I have a lot of nostalgia with this channel too!! I loved watching shows like Kappa Mikey, Wayside, and Random Cartoons, and I always thought the bumpers and those "how to draw X character" shorts were really neat.
You make excellent points. Nicktoons Network was a good part of my childhood. The more I watch these old commercials, the more I look back and still think of being in the basement at my old house spending time in the morning and in the afternoon on the channel. What needs to happen is to rename the nicktoons channel called “nicktoons nation”. Whenever a nicktoon comes on, they should make a nickelodeon logo of that character during an episode to add more creativity.
Seeing you talk about things like this made me realize just how grateful I am that I grew up with expanded cable. I was introduced to so many great shows both old and new on these channels, not just Nicktoons Network and Boomerang, but also Toon Disney, HBO Family, Noggin, and Discovery Kids. The channels may be gone or heavily rebranded, but my fond memories will live on forever.
Loved the original Nicktoons Network back in the day. Not only did they air ALL of the OG Nicktoons that everyone loved 24/7, but they also had great original content as well as creative and stylish branding. It’s a damn shame that Nickelodeon went through that massive rebranding because Nicktoons Network felt like the perfect throwback channel for Nickelodeon fans
I didn't get Verizon cable until around 2008 which was when nicktoons rebranded to have more action shows and anime, I remember watching invader Zim, dbz Kai, and iron man armored adventures along with some of the catdog and some of the power rangers shows and avatar, it was a great era that sadly won't be replicated now that nicktoons is just a graveyard channel now.
Seeing those old "Three Headed Monster" bumpers hit like a truck. I love the aesthetic of that era of Nicktoons Network and it's always stuck with me since I grew up watching it. Kappa Mikey, Secret Show, Edgar & Allen, and The Presenters shorts were my favorites of the shows exclusive to it. Bums me out, though, that the late 2000s/early 2010s turned into more of a Nickelodeon 2 rather then it's own thing. Especially since, despite the motto being changed to "Not just cartoons, Nicktoons", they started putting non-Nicktoon shows like Power Rangers, kids animes like YuGiOh and Digimon, and live-action shows they'd either be airing on the main channel or TeeNick on the channel.
I love and find it fitting how the background music is from Attack of the Toybots, my personal favortie Nicktoons game for the sheer amount of crossovers it has, especially Stimpy, Rocko, GIR, and Jenny being playable characters
All of those bumpers from the mid to late 2000s are nostalgic af I loved watching Edgar and Ellen in 2007 and my grandparents were the only relatives who had NN so I had my grandpa record the new episodes on his DVR and burn them to a DVD for me
I may not have watched a lot of their original shows but I can never forget the times as a kid when I watched Nicktoons Network. The re-runs of regular Nickelodeon shows were always great for me and their creative bumpers and shorts had a lasting impact that I still look back with such fondness and HUGE nostalgia. I honestly couldn't agree more with what you said about what made it so great and their unfortunate demise with the rebranding in 2009
Nicktoons Network was the elusive channel of my childhood. I didn't have TV for large chunks of my childhood. At home, I only had VHS and later DVD. At my grandparents house (were I spent every weekend and most of the summer), they had Nicktoons Network. I loved it!
That was basically the same thing for me but with Boomerang. My family has Comcast which has Nicktoons Networks but not Boomerang. But everytime I visited my aunts cabin I watched Boomerang.
I slept big time on Nicktoons Network, sad to say. It's kinda like how ESPN2 had this identity as "The Deuce" until it basically became just another ESPN channel.
I loved Nick toons network as a kid. It was my introduction to shows that aired before I was born. Stuff like Pinky and the Brain, Kablam, The Charlie Brown and Snoopy show and other shows my older sister grew up with. It also had old seasons of SpongeBob, Fairly Odd parents and Rugrats. No arguing there But their originals were great too! I loved Kappa Mikey, Cat Scratch and Cornel and Burney. But Kappa Mikey was my favorite. In fact I owe a lot to it as Mikey was my partial introduction to anime.
Nicktoons Network was like that forbidden fruit you weren't supposed to enjoy, yet you ate it anyway; I was relatively lucky, my parents didn't have it on their DirecTV Package back in 2008; but my Grandparents had literally every single channel on Charter, so i'd always put it and Boomerang on pretty much every time i visited. Also: that "it was waiting for me to watch while on a vacation" vibe hits hard too, because every single time i went to the cabins up the mountain, it was there; waiting for me.
I grew up with Nicktoons (the rebranded one) and even though I didn't really mind the networks and what they were doing. today I learned the o-mazing ness of Nicktoons network. It kinda makes it to when I want to have grown up in the late '90s instead of the later '2000s.
Yeah this definitely hit different, embodying the 2000s papercraft edgy feel..I loved all the small time independent cartoons they showed in specials and just how kitschy it felt.
Nicktoons Network was The only Time Beside Regular Nickelodeon and Kids WB Where I got to watch the Rest of Ren and Stimpy,Animaniacs and Rocko's Modern Life and Catdog in the Early to Mid 2000's. The Three and Final Season of Danny Phantom and The Fourth and final Season of My Life as a Teenage Robot aired in 2008. And There were more Underrated Classic on the Channel like Yakkity Yak,Corneil and Bernie,Kaput and Zösky, Martin Mysteries,Speed Racer the Next Generation,Kappa Mikey,Three Delivery,Edgar and Ellen,Making Fiends (Ugh !) The Secret Show, The X's,Skyland,Catscratch and many more.
Great video. NickToons Network was amazing growing up, sadly I could only watch it at my grandparents but that sort of made it even more special. I didnt see it decline, just from around 2006-2009. When I stayed over being able to watch cartoons at midnight and late into the morning felt so special and it introduced me to so many older shows like ren and stimpy, angry beavers, rockos modern life.
My family didn't have NN, but my grandparents did. Whenever we went over to visit, my siblings would watch that, HBO, Starz, Jetix in our freetime. I also like to headcanon that Nicktoon Network "Golden Era" was a response to CN City and Jetix and how big they were
I remember coming across this network when I was also on a family vacation. I was astounded and soon I got to to see it when I got back home. I love how you made a similarity to Boomerang and how it relied on old shows. I would record the shows on my DVR and enjoy the memories of Nickelodeon of the old times including some syndicated rerun programming like Animaniacs. I thank you for doing a segment on this!
Bro this video took me down memory lane! Really appreciate the look back. That channel had some of the most inspirational blocks, promos, and shows i've ever seen in tv history. Really makes ya stop and think where have the times gone?
I would wake up every morning to watch chalk zone, cornel and Bernie, secret show, and kappa Mikey every day before school in middle school. And anything I couldn't watch I would record it via dvr
If you haven't already done a retrospective on hey Arnold please consider doing that for the future because I remember watching reruns that show in the early 2000s and it was a really good show have you done a video on the cartoon Network CN city bumpers yet? Thanks
Nicktoons was my favorite cartoon channel, too. They had the best shows. On the cable package that my family had at the time, it was the only channel where I could watch _The Secret Show._
This brings back memories of the FoxBox. How it changed rather quickly and became so corporate like 4kids TV is. I hope that if nBcktoons actually kicks the bucket maybe Nick and the rest of Paramount will too including MTV; they're all the same! By the way was it the same network that had Yu-Gi-Oh and Dragon Ball Z in it? By the way are you going to do a remake of your retrospective of Sonic X?
Yeah, Nicktoons fron 2010-2015 had Dragon Ball Z Kai and GT (a few of the first 13 movies and the bardock special as well), and Yu Gi Oh Zexal/Arc 5 (I think)
I only have Nicktoons because I have a weird cable package that has all the Nick networks for some reason. Now, I started getting cable like sometime in the last decade, but it was definitely after the slide into random marathons of certain shows, but it was at least when it was a variety of shows. They'd even run fun stuff during holidays in the beginning. Now it's just Spongebob or freaking Henry Danger and its even worse spinoffs, and an excuse to shove their TERRIBLE live action programming into the audiences' faces even harder. How do they not care about the sister network YET care enough to use it as a third outlet to bludgeon Side Hustle and garbage like that to make kids like it? That's what Nick basically is now. Shoving something terrible into the tweenage audience they desperately still cling to in their faces over and over and shout "DO YOU LIKE THIS NOW? DO YOU LIKE THIS NOW? DO YOU LIKE THIS NOW?!?!?!" Cable TV is dying a slow death, they can put on ANYTHING in the world on a channel almost no one gets because it doesn't or shouldn't matter. Though, this past Cinco de Mayo they did have a few episodes of El Tigre. At least it's something.
For me nick toons was cool to me around 2004 through 2011 ❤❤ Nickelodeon for comedy cartoons cartoon network for action shows Disney for live action ❤❤😊
They basically sucked all the fun out of Nicktoons Network. AND Boomerang. And, heck, out of every single channel that caters to kids. How come "reruns of cartoons that aren't airing anymore" channels have been phased out? Boomerang, Toon Disney, this... yeah, yeah, I know streaming services are a thing, but not everybody has or can afford them!
I personally liked Drake and Josh and iCarly. Those were the only 2 Nick sitcoms I liked. The Amanda Show was good too but yeah they definitely overdid it later with all the crappy sitcoms.
I feel like something should be noted CN Real was quickly gotten rid of outside of Destroy Build Destroy, Dude What Would Happen, and a few shows that were outside of the block even so by 2013 all of them were gone. Meanwhile Nicktoons has (arguably) gotten worse over the years (pretty much only airing shows from The Loud House and Spongebob universes (looking at the schedule anyways) Also CN Real wasn't a rebrand it was a block of programming (Should note I think it's fine to have your own opinion I was just explaining why I think CN Real wasn't the worse rebrand (Nicktoons isn't even my least favorite (mostly cause I never grew up with this branding) Boomerang is (thankfully they've started to get better)
I swear, unless I'm missing something, you have some extreme bad timing when it comes to your video topics and when somebody else decided to the exact same topic First the Barnyard video, and now this
Nicktoons was alright, but did it have Blue Falcon and Dynomutt? Sing-alongs to the Banana Splits opening? All the old original music interstitials like Musical Evolution with the Pussycats, and Jabberjaw Ska? No? Advantage- Boomerang.
