I just started my own concrete buisness. I worked for another guy for 5 years then decided to go out on my own. Your video on when's the right time to start your own buisness gave me the last bit of courage I needed. Thank you for all the videos you post, I really appreciate you.

I want to start a concrete business but I've never done it as a job just a few times here and there. If I started small, like shed pads on the weekends, would it be something I'd be able to do or is it necessary to work under someone?

one thing I always tell my guys is to not let the power washer on the pad, I've seen it vibrate a hole in the slab b4

That's the difficult part of going into business or already being in business. Keep looking, maybe a graduating senior from High School or someone in a Vocational community college. Check with their guidance counselors and see if they know of someone looking for a job.

I've sure learned a lot watching you. This is a pretty simple question: Do you worry about picking up dirt on your boots when you step out of the concrete to the dirt and back in again? Or do you take the boots off?
@MikeDayConcrete
@MikeDayConcrete 2 года назад
We try to make sure we don't track dirt onto the floor when we're finishing. We don't change boots but do knock off any dirt before we step back on.

What exactly is the difference between a Fresno and a bull float? Ive finished concrete and used a Fresno but I've noticed some people use nothing but a bull float. I guess when should you use one or the other is what I'm trying to ask.
@MikeDayConcrete
@MikeDayConcrete 2 года назад
Bull float is for right after screeding. Fresno is for a little later when you begin to finish.

I see 💰 💵 in that job for sure. Do you seal all of your jobs? Also how many people are on your crew? What’s the biggest job you’ve done?
@MikeDayConcrete
@MikeDayConcrete 2 года назад
We seal a lot of them but not all. Crew size varies depending on season from 3 to 6 usually. Biggest pour was 1000 yard slab, it was about 30,000 sq. ft.

@dementus420
@dementus420 2 года назад
House slabs usually seem to turn out to be the most difficult pours in my personal experience. Plus, we never seem to have people who can pull mud properly while we skreed. That always makes things harder.

Why is your rebar at the bottom of the slab? My understanding is that it needs to be in the center of the slab to be effective. Shouldn’t you put some risers/spacers under it to suspend it?
