Spring flowering natives are so welcomed after winter! One of my favorites is bloodroot (sanguinaria canadensis). We found a few small plants in our yard when we moved into our house 38 years ago. The flowers are the purest white. I'm so surprised that it grows and thrives in one of the hottest driest spots in our yard. Love all the plants you are growing. I have a fothergilla major, but unfortunately, the deer, true to form, do not read the deer resistant plant list and have eaten all the flowers in previous years. This past winter, I put a wire cage around it and am enjoying my imprisoned blooms this spring. (Baltimore zone 7b)

Your imprisoned blooms!!! lol!!! I need to try bloodroot. I tried to grow it from seed but it's a little tricky and it didn't work out for me. Probably should just go ahead and buy some plants.

You've got all the things! Fun to see them in action - I'm still building up our spring bloomers, so nice to at least see them virtually!

Hi Paula! It almost seems like many of them are a bit early this year.....we had NO SNOW and barely a winter! SMH! Makes me a little nervous about the bugs we'll have to deal with in the summer...

I am in zone 5a, so spring blooms are just coming. Right now there is bloodroot, which I love to find how it randomly appears in different areas. I also have a shipment of bluebells arriving tomorrow to plant! Lori

Lovely!! We have Golden Ragwort blooming in our woods at the bottom of a hill. I will have to keep an eye on them to gather seeds.

Hi Heidi! Thank you! I have ever been able to germinate Golden Ragwort, SMH!!! I propogate it by moving the seedling all around the yard.

I may be mistaken but it looked like you have had Green & Gold (Chrysogonum virginianum) in bloom. I am loving mine as an agressive native ground cover

Can ragwort tolerate spring flooding? I have a slope that floods in the spring about once a week. Way less so other seasons. Maybe ragwort is my answer to help prevent erosion.

Hi, I am really enjoying your channel! Where do you get your native seeds?
@ninetypercentnative
@ninetypercentnative Год назад
Hi Becca! Thank you so much! I get my seeds from a few places. Toadshade Wildflower Farm, Prairie Moon Nursery and the Wild Seed Project. The closer you can source seed to your location the better. Let me know if you have any other questions.
