little late to reply, but yeah, just shows how great Rick's content is that even the greats enjoy it and not just us who dabble in music and can barely understand the terminology :)
What I love about Plini's music is even when it gets heavy, there's still a lightness and playfulness there that belies what is going on with the rhythm guitar. A breath of fresh air that sets the music apart from many current progressive bands. It's wonderful!
I love this comment, very well said! you just described perfectly why they are my favorite prog band, I love metal and electric guitar but im kind of over the angry style of it.
Rick keeps saying "melancholy" over and over in this video and yet all I can hear when I listen to Electric Sunrise is "inspirational". This song feels like waking up in the morning and walking out to the pond in the middle of the woods, where the trees break and the warmth of the morning begins to dissipate the cool dew that propagated on the grass in the early dawn. The sun is up and nature is finally coming alive while you are alone in its majesty getting to experience all of the color and vibrancy that comes with tranquility you can only find in that kind of space. I listen to this song all the time and It just reminds me of those mornings hunting or fishing with my dad back when life was simpler...
I love that Plini is getting some love here! Also, "I first heard of Plini when I was talking with Steve Vai a couple years ago," is probably the coolest thing anyone has ever said.
I work at The Lot, a restaurant in San Diego. a man said "Excuse me sir, where's the bathroom" I turn around, and IT'S STEVE VAI. I wanted to say hi, but was too shy. I'll regret it for the rest of my life. BUT I STILL MET STEVE VAI!
I’ve been playing guitar off and on for 6 years and I can play that main riff pretty easily. It’s just tapping a few notes and keeping your lower fingers on the lower frets. Nothing the great Rick Beato can’t handle :)
Rick: "that's my favorite part"... "And here's my favorite part coming"... "Now THAT is my favorite part !"... Love you man! You really got us goin'! 🤣
Man, I saw the Plini/Intervals tour, opening for Animals as Leaders in North America, and after their set, I immediately went to the lobby and bought Plini's album: Handmade Cities. He (backed up by the Intervals guys) just *Blew. Me. Away.* So I'm absolutely thrilled that Rick is going through this album opener, which in my opinion, is one of the best progressive songs ever.
Saw this tour in Philly and was completely blown away by Plini and was blow away by his solo performance and with Aaron in Intervals (i had never heard of either of these guys/bands) and of course Tosin and Javier just crushed it ! That tour was a guitar players wet dream fantasy tour for sure ! An amazing breakdown by Mr. Beato as always !!!!
@@GMHG777 haha was at that show too but went because of Troy Wright and Matt Gartzka. Being a drummer It was unbelievable to see those two live. Really amazing night.
@@TheDayisMineTrebeck Nice !!! My son is a huge AAL/Abasi fan so we went primarily to see them, but were both (we both play fairly well, but not like any of those master craftsman !!) just completely blown away by how amazing P and I were. Being old enough to remember hearing/buying early Satch, McAlpine, Vai and all the Shrapnel shredders (I''m talking early in ALL of the above careers), I was almost ashamed to pick up my guitar for a few weeks following the show.
Plini is just pure genius. Progressive music doesn’t need to be 10 minutes of theory, all music needs melody and feel. Plini is the perfect example of this.
Plini is seriously under appreciated in Australia. I went to a FREE masterclass held at local university, and there was only no joke 50 people there. With seats enough for 150. Crazy.
God I cannot get enough of this song. Might be the most incredible prog I’ve ever heard in my life I’ll never forget the absolute chills all over when that first big riff came in the first time I heard it when it released
This is one of my goals as musician. Imagine writing and playing the music you like and start gaining traction. Then one day you are watching videos and see your name on the title. First it must be like "wtf", then you open the video and its a Rick Beato's video. Then he says that Steve Vai told him about your music. Just imagine it, what would you feel?
Adam Young he’s not sponsored by them. They just happened to have a plug in designed by Plini/Neural with the presets for the song that Rick wanted to cover.
Omg you analyzing Plini just made my year! My absolute favorite guitarist. If you decide to do another Plini video, can you please break down Selenium Forest?
A fantastic example of how this series promotes the music of the artist he showcases and conversely how the clowns from big record companies who block this wonderful content are so very very short sighted. To highlight this I’m off to purchase this artist’s music because of this wonderful demonstration and the fantastic new music I have just discovered.
@@JulioLeonFandinho Have you listened to the streaming version, or just this? It sounds a bit less extreme on the album version, Rick is intentionally highlighting it.
@@JulioLeonFandinho i think the production is top notch, so many layers to peel back. hes amazing live as well. theres a reason hes starting to get recognized all over. this video will just give him even more exposure. glad guys like rick are fans and support him
@@olivierbourgault3032 As I said I'm not very fond of this kind of over-produced stuff, I like less guitar effects and layers, as you named it, and in general I don't like the sound of nowadays records. It's a matter of taste for me, after so many years of collecting records and listening to rock music I became very picky and suspicious about modern day stuff, which I find usually too much derivative... For me 'the song remains the same', but using state-of-the-arts methods to record it It's kinda contradictory and not my cup of tea
Thank you for the recommendation! Went to take a look, really good stuff. Might sound like an odd comparison, but Owane's way of playing is how I would imagine if Jean-Luc Ponty played a guitar and not a violin, lol.
having played and loved guitar for 42 years I was becoming a little tired of hearing yet another guitar saviour.... then along comes Rick and introduces me to Plini. who's music demonstrates that inventive, melodic, well played guitar is alive and well. Plini has totally moved on instrumental music from the eighties and nineties shred fest and given it back a tune that you can remember while still displaying absolutely incredible technique. Jimi Hendrix, Edward Van Halen, Plini. three big steps in the history of guitar.
Rick, we can tell when you really dig a song or a groove in a song. But this song: you are more than diggin' it; you are amazed, inrerested and lit up. Thanks for sharing. Cheers,
@@ioannisdenton I agree, if I had remembered them I would have put them there too. Very similar styles. There's another guy that does solo videos and has a style similar to Plini but his name is escaping me, but it's just amazing seeing people taking guitar to this beautiful/heavy/layered new territory
Plini is one of my favourite artists, gonna see him live with Periphery on their Euro tour soon!! Speaking of Periphery, I would absolutely LOVE to see you go through one of the songs from their new record. "Reptile", being 17 minutes long holds a TON of awesome harmonies and weird rhythms that I would love to have explained. Thank you!
Saw em both in Manchester - was awesome, my daughter wanted to see Periphery so I looked for tickets and saw Plini was on there too and I said "TAKE MY MONEY!"
I just come back here once in a while because I appreciate how brilliant this song is, I appreciate Mr. Beato educating me on what I’m hearing, and I appreciate his excitement and passion.
I've been waiting for this for a loooooooong time! Plini, Intervals, David Maxim Micic and Karnivool are basicaly the stuff I've been listening to for quite some time! PLZ do KARNIVOOL too, they have some interesting stuff in terms of arrangements and sonic shaping. Keep these vids going, I'm learning a lot and I love it!!! :)
I have been a Karnivool fanboy since 2004, Octane on XM at the time, had Themata as the backing track to their station's commercial. I killed the CD player in my old vehicle looping Sound Awake. I think Deadman, Goliath, Simple Boy, or Change Pt. 2 would be my top picks for a review. Such a great band.
@@willhuslig9104 Oh please for the love of god can he review Change pt2 I bought the album when it first came out and the first time I listened to it I damn near had a religious experience, hands down favourite song of all time
I almost couldn't believe this at first, but omg, Rick, I love that you are bringing someone so underrated like Plini out into the open! Great breakdown, definitely shows you also are appreciative of the artist.
Completely unrelated, but The Aristocrats are playing on August 10 and 11 in Nashville and Atlanta, respectively, and it could be a chance to have a chat with Guthrie Govan, Marco Minnemann and Bryan Beller...
Plini played live as an opening act to TesseracT earlier this year, I'd say they stole the show..! Had never heard of them, but they went straight in as one of my top bands. Great to see this breakdown.
rick i like how your ear is young at heart. your open minded, and you just love good music when you here it. im glad to be seeing you enjoy PLINI as much i as do. the dude is a musical genius
You know, the things I love about this series are a great insight into some really strange and beautiful sounds and music, some inspiration for harmony...And Rick just casually busting out a tapping line like that like it's regular Tuesday's business! Fantastic stuff!
Holy macaroni, this dude can play! Great title for the song too. It sounds like a city just as the sun breaks the horizon and controlled chaos is set loose.
This whole song is a masterpiece, but I can't get over how magical the acoustic intro is, as well as ending guitar solo. There's something so perfect about the way they're both composed. Like every note was thoughtfully placed, one by one.
Plini might be the best guitar player out there, imho. So innovative in the structure, melodies and harmonies, so many textures, feels and dynamics. Unique play style, and you can clearly hear his influences too.
18:13 Rick always has the classic “kid in candy shop” moment somewhere in every WMTSG, especially when you give him the power to isolate tracks via DAW....so jealous!
Can you provide more information about how he isolates the tracks so cleanly? I posted this exact question above but before I saw your comment. I'm not a tech guy by any means, but if you could provide a link or a brief explanation I'd appreciate it! It's like magic, I don't get it!
I can't believe I waited almost 2 weeks to watch this because I'd never heard of Plini. What an absolute waste of my time! The moment you said it's in 13/8, I was intrigued. Within a minute, I was a fan of Plini. You'd think I'd have learned by now to put my absolute trust in Rick's musical suggestions. Lol.
Never heard this before. I must check out more. Thanks Rick for waking my ears up yet another time. And I love watching the joy you put into these WMTSGs.
20:31 *mouths "i love it". This series is so enjoyable, I really appreciate the time you take explaining these songs. This one is really fun because it's obvious to me that you are impressed by the composition. Everyone would benefit from having Rick be their music teacher.
Plini is such an AMAZING talent. I wish this stuff got more radio play as this is what they should be pushing people to appreciate. Love it. Everytime I listen to the "handmade cites" album, and all the EP records, I get goose bumps everytime. Takes me to my happy place
Yo MAN!!! Love this! I'm an older guy and really missed progressive music I knew as a kid. Now am ecstatic over much of the music I'm hearing today. And turning me on to this and how things are being done is absolutely fantastic. THANKS
There’s thousands of talented guitarists, but nobody holds my interest for as long as Plini in the instrumental guitar space. They are the best in class for me
I know you did a lot of these videos about classic songs but this is probably my favorite wmtsg video. And the best part is that I wasn't that huge of a Plini fan. This is awesome, and one of the best examples of why this channel is the best music channel on youtube.
theres nothing more satisfying for a superb musician and composer than someone out there who gets the whole message of your inner voices and creativity. This is a magic example for sent-received! Rick is a really cool sophisticated superskilled guy and shows us the strong connection between generations of humans on planet earth who burn for complex and brilliant music. Thanks Plini, his fellow musicians/producer and Rick - saved my day!
Superb tune I downloaded it immediately I’m a jazz guy my friend is a a metal head in this song those to worlds come together it’s my song of the year I just love it!
I love this so much. I'd heard of Plini but didn't know his music until Rick was doing a live Insta recently and I tuned in just as a follower asked him to play "Electric Sunrise." After Rick played a few bars I went "wait, what???!!!" realizing I definitely needed to check out the original. In the couple of weeks since, I've been devouring Plini's amazing music while at the same time getting very comfortable with the flow of 13/8 -- a time signature this old pop/funk drummer really didn't have much use for. Plini's music is gorgeous and a totally original voice, and his comrades have mind-blowing talent that watching live performances confirms in about three bars. What a thrill to discover new music in this way, and have its importance and creativity burnished through the enthusiastic, thoughtful and thoroughly entertaining narrative that Rick brings to the party. Rick, you are amazing. Thank you for doing what you do so very, very well. Plini ... man, what can I say? Keep bringing the magic, brother!
Atlas was my fave Plini song for quite a while Rick, and I didn't understand your selection of Electric Sunrise at first. But you're so, so right my friend... this tune is sublime. Goosebumps 😍🌈🔥 Love you🙌
FRICKIN AWESOME!!! Thank you Rick! From another fellow Australian guitarist… Plini is one of my very favourite new guitarists and songwriters that has a voice and passion. So beautiful. Thank you for the wonderful breakdown Rick 🙏
Hi Rick, many thanks for this tip. Normal I listen and like jazz music, but Plini is really very very cool, amazing. Plini remembers me at the early record album from Genesis, not the style, but the complex compositions and the many melodic ideas. Plini blows my head away, their other songs, too. Many thanks for your work and your love in this work. Greetings from Germany
I love listening to plini. Been listening to him for a few years and he gave one of the best concerts I’ve been to when he came into town a year or two ago. I recommend you check out a band called Chon if you haven’t heard of them. They’re more prog metal with a strong beach feel. They’re fantastic musicians. The guitarists and the drummer are amazing
I love this fucking band... They are an esoteric experience. I love it when Rick gets all excited breaking down parts, especially the drums! Thats Troy Wright dude!, He made a bunch of Meshuggah medleys!
