He is one of the reasons why I decided NOT to go into university. Why risk having archaic lectures that suck when I could watch a refined and rated video instead. @@greenyxd7298 The purpose of college was never to imbue its students with knowledge. It is the assurance that a graduate has knowledge. It makes the risk a company takes lower. In most countries (and even more so today), you could learn everything a college would teach from publicly available material, but you can only obtain that paper, that confirmation, by paying a university. Doesn’t make it any less dumb of a system, especially today, but personally, I will play the game for now, and hopefully I win something nice for myself.

In spite of how humble you tend to be about this, I think you are leading the charge in the most important advancement of math and science education. After recently returning to school for my masters, I am convinced that the biggest hurdle in learning is not the supposed difficulty of a subject but rather the quality of the explanation. Everything you've done with this channel has dramatically increased the quality and accessibility of educational resources and should ultimately lead to a deeper and more widespread understanding of math and science. Wonderful! A quick note to those who didn't 'win' the contest: I actually watched most of the SoME2 entries this last month, and the videos that I most enjoyed and provided the most value to me in my field (physics and engineering) didn't get a mention in this video. Not that I disagree with the winner list - they are all fantastic! I just wanted to give a shoutout to the non-winners and encourage creators to keep creating. I'm a University professor and I've shared many of the SoME2 entries with my students and colleagues. So whether or not a video made the 3b1b list, it is likely that someone out there was enlightened and inspired by it! Also, I encourage everyone to leave appreciative and supportive comments on the videos you enjoy. Especially for younger channels, the act of a stranger on the internet showing appreciation is incredibly motivating. Cheers to Grant and this channel for accelerating the rise of top-notch educational content on RU-vid!

Aside from being a great way to boost math videos in the yt algorithm, I think the community that sprouted around SoME has been really positive and engaged. Thanks you so much for hosting these Grant, the amount of genuinely inspiring and informative maths content that's been on the platform as a direct consequence of your actions is insane! I remember a while ago I was worried I was "becoming ignorant" since I felt I'd not learnt much in a few months. I was worried I'd lost my drive or ability to learn new things. However, recently I've learnt so much from the SoME2 videos its like I've entered a completely new phase in my understanding of mathematics! Many of the videos have provided crucial visual / intuitive explanations for the maths I'm currently using in my university courses, and the rest have been inspiring peeks into the maths I've not (yet) come into contact with! Bar specifics, I'm sure I'm not alone in the general positive impact your videos and these competitions have had on my learning (and hence my life as a whole). So once again: thank you so much! Edit: thank you to James as well!

I think it's a testament to this effort that I got recommended some _bad_ math videos. There has to be quite a large number of videos to begin with for this to happen, and it requires creators taking chances and "putting themselves out there". It's only when you start seeing bad ones that you know people are really encouraged to create!

While it is fun to get some nice recommendations I'd like to stress how many good entries were actually submitted, and how many good entries that could not make it into this video. In fact, I've seen some really nice entries this time around that didn't make it to the top 100. And at least one of them was so good that I was genuinely shocked to learn it didn't make it to the manual review stage (but I won't say which one I'm thinking of, so you'll have to look for it yourself in the SoME2 playlist :)). And I agree with Grant that I found the non-video entries this time around of generally quite high quality, so they should definitely not be ignored.
