Nice to hear that they have pre measured cables for a center consol doing it the "flight chops way" is exactly how im going to do mine once i get to that point
Great content and very helpful. Additional items to consider: The aluminum air vents offered by Van's in black or silver (instead of the stock plastic vents). Remote canopy relies handle kit by Van's. Aluminum spinner (instead of the stock fiberglass spinner). Aircraft specialily hose kit for Garmin P-Mags and wing route fuel kit.
We did the Air vent upgrade. Vans no longer ships the plastic ones, so I don’t consider it a mod anymore. We are leaving the canopy release in stock location. Just worked out for us. Firewall forward kit. Steve from Aircraft Specalty is now making the fuel hoses for the standard firewall forward kit. So you are getting his product either way now.
Love the build, especially the brake lines. If I may make a recommendation, as a previous military aircraft hydraulics and pneumatics technician and A&P, it looks like you may have the lines ziptied directly together so they are touching each other. It is best to ensure they do not rub together even with the steel braid, they can develop rub throughs over time due to the lines moving as they pressurize, I've had to change many over the years from chafing. The easiest way to ensure separation is before you tighten the ziptie around the two lines, add another ziptie perpendicular around the outside legs of the original ziptie between the two brake lines then tighten each one up. This will secure them and keep them from rubbing each other.
This is a really good suggestion and I think I will be going back to rework them a bit. My A&P I work with on our Certified Airplanes has also taught me similar techniques when we were doing an Engine Monitor Install. Just to make sure I understand. Are you talking about separating the brake lines when they are running together, or are you talking about making sure when two bundles come together ensuring they are separated?
@@N14VE Thanks, both. It is important to make sure there are no restrictions to the lines when the pedals and/or brakes are applied when they are ziptied.
The power receptacle and music jack will be covered by the center console. Not sure myself what I'm gonna do with the wires since I got the Stein harness with them built in.
Plane is going to be awesome, have y'all decided on which prop you want? I have a Mooney, but my buddy built an RV-10 which Evoke painted, and it looks phenomenal.....got me thinking about building an RV-8

The RV-10 is a great plane. But we really wanted the aerobatics of a 14 and lower cost to build. Melissa says, when we need 4 seats we will build a second RV-14
We looked at the Wing Tip Light Mod and decided not to go with it. Yes it looks amazing. But the price point was pretty high and what you can do with FlyLEDs I think is a better result.
Keeping an eye on it, but right now it doesn’t appear to be affecting our build. In general, Vans Aircraft is a great company who will ensure the right thing is done. It would be heart breaking to have to start over and drill some parts out of a big assembly. So I hope their initial thoughts of it being a small number of parts is true.
I’ve seen two set ups. One is behind the pilot seat, the other is just behind the rear tail one access panel. I like the rear tail cone idea, but not sure about cg and pumping all the fluid under the baggage floor fore and aft.
CG decisions are hard because you have no clue where you are at until you are there. I think I am leaning towards behind the Pilot Seat for a more central CG. I will most likely call Smoke System Helpers and talk with them before deciding. I've have great luck talking to people and getting insight that I wouldn't have had otherwise. And when I do, we will make a video about it ;) Always got to be creating!

Working on it. One of our mics is having issues. I swapped them out last episode before we recorded. Everything checked out before we started recording, and then somewhere it all fell apart. Wish I had an additional team member to monitor and adjust as we recorded. But our Holden Retriever Rivet hasn’t been interested in helping us. It bothers me as much as you do when I’m editing.
Actually no. We have not taken any money or sponsorships for our channel. 100% of the items in our videos are items we decided on our own to buy BEFORE the vender even knew we had a RU-vid channel.
