As I'm ALWAYS happy to say, I'M quite happy to live off of Thapae Rd where the Ping River is not far away, nor is Thapae Gate and Old Chiang Mai, I can get to Loi Kroah in ten minutes, get to Arcade Bus Station/CM Train Station in twenty minutes and to Moon Muang Rd in about ten minutes--if you want to live in Nimman, "Up to you" as the Thai like to put it but I'M quite happy to reside off of Thapae Rd on one side of my soi and Chiang Moi Rd on the other! ;-)

Nice one Wayne. I was listening to Tracy Chapmans song fast car earlier this year. Blew my mind its 35 years old. Her style has a timeless quality about it. That place behind the wagon wheels needs further investigation. Your arsh might find the local dogging scene there. Would be an interesting video. 😉 Take it easy.

I completely agree with your assessment of Nimman. In my opinion, it is big, hairy ballsacks. Give me a plastic chair, dodgy-looking Penang Curry and bottle of Hong Tong in the Old City/Santitham/Faham-wherever any day of the week over Chad and Ambrosia drinking kombucha lattes and eating artesanal vegan burgers in the latest trendiest co-working space. The place is so crap it makes Loi Kroh look like The Maldives.

I agree.I stayed at Hillside 3 for a few days.Couldnt wait to get out of the area.The other side along the ping river or should I say Loi Kroh Road right through to iron bridge

I love watching your walking vlogs at home in my apartment in San Francisco. It brings back memories of my vacation there and walking on those roads every day from Ninman to the University visiting my friend who is teaching there. And I agree with you Wayne that the Maya area is my least favorite place and I try not to go there much. I stayed opposite the burger place for almost a month and had good memories.

I've only been to Thailand twice, for 8 weeks total. Mostly road tripping all around the Northern Providences and down into Sukhothai. Total time in Chiang Mai about 2 weeks...i must say, i prefer areas with less Farang. I understand the appeal that some people have for the trendy places, that may make them feel more like they're at home, or somewhere more familiar. But, for me, my love for Thailand is stimulated by the authentically Thai sights, sounds and people! I loved Mae Hong Son, Mae Sareang, Chiang Khong, Phayao, Phrae, all areas around Chiang Rai, Sukhothai...(sigh). I can't wait to go to these places again. 😊🙏 Thanks Wayne! I always appreciate your videos and perspective.

Spent the entire month of October there and visited Nimman often. Was great eating Michelin guide meals in that area for a fraction of the price of America. Nimman was like visiting the downtown area of most famous travel destinations that are usually a little busier and more expensive.

I arrived in Chiang Mai on tuesday, staying at the Orchid Hotel on huay kaew road, moving to Wat Ket next week. Haha I am using Thailand Elite. I was probably in there when you walked past haha.

Spent my first week after touching down in Chiang Mai in Nimman as a lot of people do and i have to agree with your summary of the area Wayne. It's a nice area, very clean too, but too many Farangs for my liking. And as you say "very trendy" place but you would have to agree with prices a bit higher than what you would expect to pay elsewhere to match. Another thing was that you are right in the flight path of planes coming into and out of the airport. So thinking like you do you move away from it to somewhere else like Nong Pa Khrang where every plane taking off in a notherly direction turns right and flies directly overhead instead? Although by this stage they higher up and not as loud. Can't win a bloody trick 🤣

I've always stayed in Santithan for 3 to 5 months each year but after smokey season I'll probably be staying in Nimman. Most of my friends, Thai and farangs, live around there and we meet up every day for cycling. Bit like you see your friends and neighbours in your area. Got to find the right spot for your needs.

I agree with you on Nimman. It’s over rated for sure. The traffic is always insane, and of course the prices for everything are over inflated. Stay safe.

Nimman is my favorite part of Chiangmai. It has every type of business you could want, and is not seedy looking and overly full of Westerners and Western fast food like the Old City area.

Nimman is full of know it all millennials. A fair few western franchises. Lots of Korean, Japanese and Indian restaurants. Snobby place . Enough said.

While I was there last month, I had some business in Niman, so I spent a day wandering. Hated it. Might as well be Los Angeles. I won't move half way across the planet to live in what is esentially the west in style. Not my thing for sure!

I wouldn't say I hate Nimman but it's not a place I could live again. It's only a tiny part of the city, so loads more Thai style areas around. Cheers 👍

Its whatever you want. My family has something almost identical. 1st floor is hair, 2nd is nails and eyelashes, 3rd and 4th are an apartment.

as a tourist... i love nimman haha. great cafes, very walkable, nice mall to hide in when things get too hot in the afternoon. coming from singapore, nimman feels less dense, and a different vibe from home. if you don't mind sharing, which area do you stay in now?

Nimman's side sois are interesting. Not the main road, esp. at certain times of the day and night which are crazy, but off to the side and tucked away. I prefer the old city or Santitham or the back side near CMU.

I am moving to Thailand in a couple of years and my work is online but like you say I don’t want to see loads of foreigners I would rather have the proper Thai living experience to learn the culture

Don't you like MAYA anymore mate? I used to go there often for a meal, cheap and tasty, there or Kad Suan Kaew. I wasn't that keen on Nimaan road tho.

I've never been a big fan of Maya mate, lot's more cheaper places around with bigger portions. The only reason I would go Maya is if I was meeting someone.
