I'm glad I demo'd this guitar as this wiring scheme is a bit different than the normal two you typically see for 3 pup Gibsons! 🟢Great deal on This Frampton on My Site: troglysguitarshow.com/product/peter-frampton-phenix-inspired-les-paul-custom-vos-2021-copy/ 🔴Reverb: reverb.com/shop/troglys?_aid=growsumo&gs_partner=Trogly ❓Private Help Sessions: troglysguitarshow.com/help-appraisals/

The song sounds familiar almost like the song Spooky which was more or less a cover by Atlanta Rythm Section originally done by the Classic IV with the same guitarist in both bands. Your either reversing the last two notes or playing a different note.

The reason for the 9 hole weight relief is because Frampton’s 54 was exceptionally light…hard to source exceptionally lightweight mahogany for a non limited production.

Hello, back in 1975 I bought a '71 triple and turned it into a Frampton clone. The tech at the store showed me the diagram for that wiring, told me I could get "H'bucker strat" tones out of it, so I had it done. Kept it for a year and found I didn't have a use for it, so I sold it like a fool for $550 w/OHSC. Then I saw this and now I'm really kicking myself. Oh well, such is life.

I wired my 2 Pickup Les Paul Custom as always out of phase in the middle position. Since the "out of phase" effect is dependant on each pickup's signal you can infinantly vary the amount of "out of phase" sound by adjusting the volume controls. When both controls are set the same the effect is very pronounced, adjust one of the volumes up or down and the effect is reduced. I'm using an early pair of single lead Burstbuckers, I had to modify one of them by adding an independant ground ground lead while isolating the pickup's winding ground, not difficult to do at all. I got the idea from watching "The Riff w Nik Sevigny" as he wired his Korina Flying V the same way.

I have one of the limited run by Epiphone in 2019. It's a fantastic guitar. I have played one of the Gibson's and the only difference I noticed in my opinion the neck profile is a little thinner on the Epiphone which seems to fit what Frampton has noted about the neck being sanded by the previous owner. The body of the original was also sanded to make it about an 1/16-1/8 of and inch thinner. Mine came with the cream poker chip and cream switch cap. Since I could not afford the Gibson I went with the Epiphone version and I was not disappointed. It plays great with some unique tones.

I got one too… But I’m being kind of a dick about it. Because I purchased it as an investment. I mean I really felt that when I saw that it was being offered I could hardly stop myself. It’s really quite a beautiful guitar. With a flawless finish. But I’m just sitting on it. Which is kind of a sin.

I've got an Antoria Les Paul custom black beauty circa around 1975, bought it for £25 in 1995. Seeing as they were sued by Gibson I assume it's a pretty close copy. Antoria morphed into Ibanez so not to be sniffed at, sounds good, plays well with an ultra low action. I fitted a brass nut and new Seymour Duncan pick ups about five years ago with a custom wiring loom that enabled coil tapping, get some neat sounds out of it, jazzy to head banging.

@@vmax4steve524 That's great. I had never heard of Antoria guitars. Apparently while they were made in the FuiGen factory in Japan where Ibanez guitars were also made in the 70's they were not part of the Ibanez brand. Here is what I found on the internet. I still have my 1976 Ibanez LP copy and even against either one of my real Gibson Les Paul's, the Ibanez copy is still great. Mine is very naturally relic'd from years of extensive road gigs, but still a great playing guitar. Your Antoria should be just like it in imagine since it came out of the same factory at the same time. Here is what I found. "The Antoria brand consisted of Guyatone-made guitars exported to the UK from Japan. Hank Marvin played an Antoria LG50 prior to Cliff Richard buying him his more famous Fender Stratocaster. Jeff Beck played one,[2] as did Big Jim Sullivan when he was playing with Marty Wilde.[3] They were imported by James T. Coppock (Leeds) Ltd and Charles Summerfield Ltd.[4] Some Antoria guitars may have been manufactured in Bavaria, Germany, by Framus.[5] In the 1970s, Antoria imported guitars made in the FujiGen factory, which also manufactured Ibanez guitars. Later, production shifted to Korea, where, among other models, an imitation Gibson ES-335 was made (a model also sold under the Harmony brand).[6] James T. Coppock ceased trading in the early 1980s and Antoria guitar production ceased. Then, probably in the 1980s, John Lawson acquired the brand and distributed guitars using the name until 2006.[citation needed] In January 2007, the Antoria brand was purchased by Adam Hall Limited, and then in 2010 by Tim Gentle Music of Stockton-on-Tees. The new Antoria electric guitars are manufactured in South Korea, and their acoustic and electro-acoustic guitars in China.[4]"

So, you’d said the middle position is typically the bridge and the bottom position is typically both the bridge and middle pickup and I believe you misspoke as you’ve said it correctly in the past. My R7 Custom 3 pickup is wired with the top being the neck pickup, middle being both middle and bridge pickups and the bottom position being just the bridge pickup. Also, something I’ve never seen you comment on is the differences between guitars wired with PIO(paper in oil) caps like the bumblebees in this one vs those wired with the ceramic disk caps like the modern Customs.

I'm gonna guess that the reason the middle only "position" sounds different with the flicking of the toggle switch has to do with the polarity of the pickups. Since it would be in phase, out of phase, or both, it would change the sound regardless if the other pickups were active.

As you say 3 pickup customs do have a unique sound. And this set up is the only factory wiring apart from the late 50s Switchmaster ones that allow you to get all those different combinations. Definitely this wiring (how Frampton's original was wired when he got it btw) has given Frampton his individual sound on those classic 70s recordings.

What color are the pick up rings? White or cream?

Too many versions of this guitar around even though I love the history and look that id ever invest in one. And the middle pickup is just in the way for me to play just like the ace frehley ones

My dads friend got one of these , got to play it last weekend. Pretty slick guitar but the middle pickup gets in the way of the pick/ my fingers when playing

I’ve got the Epiphone 61 Les Paul Custom (SG shape) with 3 pickups & a Burny 3 pickup Jimmy Page Black Beauty Les Paul, I keep the middle pickups set a bit lower to avoid that problem, works for me!

To get the right sound, you need to plug into about 20 pedals, 35 amps, and through a few Leslie speakers.

Surprised they didn't yellow the pickup rings to match binding.

Very good point. I have always wondered why the pickup plastic rings are so white on my Phenix … haha … Gibson even tarnished the gold hardware for vintage look.

The guy that did the original mods and gave him that guitar did all kinds of sanding on the neck and body which reduced the weight. He may have even chambered some of the body. That’s why the Phenix is light. Frampton does an interview about a lot of the details. You need to watch it because your missing much of the story of the actual modifications the guy did before Peter got it.

Hello, did you hear about the Gibson Nike SB Dunk low ? Super rare shoes modeled after a Gibson case : they are sold through auction at Sothebys HK these days

That thing is awesome, although for 7k, I'd try and get an Alpine white 84 explorer whether it be a Gibson or an Epiphone. I'd get other guitars as well, but that Les Paul still is sick tho.
