more likely to show up on a Carfax report than an independent shop.

That is a high price. But any Prowler is very expensive. Market value for these cars looks to be around $35,000, which is also close to it's original MSRP. It held its value well, that's $35k for a 20yr old car, and it's not like it was a car with a supercar price tag. I've always loved Prowlers, but to me it wouldn't be worth it unless I had enough money that I didn't care.

There is access under the carpet in the trunk to add transmission fluid as well as access to the fuel pump.

Any Chrysler dealer should be able to service them, but when it comes to parts don't be surprised if they will suggest you try to find aftermarket equivalents like I mentioned in this video, as their own network will have almost nothing. I did this video over 2 years ago so no promises on if the parts I showed are still available. My local dealer had a "specialty car" tech that did all the work on my car; he only worked on cars like Vipers, Hellcats, Demons, etc. The dealer owner just happens to be a Prowler owner himself, although I think he rarely drives it as it usually sits in their used car showroom and is not for sale. Sadly as of last year that tech no longer works there, and I haven't had any serious work done on mine since then. I don't know if they have or will replace him with another dedicated specialty car tech; nowadays they have trouble finding any help, so I plan to do my own research to find a new tech at a different dealer if necessary. I would suggest doing the same to be prepared if you haven't found the car yet.

You'll get different answers from different Prowler owners. I prefer to have them because I think bumpers are necessary and I'm ok with how goofy looking they are. Other owners either see no benefit or hate them enough to think it is worth the risk to remove them. If safety is a priority to you then keep them on.
