Definitely, it is a better option than not exercising at all. You are using some part of your muscles in your body and burning some calories. Do everything moderately. If it hurts, stop and opt for a workout that suits your body. Simple as that.

@carolinejohn4537

I would recommend one yes as it is low impact, you are more likely to use it every day as it is in your house (staring at you accusingly) and you can go at your own pace, slowly building up. Dont spend the money if you know you will give up after a month. Good all round work out for large muscle groups and cardio. Good luck

I don't agree at all. ride an upright for a few months and the go on a good long recumbent ride and you'll see your legs hurt in the back and at a different part of the calf up higher.
@sixstanger00
@sixstanger00 4 года назад
I ride a recumbent at the gym very similar to the one she's riding, and I also regularly ride a mountain bike. I do intervals on the recumbent, and it helped my climbing game on the trails considerably. My quadriceps definitely get more of a workout on the recumbent. I don't think Druce is saying one is a good long term substitute for the other. You can't ride an upright for months and then expect to be on your A game with a recumbent because they are completely different machines that require completely different body positions. Before I started training for XC mountain bike racing, I just rode my mountain bike. Awesome cardio, but my legs got the shit beat out of them the first time I got on a recumbent at the gym. Since I started racing, I alternate between the mountain bike and the recumbent each week. About two days on each, but sometimes I may have do three days at the gym if the weather is poor and I can't get on the trails. Bottom line: I don't use either one exclusively and I have no muscle issues. The recumbent training improves my MTB performance considerably, but unfortunately it doesn't work both ways. Riding a MTB doesn't really do anything to help my recumbent training other than keep my legs lively. I can ride 17 miles on my MTB and feel like I could do another 10 easily. 17 miles on the recumbent and my legs are ready to abandon me. For this reason, I use recumbent training for leg & core muscle building, and when I'm on the MTB, I use that time to hone my bike handling skills on the trails.

@@sixstanger00 thanks you very much for your review because it was what I was looking for. In other words I think the recumbent bike is more suitable for home practitioners who wants cardio in a confortabile position and also develop better leg muscle. Please correct me if i am wrong.
@sixstanger00
@sixstanger00 3 года назад
@@labranjames Correct. As long as you push yourself hard, you're going to get more cardio on a recumbent. I wear a Fitbit and over 60% of the time I'm in the "cardio" zone," whereas on my MTB this may only be around 50%. The main reason is that mountain biking offers some downhill, so you're not pedaling 100% of the time like on a recumbent.
@labranjames
@labranjames 3 года назад
@@sixstanger00 I appreciate your answer a lot. I am thinking of buying a recumbent bike for my apartment. The only reason I am still undecided is because the recumbent one takes too much space but great for my back and for its purpose while the other one is smaller, cheaper and even foldable. Do you consider being very important choosing one with high flywheels weight? Would it need to be more flywheel weight for recumbent considering the motion?
@sixstanger00
@sixstanger00 3 года назад
@@labranjames It really depends on what you intend to use it for. If you're just going to be spinning your legs to maintain muscle tone, a lighter flywheel would be fine. If you're going to use it for training purposes like I do, heavier flyhweels are better. However, I should note that the unit I use at the gym is a LifeFitness model and has 5 or 6 different resistance levels to choose from. Level 1-3 are pretty much just you spinning the pedals with no resistance. Since I race mountain bikes, I use the maximum level 12, which actually goes up to 16 during my workouts. Brother let me tell you...level 16 will set your quads on fire.

If you're such an expert why did you watch in the first place? That's a rhetorical question in case you can't figure it out...
