What Mercury in retrograde means and how it works 

Astrology has just as much merit as any other science. You know the moon has an effect on water, correct? Then why be dumb enough to assume that the other satellites in our system dont also effect us in other ways. Only people who don't understand anything about our universe think astrology is pseudo science. Some of the greatest men and women in history were avid astrologers.

@@terrenzojones4560 Yes, but the problem here is that this is a news show, meant to inform, and this guy DOESN'T know or understand what the retrograde is other than what the planets do in the sky. It's not his title that matters, it's that he doesn't have the information. When people say "Ugh! Mercury's retrograde!" it IS because there's a propensity for certain things to run amok. HOWEVER, it's also a GREAT time for certain things like RE-writing, RE-organizing, RE-claiming, re-doing, re-structuring, etc. And THAT is the sort of thing an Astrologer but not a Physicist would know. (Unless he also studies Astrology!). SO, at least for me, THAT was my objection; that he didn't give the pertinent information. Information that would help people ... and also could re-structure HOW THEY THINK ABOUT retrogrades! (Positively rather than negatively, or just dismissing them).

Astrology claims there to be some kind of causation between the position of celestial objects at birth and someone's personality traits but has not been tested to prove or disprove this notion so there's nothing wrong with asking someone's opinion regardless of their occupation or field of study because no one actually knows.

Amber Leaf there are two types of idiots: all intuition no logic, and all logic no intuition. Balance in everything is key. They tend to go by what is demonstrated to be true according to the evidence that is available.

Science is constantly changing to adapt to the information that surfaces to maximise the accuracy of it's deductions and has led to the greatest examples of human engineering from planes to smartphones. Religion on the other hand is based on faith through spiritual conviction instead of empirical evidence.

Astrology is based on an understanding of the orbits of stars and planets so is grounded in these scientific facts which have been observed, measured, tested and proven to be true against empirical evidence. However, astrology makes hypotheses about a causation between the relative relationship of planets and stars and behavioural traits within humans without the process of observing, measuring and testing this causation. Therefore, the scientific method itself is missing from the components of astrology which separate it from astronomy. Similar to religious and spiritual studies, astrology isn't about creating models to demonstrate proven causations like the sciences but is based on making a leap of faith that what it says is accurate against the human population. There's nothing wrong with having beliefs about the nature of the universe or humanity which require a leap of faith if you just realise that it is a leap of faith and not proven science.

It appears to go backwards but does not actually move backwards. All planets move at different speeds so they are constantly passing eachother. Mercury retrograde has nothing to do with planets passing eachother.

the problem is there are scientist who are having and living like a real scientist .. he will never discard knowledge he doesn't know unless he has proper research on that... the fact is that many scientists become activists using their label as being a scientist.

I may be wrong on this, but I think the looping is caused by the fact that our orbital plains are at slightly different angles.

Thanks, I just watched the movie "The Principle", where the same scientist, Michio Kaku, along with a bunch of other top scientist, admit that the Capirous Principle has reached the end of it's scientific life cycle! A discovery in 2006 and again in 2013 is the final nail in the coffin of the Heliocentric model. So it's back to one of the Geocentric models that explain the looping and retrograde better.
