@Cyberdemon Mike re3, re:cv, remake and zero all released from 1999 to 2002. are they not survival horror? i think you just dont know the saga too well
@Cyberdemon Mike 3 certainly has a more action-like approach, would not call it extreme tbh; still suffers from reused assets from re2, but it is a survival horror nonetheless. same with cv, it is true it has lots of ammo but you can be pretty screwed on a blind first playthrough without knowing about the op knife and the lack of healing items. and zero is dull indeed for a lot of reasons, but still harder than REmake or RE2 and it matches the formula. so yeah, they might have flaws but still they all are definitely in the survival horror genre, and without considering the amounts of resources or the faster gameplay of re3, they all followed the same classic formula (backtrack, route planning, limited saves, save rooms, puzzles and etcetera). only re4-6 fell out of the genre in the mainline.
@@Kumire_921 def doesn't make me dizzy (tho at first I couldn't do barrel rolls in space shooters but I can now) and its the best part of gaming rn period. Play Skyrim or Fallout 4 or RE7 in VR and your mind will be blown.
Thank you Capcom for one of the finest gaming experiences of my life. Horror, action, story, graphics, sound design -- all elements are top-notch and complement each other fluidly. Could not be more hyped for RE8, considering it's going forward with the amazing RE7 aesthetic and first-person formula.
@Cyberdemon Mike, if you look at this game as a soft reboot of the franchise, it’s great. Granted, when I say soft reboot, that is saying that this game will be looked back on more fondly if RE8 sticks the landing as a more Resident Evil type game.
@Cyberdemon Mike nah man ur angry because the fanbase that capcom is appealing to for 8 is the newest horror youtuber fans who enjoy a good scare. The time for resident evil 4 5 and 6 has passed and the same with 1 2 and 3. They re still giving you guys re 4 remake and other remakes so dont feel like theyre ignoring you guys. There isnt just one fanbase anymore and i believe the newest fans are the horror multiplayer group from the looks of re verse. Re 7 and 8 has just about run its course so let us enjoy it while it lasts
I guess it all comes down to how long someone has been following and playing the RE series. For someone beholden to the style of the original games, the newer games and their changes could be contentious. But considering RE7 was my introduction to the series, I couldn't help but love it. And even though I appreciate what the older games did and respect the love that people have for them, I have to admit it is harder for me to really get into those now.
I'm a little worried about the witches (think they're witches 🤷🏻♂️) and tall lady. From what we have see that come across a bit goofy compared to what we have in RE7.
I enjoyed the game thoroughly. Though, my major criticism is that the tension and fear is largely absent in the second half of the game. The first segment, up until you get to the boat, is phenomenal.
@Cyberdemon Mike to each, their own, i suppose. I specifically thought of the mines when i was considering the worst part of the game. I'm not saying its objectively bad, just my least favorite part. It was generic to me. The haunted house parts were the best. Pure tension.
I think personally, RE7 thrives on the horror relatable to Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Silent Hill at first, but made a very great transition into Resident Evil Lore on the boat, and finished with a kicka** mines sequence. If felt pretty complete if you ask me. Enemy variation was my only real complaint. I wasn’t a big fan of the Lucas section, but that’s because the rest of the game was very memorable to me. I really loved this game and the 1st person didn’t bother me.
My favorite out of the Bakers is actually Lucas and I feel he is the most horrifying one when he tortures his victims and is more sadistic then Jack or Marguerite.
@@JuanHernandez-qb6rx happened with my dad when jack busted through the wall in vr. He was sitting while playing and fell off his chair in fear while we were at a mini family gathering. Everyone had a good time and most of us werent even the ones playing the game!
Yeah I had already played through the game twice without vr. AMD then like 4 more times in vr plus all the dlc which I loved. This game has incredible replayability value. Its easily my favorite in the series even though I'd adored 1 and 2 far prior to this games release. Great work Capcom.
Also, there's a theory that Ethan worked for Umbrella or something similar. This came from the name "Ethan W" appearing in a note that can be found in re5 just before fighting the Excella boss.
I can write a master thesis on how much i love this game. The atmosphere, new interesting characters (Ethans blurred face adds perfectly to the ongoing biohazard mysteries) and story was a perfect reboot/sequel for the series. Capcom was also really generous with the DLC and extra story content it game us, especially the "daughters" DLC. i hope VIIIage also gets their equivalent of the "daughters" DLC in which we'll see the origins of the tall lady, Heisenberg and her 3 vampire sisters/daughters.
@Cyberdemon Mike All valid arguments, but i like to see it from a different point of view. RE7 also takes inspirations from more modern horror classics like Ringu, The Grudge, Rob zombie movies and the evil dead series. I can make an argument that the little evil "ghost" girl that's entirely made possible due to hallucinations is "lame" in a way. It takes indeed inspirations from modern horror tropes like jumpscares and first person view, but i like to think it works really well in the RE universe. I think it's a perfect blend between horror and action because you are an average civilian fighting his way trough because capcom wanted it to be "you", especially in VR.
Playing through this game in VR for the first time is my favorite videogame experience I've ever had. It set it above all the other main entry titles in the series for me.
Just recently beat 7 on game pass. This was my first resident evil that I beat entirely, gonna get the remasters while waiting on village, can’t believe I slept on these games that long

So I don’t get why or how these RU-vidrs keep saying RE lost a lot of fans going the action route when the sales showed otherwise. Just because those that did enjoyed RE5 and RE6 are not as vocal doesn’t mean Capcom took RE in the wrong direction, but you know what they say: the squeaky wheel gets the oil.
The lack of enemy variety, the over the top, almost supernatural story as well as the highly scripted encounters turned me off. I appreciate the "back to the roots" approach, but it could have been done differently. As of now, the Resident Evil 2 Remake is the pinnacle of great survival horror if you ask me.
How can you slam RE7 and then praise the RE2 Remake in such a way? That Remake had almost no difference between the scenarios, unlike the original. Knocks huge points for me although I still love the game. RE2 OG and RE Remake are both superior to RE2 Remake.
Not the first RE that is played in first person, Resident Evil: Dead Aim (2003), Resident Evil: Survivor (2000), Resident Evil: Survivor 2 - Code Veronica (2001), Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles (2007), Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles (2009), Resident Evil: Code: Veronica (2000) and Resident Evil: Deadly Silence (2006) all used first person.
Haven’t played RE since the PS2 days but I seen RE8 trailer and new I had to look into it again. Re7 and all of its dlc is $20 at GameStop ima buy it and play before the new comes out
I want to buy the game but I’m a re4 guy and I just feel like re7 wouldn’t be as good since it’s first person do you get used to it and do you think it’s worth the money?
I just finally played RE7 through for the first time over this last week and wow what a game. Moved right on into the DLC and will then move right into the RE8 demo.

RE7 is the game responsible for getting the series back to it's survival horror roots, it deserves the praise. There were subtle hints that capcom was slowly finding their way with resident evil revelations 2, but with RE7, they just fully embraced it. I don't know who in capcom woke up one morning with the idea on how to get this series back to the way it belongs, but whoever they or the group of people are that's responsible for it, they're the real heroes, word up.
Started back in the day when I got RE0 on the GC and slowly the franchise became my favourite of all time. Lost hope after the atrocity that RE6 is and honestly didn't think we would see another great RE again. Boy was I wrong. After a couple of Madhouse rounds and more than 20h just on the magnificent DLC's I can say for certain that RE7 topped RE4 and RE Remake for me and currently stands in my top 10 greatest games ever. But, May might change things a little bit.
I am potentially going to get a bit of hate from this, but it became my number one favorite Resident Evil game ever. Especially after playing it in VR. Highly, highly recommend it. It truly strengthened my opinion about the game.
Re7 is my favorite game and favorite re. So good and in vr even better but the 2d works very well too. And now after seeing a bit more about re village I am so excited!
I think it was a smart move by Capcom to make RE 7 an FPS which re-invented the series. You could compare RE 4 to U2's musical style career changing album Achtung Baby which was great, RE 5 to U2's Zooropa which was good and RE 6 to U2's Pop which was not so good. RE 7 was the comeback game for the series in the same way that U2's All that you can't leave behind was a comeback album for them. Very similar trajectory.
I don't really understand the gripe about a lack of enemy variety. The big bad was Eveline. Eveline produces the molded. She doesn't produce other types of enemies. I'm not sure what other types of enemies could possibly be in this particular game. With that said, there are different types of molded, at least. I think that's pretty much as far as they could go as far as "different types of enemies" were concerned. Their hands were tied.
VII is my favorite and I played them all since psx days. I really think it would have sold better if people weren't so scared to play it. I really hope that Capcom increased the scare factor in Village further but something tells me they dulled a bit to appeal to a broader audience
Resi 7 was one of my favorite games of the 8th generation if not for the only reason being that it made me love the Resident Evil series again. I seriously though the series was dead after 6.

I was hesitant to play it when it came out, the setting and first person perspective turned me off. But I bought it last week and just finished it, totally loved it. It's still a RE at its core, with puzzle and exploration like the older titles. And yeah, the story makes sense in the universe at the end
@Cyberdemon Mike yeah, the blue umbrella thing was a bit weird, but the main storyline kinda ended in RE6. It was time for a fresh start. And the ghost thing was an hallucination from a bioweapon witch it's the whole point of the series. On the other hand, Village does seems a lot more supernatural and that's not cool.
@Cyberdemon Mike of course they wanted to pull a horror movie plot, but at the end it was all explained, it made sense within the game universe. Resident evil 4 was far more far fetched, with a medieval castle with gigantic robots and still was a beloved game. Wesker is dead, the story needs to move on and personally I like the isolated incident plot more than the neo umbrella apocalypse from the last games.
The only thing I did not care for in RE 7 was the same unkillable enemy kept coming back. It was more annoying that horror themed. Oh look, Jack is back again and he patrols everywhere. Time to dump a few rounds into his face and go around him. The first 3 RE games didn't really do that. Yes, they had a few (keyword- few) Tyrant moments but nothing like RE7. Here's to hoping they don't overdo it in RE8.
Been replaying It and It is a great horror game. I'm not a fan of playing with a faceless character, and the fps camera never was something I wanted for the series but, the story is fine, just not as craxy as all the other games, the lack of any of the established characters, up to the end, was also something that held me back for a pessoa while until I decided tô give the game a chance. But even with all that, when put on the tablet, RE7 is a great game, both horror and survival, just the lack of more crazy monsters is a problem.
Survival horror is what Resident Evil should've kept focus on, not some Fast and The Furious action stuff like 6 does which almost abandoned the Survival horror genre.
The fact that there was only one enemy type wasn't really a flaw in my opinion. It made sense narratively. You weren't fighting against a corporation with a city-sized underground laboratory creating genetically engineered weapons. You were dealing with a family basically making monsters in their basement. There were different kinds of Molded, but the fact that they were the only monsters made perfect sense.
I def didn't give this game a fair go when it came out, git it on sale with all the dlc for cheap and MAN, I did the same thing with RE4 as I didn't trust Capcom till I actually played it, and was blown away!!!..
As someone who platinumed re7 and probably beat it around 10 times, I think the game is great overall however I always dread the boat section near the end. It’s a little bit boring but I think the underground section after is more fun.
I always looked at the boat section as the “I should find out as much as I can about the lore” section of the game. Enemy variety would’ve really made the boat less boring if I had to be critical. Like the alligators in the End of Zoe DLC would’ve made this section much more interesting, albeit a little cheesier too.
This game gave me a headache...I could not continue as my brain could not understand the constant harassing of monsters tha simply do not die...I hope to one day build up the courage to hop back in to the game...
Interesting take on RE4 not being scary. Maybe I am just more susceptible to horror, but the first time playing through? Scared the **** out of me! Took me months to beat the game because I had to take frequent breaks lol (same with RE7!) I agree though, that once you "mastered" RE4 gameplay, by the time you get to final act/location, it's way heavier on the combat, less on survival aspect.
Well it wasn't due to a wide variation of enemy types, that's for sure. Leech creature after leech creature, after leech creature after one HELL of a lot more leech creatures. Split up by some admitably awesome boss battles with the baker family. The constant, boring leech enemies are the only detraction, a 9/10 game that otherwise would've been a 10/10. Still love the game despite all my moaning. It just wasn't perfect and it certainly could've been.
This game always gave me a heart attack. Not that I've ever played it, I just saw clips of it. But now that I've seen them, I will definitely not try playing it. If Resident Evil is running out of ideas, then they should just retire before there game career goes down the drain. Just like what's happening to Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and Disney.

RE7 definitely is one hell of a game. Personally, while I am a big fan of Survival Horror games, I am one of the rare people that finds the Resident Evil series to be one of the most overrated Horror games out there. I have played (and enjoyed them) many classics like REmake and RE4 (and a bunch of others), but I always found them as poor excuses for horror games. Story and Characters can affect my experience with horror games and Resident Evils stories and characters are so badly written and feel so out of place in a horror setting (the story are more fitting for B-movie action films) that they end up taking me out of any horror the games try and get me into. However, Resident Evil 7 is so far the only game in the franchise that I would call an actual good horror game (even put it in my top ten horror games), while there are defiantly flaws in the story it is still 100 times better written compared to other games, the game does have its goofy moments, but they are mostly tied to the Bakers and for crazy people, I expect that kind of stuff, and while Ethan is pretty one dimensional the fact that he is basically an average person much like a Silent Hill protagonist, he is honestly way more relatable compared to any of the main cast of the Resident Evil series.
Played RE7 on PS5 from the PS+ collection and personally felt this game wasn’t that great. Ethan is a boring protagonist, enemies lacked variety, scares were expected, movement is so slow, and I can list some more reasons. The only somewhat interesting thing to me was the twist with the antagonist, but most of the boss fights were pretty lame, especially the final boss.
Resident Evil 7 is perfect horror just like RE1 and Silent Hill2 and yes only these tree are perfect.Next in the line is Alien Isolation and Amnesia...
Tbh re 4,5 and 6 make sence I mean Leon would have elite training after raccoon City he builds his skill set over the years so by re6 of course he knows how to be a BADASS don't agree that it makes a good game but makes sence
I felt it had a brilliant first half, but the second half descended into more formulaic territory. Silent Hill 2 still tops my list of horror games, personally. Alien Isolation second.
