The only reason I'd love Zero Command is because it would serve as a built in Empire Warlord faction hard mode, as ZC would have around the same amount of starting planets as the Hapes, but in a more difficult starting position. The strategic challenge would be pretty cool imo. I think I have a word doc on my computer somewhere breaking down ZC as a faction. I'm such a fucking loser ass nerd lmao.

Try some of the later GCs with EA then. Era 3+ They should offer something more akin to a ZC start.

Corey and this teams should follow their plans for their planned factions first and when they finally reach in a couple of years or in 10 years their goals, then they can add more factions, but for now you guys should become Patreons and support him and his teams with their amazing work.

Watching these in depth looks at the philosphies behind TR and FotR make me all the more curious about what Imperial Reign could look like. Presumably it'd be the Rebellion that's fractured and has various subfactions/cells that the player could try to unify (Mon Mothma, Onderon Partisans, CIS holdouts, ect.) We'll only know once the devs finish their current plans with TR, FotR, and Revan's Revenge - So we'll probably see around 2030.

I think Zero Command would work very well if it included units like the Terror Troopers/droids from Force Unleashed II, and if they generally used droids a lot for force projection (ties in to their using Droid TIEs as their main fighters, I think). I quite like the idea of them having a bit of a brutal, run down theme to tie in to Harrsk's madness.

I really love to see Zero Command happen. Their uniqueness should be that they use modified versions of imperial designs. Like the Shockwave, the ISD 1.5 or the ISD II with the additional ion cannon loadout.

I personally LOVE that you guys stay close as possible to the lore and hope you don't stray from that. Now what I do wish is that we can get more specialized infantry units. What I mean is maybe on Kashyyyk we can get Wookie soldiers? Or instead their Airship was neat too. Neimoidian infantry or whatever on Cato Neimoidia. Basically things like that. I guess it depends if there's a unit cap. So you can only recruit 2x Wookie soldier's. That way they don't become the next grand army. Either way 10/10 mod and I can't wait for what your team comes up with next!

One thing i would love as a gameplay mecanique is some unlockeable unite type that comes with recruitable hero. The choice base for empire leader is very enjoyable for the narrative. Good job😊👍

One think I would love to have in the mod is the option of cross faction ship building. For example if you invade Mon acalamari and build a certain structure you get acces to there ships.

We try very hard to make factions have unique playstyles, which is why we avoid doing this.

If we get all the planned factions, I still see a few factions that would deserve their own playable slots: Warlord Nuso Esva, Vagaari Empire, Mandalorians, and Zero Command. Warlord Nuso Esva and Vagaari Empire can make Unknown Regions more interesting. Everyone loves the Mandalorians and I think it's a mistake to skip them as a playable faction in Thrawn's Revenge. Zero Command is the last missing major warlord who isn't playable and he is too big for Legitimacy mechanic. ZC also have Dominion and Megador as perfect reward for integration. Of course, if we get Zero Command, people will want the Ciutric Hegemony or Prentioch's Dominion as the next playable warlord faction. :D

I've listened to the entire video and both understand and respect the approaches that you and the team take to decide which factions make the cut. That being said, would pay all two dollars I have to my name for Mandos in Thrawns Revenge. I love playing the smaller "what if?" Type factions and making them a massive superpower by the end of the game.

I wasn't expecting the Nagai and Tof to get a shout-out, though I'm mostly just happy that the Space Dinos will be playable in the future for TR. As for FotR, I remember there being talk about possibly expanding the mod's scope to include some pre-Clone Wars scenarios involving Republic Judicial Forces. I'd be very interested to know if such plans are still on the table, even if it's probably still a long way out from being actively worked on.

I can definitely agree with your opinion about this. May you make a video where you introduce how to create submods with new playlable Factions? I tried it several times but I’m always confused which xml files I have to create / manipulate / etc. That would be really awesome.

I thought 3.3 was going to ruin the mod but i was very wrong. I don’t like the fact that the new republic and empire are on parity in era 7 as the new republic as it was stronger than the empire and much larger. Im looking forward to seeing fleshed out independent faction they don’t need to be playable maybe even alternate leaders for factions and such. Edit For republic at war I’m dying for a cis holdout map or even a kaminoans rebellion to go along with it. Empire vs cis is just so cool.

Are there any potential factions that wouldn't meet most of this criteria, but are so important they couldn't really be ignored? If so, how do you deal with that? If Revan's Revenge ever ventured further into Old Republic history, I can't help but think the Order of Revan and the Eternal Alliance would be problematic to implement. They barely hold a couple planets each, and neither really have any unique space units, but both are so important to that era of time, so I can't see it being easy to work around them. Same for the Mandalorians in Imperial Reign. Pretty important narratively, but don't really have much to work with.

I think there are some compromises that could expand the roster in interesting ways while providing some of the missing elements people often ask for. For example, Mandalorians and a criminal faction. As you say, they have a wide roster of potential heroes, a fair bit of territory if all added together (Something like 8-10+ planets, though a lot of it would be discontinuous), and numerous potential units, on top of being a major staple of the galaxy, but individually they're just a bit lacking. If you wanted to add these groups, the way to do it might be to conglomerate elements of them with government mechanics. For example, the Mandalorians have a long history of deep criminal connections - Just slapping them together with the Consortium or Black Sun or Hutts wouldn't follow, but that doesn't mean combining them is impossible. For example with the Dark Empire overhaul and legitimacy system, you've showcased the possibility of having multiple factions compete to unlock a wider roster of units. This sort of thing, implemented in a different way, could allow you to have multiple groups (Like Mandalorians, Zsinj, Maldrood, and the Hutts, since they all have known criminal/pirate connections) to unlock additional units and heroes while competing amongst themselves. In the same way Zsinj has his special ZC legitimacy group, separate that from Imperial legitimacy and expand it into another cross-faction system with different mechanics for gaining/losing. What I'm getting at is that while a direct addition as a full faction may be tenuous for certain groups, it may be a mistake to view everything as hardline faction-or-not, especially for such popular groups as the Mandos.

i will love to se more mando units, on my campain i got a mando focus fleet but i will like to have more units space and make that fleet an especilist fleet. maybe like the mecanic on fall of the republic that gives some unids on kuads contract, having mandalore at 10 influnce

Would be interesting to have a tool that eases the process of making your own custom faction(s) and use it in skirmish and from the ashes. Figure it would have to be balanced still, so no having literally every ship in every roster ever, figure maybe have a points list and each ship needs a certain amount of points per build option???

hey, i think the sii ruuvi's largest ship is broken because despite blasting the concussion missile batteries for a while they just didnt die, I have recordings of them being strange if you'd like. Also i stole them so that i could win the battle without losing half my fleet because they went for my ship's engines first and i play with missiles going through shields. also they were so close to destroying my NR lucrehulk but i prevented that from happening by the skin of my teeth, it was scary because i really like the NR lucrehulk

Silri's... "cult" (let's go with that), which is what happens at the end of Empire at War: Forces of Corruption, we do know that Petroglyph wanted to create a faction like that, but I don't recall what they would give them, presumably some kotor sith empire units. They aren't really fleshed out in anything, as far as I can tell, so there isn't much to work with, it is troublesome that we _can't even know where the faction would be in a GC,_ because we don't know what that planet is. Perhaps she could be an "ally" type of roster extension, like the Zann Consortium is? But I don't know who she would ally with, not the Zann Consortium, obviously, so not Zsinj, and I feel like she would not work with imperials if given the opportunity, given how they were her jailers and oppressors for years, so I don't know... who would a nightsister, who has some delusion of conquering the galaxy with an army of outdated soldiers and ships, side with?

Empire Reborn could get more planets if we assume their "survival" until the Marka Ragnos crisis. They can have quite a few unique units with workable models (some, like Hazard Troopers, for example, may be tank-like infantry, like Dark Troopers in the original FoC). The problem is unique space. They have one unique hero ship, but the rest we see are Dreadnaughts and ISDs. Maybe they could use some resources from the Sith faction in Revan's Revenge, as Ragnos cultists would probably like to unearth and use ancient Sith equipment. Their basic troop unit could be the Merc seen in most Cult-related missions in the game, with a cultist officer, with actual stormtroopers being a more expensive unit.

I agree that the Empire Reborn could be a good faction, but I would personally see them more as an alternative progression line for the Empire post Era 5, in the same way Isard/the Committee works. Alternatively, lore from Jedi Outcast does say that the Empire Reborn was allied with Harrsk and other Remnant groups in the Deep Core, as well as those in the Outer Rim. Frankly if the team ever wanted to make a Zero Command faction, the Empire Reborn, Second Imperium, and Kaarenth Dissention could all plausibly be rolled together under the umbrella of Zero Command, since they were all vaguely tied up together. At any rate if Zero Command is ever added, it would allow for an array of heroes, and starts at least as late as era 7.

So, once you're all done adding the priority factions, is there not just an opportunity to add otherwise "Minor Factions"? Or will you relegate that to a community effort to maintain this desire to have otherwise "repetitive" factions? Cause like, I feel like, an aspect missing here for lesser factions like Zero Command would be starting position and difficulty. Yes, it is repetitive to add another Warlord Faction, but people simply want them for more than just an overly unique roster and otherwise. Simply having them be difficult starts appeals to people, that and where said position is really adds to a faction being palatable to some. That and people do enjoy a tad bit of Roleplay/LARP when it comes to playing the factions, even if the roster change is minimal between them. I see your point on not wanting them added on your own end as Developers for EAWX, given the focus is on having diverse factions that fit the intended narrative of what you want Thrawn's Revenge which makes sense. I just wish we could see an incarnation of Zero Command beyond the single campaign, or even the Dissension since they are just a direct mix of the Old Republic and Empire, which could be expanded loosely, into incorporating otherwise unseen equipment from the Clone Wars such as the Maelstrom-Class, or AT-HT, etc.

Perhaps off topic, but it seems to me that 12 cycles for one year is too little for a smooth transition between eras, the situation in the galaxy does not keep up with the history, but this is purely my opinion. Also it seems to me that CSA, PA, Hapes Consortium are too aggressive and it do not quite fit into the history of the universe, especially Hapes Consortium sometimes just have to fight them instead of the Empire or New Republic, it would be good if in the second era of the New Republic added the possibility of integrating them into the New Republic as it is done in the Zsinj campaigne.

It does feel as though the era progression is a bit weird. On my latest campaign starting from era 1, it seemed like I was waiting forever for Era 3 to come so I could integrate certain heroes, but then next thing I know it's Era 7 instantly. I don't know if the NR should get integration in the same way as the Imperials, it doesn't quite fit them, but it could use a few other mechanics. I've said before, but maybe they should be able to unlock certain heroes and units from conquering specific planets, or some heroes being added based on the era, or new government council slots being researchable over time. For example say you conqure Phaeda, you can unlock Mirith Sinn and Kir Kanos as heroes, but lose Kanos as a hero if Carnor Jax dies. Just something to mix the NR up a little, it's in need of a similar overhaul that the Empire/Warlords got.

It would be fun to have pirates present on some maps in space and ground as 3rd party forces. While they wouldn't rate a galactic presence, there were plenty of them who could field small to mid size capital ships or squadrons of fighters. They could be set to attack either side or be a capturable that gives you their units or the option to hire some units as mercenaries. Personally I've been thinking that, as much work you guys have put into ground maps, with the new capturable in the last few releases, and the field bases for additional units, it would be awesome to see some of those elements in space maps in some fashion. You could have independent trade posts that work like capturable mines for example. Another thought is just to have civilian or 3rd party traffic sometimes present on the map. idk if it would be workable, but maybe you could have refugee rescue missions where you have to protect civilian ships until they escape, kinda like those supply missions you made in FOTR but instead of targets to kill, it's protect until a timer runs out? Nothing to say on factions cause I honestly just agree with your position on them. In fact I'm particularly happy you do it the way you do because it's how I'd do it too if I had the ability. I love seeing all the deep lore get worked into the big net!

an interesting idea, would be to add new-cannon IMP warlords, with Moff gideon and so on, adding new-cannon tech, while yes, it dosent make much sense, since TR focusses on Legends, but it would be a cool tie-in with the newer Mandoverse Empire

Would love to see a video talking over potential new factions for Revan's Revenge. Personally, I'm really interested in the Eternal Empire of Zakuul... However, yes, they start their conquest a little bit later. There's a chance they DID exist around this time, just where building up and preparing for a galactic conquest. But still... I feel like they could be a neat addition to the roster. Even if their territory and such might be a bit... questionable... Like, where is Zakuul located exactly? Wild Space? Cool, where in Wild Space though? Other than Zakuul, what else did they have? Iokath maybe? Which is also located in Wild Space, in the Unknown Regions... So, some form of liberty might need to be handled with them.

Glad to hear playable TR mandos are still a possibility, albeit distant 😁 By the way, how do you get 10 influence on Mandalore in TR? 8 can't seem to get it past 9. I have all ground and space slots filled, and I've chosen the local infrastructure option and not the labor camp or the tax collection agency.

To get the space influence bonus, you need to fully upgrade your space station, and then build: 1. a shipyard 2. a secondary defense station (it can be the cheapest one available to you) 3. either a trade port or a golan colony I or II Once all of this criteria are met, you'll have 1 influence from all ground slots filled, 1 influence from all "space slots" filled, and 2 influence from the local infrastructure.

One idea might be a political UI revamp, maybe focus on Sectors rather than planets. In my ideal world SW:EaW would take a leaf out of Paradox games so it's less about factions as it is about government types, ideological sympathies, material resources and maybe decisions that would organically form a 'faction'.

A lot of the things implied in that aren't things EaW can do, or at least do anywhere approaching well. Control over the UI is minimal. You can't introduce new elements or functions.

@@CoreyLoses That's a shame, I mean unless the UI was wholesale replaced but I'm guessing that might require editing the .exe . Which is a major nono for most companies, I mean unless SW:EaW was considered abandonware (but even then there might be legal issues). Oh well maybe they'll be a sequel one day.

For Cordelians I assume that for a significant chunk of the TR timeline they won’t exist so for era progressives do you plan for revolts to be event triggered?

Basically meaning Hutts + some gunships, which is why as I said in the videos about this that they're better represented as part of the Hutt faction.

@CoreyLoses shadow collective is stronger than the hutt faction, they're a part of a larger conglomeration of Criminal Empires, (Black Sun, Pykes, Crimson Dawn) Mandalorians which their way of life is conflict, and Dathomiri Night brothers & sisters. Hutts don't represent that better in any way shape or form.

Sure you could give the Hutts all the Shadow Collective planets & units/leaders but at that point why even continue to call them the Hutt Cartel when they're more

None of the groups you mentioned is anywhere near having the economy or military to compete with any other factions except the Hutts. They have very little to offer other than a handful of hero options and one or two units on top of what the Hutts have. They don't make sense having a separate faction slot.

@CoreyLoses I'm not suggesting they all get their own separate faction slots.. more like they just add to the roster that would be the Shadow Collective. Mandalore Sector has plenty of worlds and manufacturing, they have Mandalmotors, they have giant beskar forges, their whole thing is making weapons and proving themselves as warriors. It makes no sense to me not to combine all the strengths of the Shadow Collective individual members into one. It adds more flavor and gives them even more of a edge than the Hutts would start with. I mean Zsinj basically has a good amount of territory that would be in the Shadow Collectives, if zsinj had a few less of his starting planets and was given Hutts territories he'd arguably be stronger. That is essentially what the Shadow Collective would be.

Mandalorians being a "what if" faction isn't really a compelling argument against them IMO. Once of the most enjoyable aspects of strategy games is the ability to lead an otherwise limited faction to greater things under your leadership, especially when the odds are against you. Mandalorians have some of the most detailed and expansive lore behind them and realistically, the statement that they are in control of their own sector really is argument enough for them. By comparison, the Corellians really are over-represented at the start of TR, considering they don't really come to be a force until the Second Galactic Civil War. With Mandalorians being present in a major way in the upcoming Revan's revenge, it would be good to see them in a from-the-ground-up weakened state in Thrawn's Revenge. If people only wanted to follow the 'historically successful' factions, why would they play an open-ended strategy game instead of a railroaded, linear simulator? Not at all a critical comment, I'm a huge fan you Corey's work I just disagree and feel this is a missed opportunity, however I appreciate that there are higher concerns like the Vong. I hope this is revisited in the future.

Or the Tof and Nagai, for that matter. Imagine you get the "incoming raid; retreat disabled for 4 minutes" message at the beginning of a very close battle and out comes... 10:46 this thing.

@@CoreyLoses I worded it wrong, didn't mean for it to sound so harsh. What I meant is the space battles mostly consist of lining ships up to shoot at each other. Where as if you see aor there are pirates, space whales, ship yards to capture, cargo ships to capture etc. I love this mod by the way and think you have done an insane job
