The Grammys absolutely moved the goal post for Michael Jackson. Bad was the biggest selling album of 1987 and 1988. It also had 5 number 1 singles…which is still the record. And it didn’t win not 1 Grammy. NONE! They literally invited him to the show just so he could perform and boost their TV viewership. It’s the biggest snub in Grammy history.

@@djsl210 Oh…you thought there were Ballads on Bad or something? In this one. Mike wasn’t ever a strong vocalist. Outside of younger Jackson 5 Mike. I think he could have been a good vocalist if he used his own voice. But he faked that weird voice tone for year that he spoke with and tried to sing with and IMO impacted his vocal range. Great music, not great vocals.

Beyonce's artistry represents the experiences of groups of people that the Academy is terrified to empower. Taylor Swift is palatable for the masses. Her music doesn't present ideas that disrupt our society as we know it. It doesn't reject racism. It doesn't have fuck the police imagery. It isn't scary. It allows our world to continue existing disparately. Taylor Swift packages the facade of the American dream in ear worm melodies. It's easier to digest than artistry that emerges in coping with systemic oppression. The fact that these conversations can't exist without tiptoeing around her feelings. It's so eery. She beat Beyonce and Lady Gaga with Fearless... Taylor Swift might be stimulating the economy with hot dog sales....which is an imitation of life. Money outweighs artistry. Maybe the US dept of Treasury should host entertainment awards. It only matters if it sells to the right (white) audience. "You know the price of everything but the value of nothing"

How is the academy terrified to empower Beyoncé when she is literally the MOST awarded artist in Grammy history? Beyoncé doesn’t have an outstanding catalog that is against the machine so i don’t get the controversy of her not winning album of the year. Life in general ain’t fair and she’s only upset over one nomination she hasn’t earned yet having a plethora of awards. And why would Taylor sing about racism or controversial topics?? It’s not her life experience. Why are we looking for entertainers to be politicians/activists. That’s not gonna change a racist persons mind cause they’re already stuck in their ways. Now Mal, I love you and generally agree with your points, but telling buddy to “shoot the club up” is awful advice. His girlfriend is 34 so I’m sure she’s sure she doesn’t want kids. Forcing her to do so could perhaps lead to her embracing motherhood or… it could lead her to resenting her boyfriend and her kid. Parenthood is not for everyone.

‘Midnights’ was one of the weakest albums on the AOTY shortlist, and it still won. No Swiftie thinks ‘Midnights’ is Taylor’s best 😐 ‘Evermore’ was better than ‘midnights’ but I don’t think the academy wanted to give Taylor AOTY two years in a row because she had just won for ‘Folklore’.
