First time you ride your horse down to Mexico and that song kicks in has to be one of my best video game moments ever! Edit: The song is Far away by Jose Gonzales.
I just finished my first play through of this game. I played RDR2 when I came out but was too young to play rdr1 at the time. Playing it chronologically was certainly a different perspective than most people had playing in release order and I can’t imagine how I would’ve felt when I reached the ending of rdr1 without knowing what would happen at the end
i was only months on my first job after graduating college. my salary went straight to buying ps3 games and playing them. now, 10 years later, adulting is very Real
I replayed this game about two months ago and I fell in love all over again, RDR2 was insanely beautiful and amazing but RDR1 will always have a special place in my heart, I won’t say the story is better or worse because they coincide with each other and are just amazing all around. The graphics still held up to this day
Ik I'm young so I never got to play rdr1 you can imagine how I felt when I got my hands on rdr2 best game Ive ever played hopefully one day I'll get to play rdr1 tho ;(
@@oldarthurmorgan6319 u defo should if u have PS4 u can buy it off the store I think there’s a lot of ps3 and ps2 games u can buy or I think it’s subscription and u get them all for free u should defo play it tho

@@MrThedudejamie The online RDR is far superior than RDR2 Online. No Microtransactions. The Economy in RDR 2 Online is the absolute worst in videogame history
@@imaginarychip4916 I think the gun menu not being altered for PC is insane. It was so damn annoying to use that I just used three guns the entire game.
I’m glad I played this game before getting a real job, getting married or having any other type of serious responsibilities. It allowed me to sink hours into the game and enjoy the heck out of it.
You can still dump hours into a game but just not have like super long sessions, even with my family and work I’m satisfied with 45 minutes to an hour playing a game. Then going on for another hour or 45 minutes when I have time. My memory is pretty good if I stick to one game, can’t play multiple games like before but oh well. Less controls and story to remember.
lol dood i cried at the mission toward the end of RDR2 where you're riding your horse through the mountains with the Native American chief and Arthur starts talking about how he doesn't think he'll ever be able to be forgiven for all of the shit he did. I never expected a video game to literally make me cry and feel like I was actually getting therapy for shit that was bothering me. I was blown away. I don't know if I'll ever play a game with such an emotionally charged story.
Everyone whose soul is still intact was emotionally struck by that game. Even the actor who played Dutch said in an interview he was brought to tears while performing his parts at the end of RDR2
I replayed RDR1 at least twice a year - every year - between 2012 and 2018. That version of John Marston influenced my development as a grown man. The new game hits different, but I'm glad it exists.
I really appreciate the balls for pointing out how the combat in RDR 1 is better than RDR2; even though I know gamers hate to admit that an old game does something better than new game, maybe it's a weird form of justifying their purchase or playtime. But RDR 2 aiming was absolute garbage, especially if you weren't using slow mo. If your just free aiming, it is so catered to using auto aim and had this horrible weapon swaying for the sake of realism, for a Wild West game? The weakest aspect of Rockstar's open world game has always been the shooting controls. They need to grow out of that auto aim garbage and adapt to a more "free aim" play style that's comfortable for the player, RDR 1 and Max Payne 3 are the closest to this accomplishment.
I would say that RDR1’s aiming was kind of a bit clunky as well with its free aim, but yeah I agree that Max Payne 3’s shooting mechanics were the best out of all the Rockstar games in my opinion.
i m playing rdr now and combat feels the same. Animations are just SO good in rdr2. Using mouse and keyboard for aiming is so much better than gamepad. i wish i could use mouse and keyboard for rdr also
@@saruboss18 Yeah but making a port feel better on one system over the other is just lazy game development. There are plenty of games that have proper free aim on console and PC that feel equally as comfortable; even Fortnite, which is one of the most played games on Console and PC has very easy to use 3rd person free aim. Gears of War pretty much created the standard for proper free aim controls back then.
I played both but I think RDR 2 does most things better than RDR1. I totally accept your opinion but the aim in RDR2 and the gameplay is borderline better and I played RDR1 after RDR2, it just feels clunky going back to the old system. And dismissing people's opinion by calling it "justifying their purchase" is idiotic tbh. They purchased the old one too. Arthur, the gameplay, the graphics and gunplay are all really good but I do like the small scale story of 1 and the desert setting.
When I first played RDR2, I felt like I already knew Dutch and Bill from the very first minutes, even though their storie really weren’t explained in the first game.
@Rosa Barks Right. Except in the video he wasn't saying RDR1 has the most realistic shooting in gaming just that he feels it's more realistic than RDR2.
@Rosa Barks Are you even reading my comments, man ? I said the video's narrator stated RDR1 has more realistic gunplay than RDR2 (his words not mine) NOT that it has the most realistic gun play ever. What fucking hill ? I'm not even saying the things you're claiming I'm saying.
The replayability for Cyberpunk is one of the most pathetic things about the game. The whole point is to experience different lifestyles and create your own unique person, and they demolished every bit of that.
@@RainmakerAnton why won't he say literally it's not like literally bad or literally good its literally okay but you said literally and literally so literally you're dumb and sorry but you're literally taking the piss like literally.
RDR is easily my all-time favorite game. Graphics, story, the music (!!!!!!!), sound effects, total immersion. @gameranx nailed it stating that the game is slightly less realistic but ends up being more fun compared to RDR2 and I completely agree. Some of the mechanics in RDR2 are a little too deep to make it casually enjoyable. (having to pet/feed your horse, changing your clothes based on climate/location.. etc) Stuff like that takes you out of the moment and is a distraction.
I played the game on my old ps3 for the first time this year, and even though the graphics are obviously dated, I was amazed at how this game was ahead of it's time. Such a good game! Enjoyed it a lot!
Played it on Xbox series x the upgrade minus still 30fps is amazing. Considering rockstar was original thinking of remastering it until the gta trilogy disaster, this is the best way to play it outside of pc emu
@starscream6629 it would be cool if it had a proper remake. Every remake should stride for Mafia 1 and Dead Space. Those are true remakes. Especially DeadSpace. It kept the story but added new features. Dialogue. Changed certain scenes for a better perspective. The new "peel" machanic Added side missions. Side characters got some more attention. It added a lot. Any REMAKE needs to put in that effort and time.
I remember getting the legend of the west outfit and was hoping to go out in it but nope just in a simple ranch outfit. But John was the first video game character I really connected with
A masterpiece. They took their time with dialogue too, no rushing, a ton of emotions in silence and expressions. Plus multiplayer was super fun until it was hacked to oblivion.
Dunno about that, I've been playing the multiplayer recently on the ps3 and i haven't found many hackers around. Plus, the game still has tons of people playing it.
For me, it was the bugs that spawned people models for animals. You'd just be doing random missions then a bird man would be in the sky or a wild boar woman would be charging you and looking hilarious.
@@thisiswhatgarbagelookslike3864 Agreed, I think they should definitely remake rather than remaster because RDR2 made so many gameplay and visual advancements that just remastering RDR1 would be kind of wasted potential.
I remember renting this game constantly from our local video store (back when they were still around) and playing it for HOURS on end. Later down the road when I got a job this was one of the first games I bought with my own money. Still have the original copy to this day. Xbox 360. When I heard of the prequel coming out, to say I was over the moon with happiness is an understatement lol I’m currently replaying it for the first time in years and the nostalgia is hitting HARD.
Now that my kids are grown, I finally have the PS3 all to myself to circle back and play all the things I’ve missed. I’m playing RDR for the first time and it’s a super good game. I can’t believe how awesome this was for the time. Now I want to find a ps4 so I can play RDR2!
I played like 20% of RDR1 before I stopped playing for whatever reason but i picked up RDR2 yesterday and I'm really invested in the story so far and i love that it's a prequel to 1 so i don't feel like I'm missing anything. Gonna go ahead a replay 1 when I'm done with RDR2
I play on PC and just switched to using joystick on PC, I don't know why but aiming feels super weird to me and it feels so lazy to aim on mouse, I don't know maybe it's just me, both games are masterpiece's
@@menezes1922 I will quote my comment, "I don't know maybe it's just me" , it's MY opinion, I am just saying that aiming feels weird compared to GTA5 and I am PC gamer who sucks on joystick, but I still feel better with joystick than keyboard and mouse in RDR2
@@blazingbroo5849 I actually liked rdr2 gameplay way more than gta 5 just beacuse of the additon of 👍crouching ... I first played rdr2 in controller and I really loved it even though it feels clunky sometimes... But when I played on mouse and keyboard all clunkiness was gone the games combat became the best for me
I remember watching my friend playing this in 2010 and thinking to myself "there's no way this is any fun, there aren't even any machine guns". I bought it a year later and I dont ever remember a time I was more wrong about a game. suchhhh a good game
The gunplay was a really big deal. It was fluid and felt really natural. Also, the way AI reacted to being shot was realistic. If you shot someone in the foot, they would limp rather than just absorb the bullet and continue as normal.
i did it too bro. mine had a horse and this was my favorite tattoo and my favorite game until I played Witcher 3 and got a new tattoo with Geralt and Roach. Now that's my favorite tattoo but I'll always remember RDR#1
I dont think so, its probably nostalgia. And rdr2 was a bit slow because of realistic animations but in everything else it is either as good or better, and to prevent the fact that rdr2 is after rdr1 from making me give it points unfairly . Lets lesve.realism aside. In terms of combat i dont know so i will give it to rdr1, in terms of the story i think its rdr2. Rdr1 story is good but rdr2 has a vastly better one in my opinion. And in terms of the open world experience overall. Rdr2 is better but rdr1 is great for its time. And it probably has an open world experience like rdr2 for its time so its a draw. I agree this comparison is not thorough but i dont wanna delve into the very details. So after all. While rdr1 may not be inferior for its time, its definitely not superior
@@justenjoy9545 Oh, damn. Didn't even consider that it wasn't playable on PS4. My bad. I just bought it on Xbox for $8. Replaying it on my Series S. Kinda just assumed, being as popular of a game as it is, that it would be playable on Xbox and Playstation, both, no problem.
I remember my birthday shortly after the game came out I got the game and a turtle beach headset I booted up my xbox 360 arcade version and rdr and the first thing I remember was me calling my mom in the room to tell her "I can hear the mosquitos buzzing" this was one of my happiest moments from gaming
I've finished RDR like two weeks ago. Did not have a chance to do it before. At first I expected a western version GTA, but as You said, it is different enough to be a unique game. The open world here is just perfect size, not too big but big enough to spend there hours. And the voice acting is on point. For me it was more fun than GTAV and as good as Vice City.
The first one was better than the second one I'm sorry I know that might sound like blasphemy to some, I really enjoyed the storyline better on the first one.
I love how when it comes to rockstar games, people can't just say "hey i loved this game because it was (reason its good)". instead they goes "hey i liked this game, and (a newer version of this game/sequel) sucks because its not (the older version that he likes) but i need to mention it just because".
@@ididntmeantoshootthatvietn5012 No, it needs to be mentioned because everyone is assuming that RDR2 improves on RDR1 in every aspect which is false. It's perfectly fine to say that things were done better in RDR1 so that people can know what RDR2 actually improved and what it made worse. Hiding from criticism is never a good idea. Insecurity isn't a good tool for feedback.
It doesn't matter how many years it has been, this game still my favorite to this day, i must have completed it with 100% at least 12 times, not to mention undead nightmare, or the multiplayer... Simply a gorgeous game that i deeply miss playing.
I think while RDR2 has more relastic animation and shooting feels more satisfying, the stiffness of RDR1's gunplay lends itself to a more fun experience when using free-aim unlike in RDR2 where free-aim just causes shooting to be slow and imprecise.
Agreed, it gave me that cowboy simulator feel that I wanted while playing the first game back when it came out, that's why 2 was the perfect sequel in my opinion, the only thing that was better in 1 to me was the side characters you meet like Seth, Nigel West Dickens, Irish and the Marshall
I like to believe both games and their mechanics ties in to the main characters shooting skill. John was a better shot, not so much a fighter . Arthur was a brute and a decent shot , but I feel like rdr gun mechanics is slightly outdated but look how easy it is to free aim, I like to believe that's johns skill as a gunman . Arthur's is a lot slower but the fighting in rdr2 is better so it makes arthur look like a brute. Get me ? I know mechanical flaws aren't necessarily cannon per say but I mean it's nice to think about
I'm just playing this game now 12 years after the fact I have played undead nightmare but unfortunately the past decade I've been doing with a drug addiction that crippled me. Now I'm married 5 years clean and I have a baby boy that is the light of my life. And I know I'm doing the right thing because few months ago I found an Xbox 360 and a PS3 both in perfect condition in a recycling bin outside my house. I took them both they both work I decided to setup the Xbox instead even though I'm a PlayStation guy and I got Mordor rdr1 Skyrim and fnv wish me luck guys
Red dead redemption. In it's entirety. Should be bigger than GTA. It deserves sooo much more. The graphics. The mechanics. The gameplay. The story. Everything. Red dead 2 is my most favourite game of all time. I've spent nearly 12000 hours on it. If that doesn't scream addicted I don't know what does
I have RDR for 360 via disc. Thing is, I'm on an Xbox Series S now, no disc drive. I actually just went and purchased the game digitally so I could play it again. So I've now bought the game twice. Luckily my Undead Nightmare was already digitally purchased, so I have that already! Can't wait to play the game again. It's one of the few BIG games that I've actually bothered to finish. And I finished the DLC too.
When it comes to red dead twos shooting, if you’re having trouble with the aiming try this. Go to the options menu, find the controller options where the aim sensitivity is, and you’ll find the dead zone slider in that menu. Adjust your look sensitivity accordingly, and hopefully that helps.
When you think everything good there is to say about a video game has been said already... So wrong. This is by FAR one of my all time favorites (in the same level as Mario 64, Donkey Kong country, Zelda OoT, Metal Gear Solid, Goldeneye, etc). This was the one time when I thought graphics, music, story and gameplay merged so perfectly well. Ugh, I absolutely adore RDR and it's infinitely better then RD2.
That moment that John Marston is allowed to go see his family and that song called "Compass" starts playing has to be one of the most emotional and memorable moments in my 20 years gaming experience, pure perfection.
