I really like how this guy talks about how fortunate he is to be in this current aftermarket. Not like a lot of shop owners acting like they invented adding fuel/air
The 5 cylinder audi engines have always been monsters. I remember years ago there was that Dahlback racing Golf that was around 1000hp AWD as well. And that was way before any of the newer tech was around.
I remember downloading drifting compilation videos back in the day from Ares or Limewire haha.. Where this black, caged, lexan, carbon, naca ducted, rear mounted huge radiator and audi's 5cyl swaped golf. Roasting all 4 tyres blowing the thickest smoke making porn like noises between straight cut gears- blow off- pops & bangs- waste gate- fuel pumps.
I thought you had to be Swedish to know of Dahlbäck Racing haha! Been standing outside hes shop drooling while watching all the race cars a few times :)
These guys says thank lamborghini for Audi motor??!! I say thank Audi / VW for the lamborghini motor. The hurracan is 99% Audi engineering and 1% lambo design
Yip that's true nothing to do with lambo. Ulrich beretzky is audi's chief engine builder he was the man who went back in time and designed the rs3 motor based on the rally and imsa motor. He himself said he wanted to hear that 5cylinder sound again.im gonna be honest I own a Urs4 5pot I love the rs3 it's fast and everything but when I fire up my Quattro it takes me back to imsa gto times flame spitting wastegate chatters and that sound. When I get in it I smile b4 I fire it up😁
@@43ten43 let me correct that: "A lot better than ANY 6 cylinder and better than even most 8 cylinders. The 5 cylinder sound isn't to beat. It's unique.
@@leonardoarispe4689 I would say the BullX RS3 exhaust sounds pretty good (maybe not like a V10, but sounds nice nontheless). There is a good video of it if you just search for "BullX RS3".
@@1970HondaCL100 Yes person I was referring to the movie by the same name Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man. Starring Mickey Rourke and Don Johnson. It is a joke given Zak likes Harley's and is dressed....well you can Google it yourself.
@@J90JAM Lotus, Alfa, Alpine are quitting their small quick coupes. Other than Porsche Boxster/Cayman there isn't any rear-mid engine sports car with price under 80k-90k. The Corvette is in that price range, but for me the corvette is a supercar it have powerful engine, 0-60 sub 3sec, got the style.
To be fair, it's a wholly Audi developed V10, so saying it comes from the Huracan/Lamborghini, would be weird. The 5.2 odd-firing Audi V10 is a development from their old 4.2 V8 FSI.
I used to think that as well, but the Audi 5.0V10 used in the rs6/s6 etc was not the same as the lambo v10 5.0. Different bore and stroke. The two 5.0's were separate motors, one from audi and one from Lambo. The subsequent 5.2 v10 is derived from the Lambo v10 and now the block manufactured in Germany in an Audi factory and shipped to Lamborghini, but the design is in fact Lamborghini.
@@sashaghovanlou8175 Lambo is italian. And Italy is an underdeveloped country. Audi is German engineering which means best in the world. The Lambo V10 is an Audi development.
Been following Hank's work for a few years now. I love that Hoonigan is finally covering them. I'd love to see Iroz build car for you guys in the near future
freakin insane. Having started with a Mk 1 Scirocco and stuffing an '84 GTI motor in for what, 25 HP gain. I've been through mid-80's Audi 5000 TQs to 200 20v Turbo to A6 2.7 Biturbo and my current, tame A5 2.0tfsi. This engine is incredible!
I’ve always thought that they kind of sound like a v10 (which is why I fell in love with them even though I prefer diesel) but this video explains it and it all makes sense now.
Thanks for this, Scotto.. As a fellow old school 5-cylinder fan, I really appreciate this kinda stuff. Kinda makes me want to buy a TT-RS/RS3. This stuff seems miles ahead of the AAN in my ‘93 UrS4. For years we used to complain on motorgeek about how the stock heads on the 3B/AAN just didn’t flow great.. The heads on the 07k seem to be a big improvement. And dual forms of fuel injection seems like a big plus, too. (And I’m one of those elitists who used to scoff at Haldex-equipped cars - these cars are so fast, it kinda makes the whole criticism moot)
The VAG connection to GmbH really is great. It's a good thing there aren't lambo logos on some VAG parts though or our egos would explode. Zac pumping blocks aside, it's no joke how fast the front end weight increases when you start modifying a car. Skid plate, solid mounts, bigger brakes, bigger wider wheels, thicker sway bar...and no added power to balance it out. Weight is hard to manage.
Sorry if I missed it, what are the rods and pistols like in the 07Ks? Also was the gentlemen right that they're a 90odd mom STROKE and an 80odd mom bore? But they still rev high?
As an ex vag parts manger , here is the explanation of the part number. The first the digits are the type. 07k is 5cly turbo , another example is 059 v6 2.5 tdi plus other variants. Second 3 numbers are the part type so 103 is head parts, 115 relates to oil system and so on. Next 3 is the actual part number then comes the end letter or letters , they are the superceded part numbers starting at A and running though to B and C and so on. So yes the block is very similar as its a 07 but not the same as it would have the same first 3 . If that makes sense and your still awake😴
If you guys ever decide to come to Hungary, I'm pretty sure I could organize a visit to Audi in Győr to check out the production line of the Inline5 and probably some other engines as well. I think Scotto would enjoy that. 😀
@@tannernickelson1379 oh yeah I remember that. they could also throw it in the R8 or I think they were considering a smaller Boxster esque R5 a while back
I'm not a big Audi fan but even I gotta admit, those 5cyl motors are the bomb! Stupid easy to tune, amazing sound, light and compact. One of VAGs best efforts. How do they hold up to big boost over the miles? I guess if these cars are meant to be daily drivers, that matters. What sort of life span can one expect at 1000hp?
Oh boy this is my kind of shop, my dad has a previous gen rs3 8P iron blok with a tune, about 410 hp crank. I have a 2005 regular a3 8P 2.0tfsi quattro manual(AXX EA113 engine like in the mark 5 gti 200hp) i had the engine swapped by a BYD EA113 from a edition 30 golf, basicly a s3 engine and had that build except for pistons crank and cams, head is cnc ported by LOBA motorsport in Germany and had supertech valvetrain put in, and IE conrods for stock pistons with race bearings, currently running a hybrid TTE420 rurbo. As a daily it goes well but it's heavy.1550kg with me in it after weight reducing the car. it made 414hp and 545nm crank limited by the stock s3 injectors, they had to use a 165 bar fuel return valve to get those numbers without injectors. These engines are hard on fuel, now they seem to be putting rs3 injectors in to get more power, and thats the goal in the long run along with a TTE480+ hybrid turbo or maybe a G25 garret, we will see,i like the spool on the hybrids for the street.Still got some schrik cams lying around but nobody could fit them because they have no timing marks apparently. So they have to be degreed in.I think cams with hybrid turbo would work great since you have the spool and midrange from the turbo and the cams could strenghten the top rev powerband. But maybe 1 day.😅 Here's the dyno run ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xbiczniq0g0.html
This video just blew my mind. I always loved the 5 cyl sound, but hated that any quattro had so much weight hanging past the front axles. I would love to do this on a b6 first to use the true quattro. I wonder how this thing will run on a standalone....the wheels are turning right now...
So is all the fun stuff in this vid starting with the TTRS or RS3 stuff or can any of it be applied to the plain jane "Rabbit motor" 07K? there is a pretty big price jump between the two.
Can a daza block take a mk2/3 golf rear engine mount the same way an r32 engine can? Or are the bolt holes just not there. Also is the bell housing on these either the shape of a 4 cylinder gearbox or a vr6 gearbox or is it completely different?
The first Audi 5 cylinder came to be in the late 70s in the Audi 100 and they have always been awesome engines very reliable under boost, in the 80s especially they were monsters in group B rallying and destroyed the big V8s in Trans am racing in the US till they were banned.
I've got a 2019 but have kept it stock. My concern with modding these is that you still can't have a full forged block. The drop in kits don't make you bullet proof, especially when the high compression. The piston ring gaps variances are what really have me worried. Not sure how well the DCT is going to hold up either.
Dude don't be afraid to throw power at these engines. They can handle over 600hp very reliable without touching internals. Same goes for the dsg. And if you're worried about it or want more power they got you covered with clutches. Have you seen the trans upgrade parts available for this trans? Bulletproof
Need MOAR of this! 😁 Also Scotto check please Boba Motoring channel! You'll be amazed what he pulled out from ABF turbo engine in MKII Golf! 😊 Love you guys!
Awesome! Friggin amazing what's possible now! I'm VERY new to the Audi owner game. Nothing fast or sporty, unfortunately, just a C5 A6 wagon (because kids). It's a love-hate relationship.....
