Oooooh you gotta try the Proraso Green aftershave. It has a scent all its own, not terribly similar to the soap. Very... Italian? My barber slapped it on the back of my neck the first time I went to him and said, “Gotta have that barbershop smell!” And he was right. Stuff smells great.
I think about the age thing you mentioned from time to time. I'm only 33, but every single life event I've experienced doubled and I'm 66. It's mind blowing to think about.
Just bought this soap yesterday, waiting for some growth. I remember the vid where you used barbasol aloe (green can) and have been DE shaving like that since I was in high school (I’m 27). Great video and happy birthday. I will be 51 on my birthday, due to my blindness, I cannot see, so I will never drive a Mustang no matter how much I would love to. So my midlife crisis was getting into straight razors LOL. Now keep in mind that I have not used either of my straight razors yet. My first one is still in Los Angeles since July 30 which I am trying to get moved here to where I live. My second razor, is a straight razor that I got from Max Schaeffer which I just got yesterday. Looking very forward to using both. Have a great day, and before I forget, Once you hit 50, it’s all downhill from there LOL.
Proraso green cream is my one and only, i buy the big 500ml squeeze tube (search Proraso Single Blade) i get it for under $20 on auction site, lasts well over a year .. a dime size squeeze into my shaving bowl and i have plenty of thick lather to do a nice two pass shave.
You need to get the blue and the white and do a showdown of all four. I’ve got the white in the way, but didn’t like the blue. The green is a staple in my rotation though. It’s a different kind of mentholated sensation to the US mentholated soaps, but it’s nice. Welcome to the Green Party!

About 7 years ago when i got into DE shaving.....i Loved that you used barbasol and what ever u had. You didnt stick your nose up and say you needed a pre shave, a shaving soap and brush along with a $300 razor and feather blade like so many use. It allowed me to just go for it with what i had. Unfortunately someone stole my whole DE collection of about 50 vintage razors.... 4 fatboys, 3 slim adjustable, a xouple of each black handle adjustable, a few super bbn speeds and various 3 peice razors. Along with my dads, grandpa and great grandpas razor......all gone. Now times are tuff and only have the new king c gillette to get back into it..... A single father of 2 girls also taking care of a elder mom......I cant afford to even get another decent fatboy...... A E-2 fatboy was my fav as my name is Eric and born in may.....dumb i know but it meant alot to me.
Actually also turning myself 40 tomorrow, and I just switched to using a safety razor and a shavette, both with Feather blades. Going well so far with the safety razor, not so much with the shavette, but anyway… I cannot believe I shaved for 25 years with the stupid cartridge razors, and on and off with an electric shaver (always the top of the line Panasonic or Philips) to find out just now how great, better, closer, cheaper, more satisfying, stress relieving is the shaving with a DE blade.

Happy belated Birthday, Sinatra! Since I'm still new to DE shaving, I've only used three soaps yet. But the first one I tried was the Proaso green and it's still my "main" soap. Glad you liked it. I haven't tried the red or the white yet, but I am looking forward to trying them.

Update: Tried all 3 Prorasos. Green and red were decent, but nothing spectacular. But the white… oh the white haha. The sensitive skin formula. An absolute home run. Finally a shaving cream/soap that responds spectacularly well to my sensitive skin. No more bumps, rashes, no irritation whatsoever. I haven’t had a product that prevents irritation this well since Noxzema made a cream for sensitive skin (maybe 2010?). Very happy with the entire Proraso white line 😁 as long as they make it, I’ll never again look elsewhere.
If you like Proraso pre-shave, you need to try Noxzema Classic Clean. It costs 1/10th, smells about the same, and works just as well. You can even use it as a post-shave. BTW, with all the talk about mentholated, I was surprised you didn't use the Osage Rub.
After 2.5 months I finally got yours and KenSurfs brush in the mail. Finally tried that Osage Rub sample, WOW that menthol had a big kick to it! Proraso green was my first shaving soap and they got great products.
Great shave! I might have to break out my proraso green for spring and then use my locally made kudus kick soap from bundubeard for summer. That stuff has super strong menthol, you'd love the hyper mentholated version!
So funny this one. The small voice "My nose is bloody!", the whispering, C'mon you are younger than me, stop whingeing! Another 50 years not so sure, rather enjoy now. My husband and I drove one of those in the red in Vegas, it was fun.
One half century and counting😬 Congrats SL... Just the right amount of menthol IMO, Proraso green is easy but refreshing and you need the splash too👌 When I turned fifty...WHAM....heart attack....open heart surgery....recovered👍 Just goes to show... Enjoy every day, you never know.

No matter how many creams and artisan soaps I have. The combination of proraso green pre-shave and soap and aftershave balm is one of my favourite experiences in wet shaving. Although, proraso red gives me slight irritation but has a beautiful post shave feel because of the shea butter

In Florida, for the trip to Orlando to visit Universal Studios, rather than rent a car, my family borrowed a pickup truck from my aunt to use since we got to that state by plane. Happy 50th birthday muh man

I love the Proraso products. They are relatively cheep, and great quality. I have the green and the sandalwood version's of there soap and the sandalwood after shave splash. I also have the methylated pre-shave. Awesome smell! On a side note, I received my new Rockwell 6S from West Coast Shaving late yesterday. I believe I enjoyed the closest, most comfortable shave of all time last night. I paired it with a Gillette blue platinum blade with the #5 setting and it was delightful. I wish I had chosen this razor first. I would have saved myself allot of money.

Happy Birthday! I hit 50 two years... I only cry when I can use summer rain to disguise it. Honestly, body is a bit creaky... but I still shit talk and slay teenagers in Counter-Strike, Battlefield and Planetside 2. My nipples are perky and my prostate is holding up. Proraso Green is my favourite... I prefer the tube... straight on the brush... lathers even better than the puck IMO.
