The Church emphasizes the importance of charity as the virtue that perfects us and unites all other virtues. Comparing a good person to a good knife, Father explains that fulfilling our purpose through charity is essential. Charity, unlike other virtues, directly connects us to God and must be the driving force behind our actions to truly lead a life of holiness.

Our purpose is not to reach Heaven - that is the reward for having fulfilled our purpose: 'Well done, faithful servant, come take possesion of the Kingdom which was prepared for you since the Foundation of the world'. Our purpose, in this life, is to know our heavenly Father and to 'serve' Him as loving children so as to enjoy His company for all eternity, in the next. Striving to be good does not make a man good: ACTING in a manner worthy of our heavenly Father, who is PERFECT does - like Christ did. To strive means that you are actually short of doing something... But in order to make it into Heaven, you have to already BE a saint at the moment of death. I'm sorry, this is not a Catholic sermon: it's Lutheran at best - and the problem is Grace... If Grace is not 'efficient' IN AND OF ITSELF, then Man CANNOT be saved - it's that simple. He will 'try' ...but ultimately fail. Real sanctification is so far removed from what Man is capable of undertaking that he will never even take the first step on the Path if left to his own devise. Man needs more than 'a little help' from God to be saintly: he needs the courage to take the initial step in the right direction - and that courage can only come from the Holy Ghost, who is the source of Perfection because He IS Perfect, dwelling in him through Grace.
