Bob Nelson was funny as hell back then...Telling about the guy hitting the glass door at the mall still makes me laugh out loud! His football player routine was great too.
please repost this video with Rodney's introduction. "now here's a guy, really who needs no introduction." guy in the back yells "YEAH", Rodney shrugs and walks off. Freakin funny stuff
Where an I find the whole routine with Bob doing boxer Jiffy Jeff. " You need Training, training, ta ta train train train-Get a monthly ticket get a monthly ticket if you take the train, I don't take the train but it's such a fuckin' bargain I bought one anyway LOL! That was a hilarious routine.
This was some time before Bob Nelson worked to clean up his act, and now devotes his routines to his physical comedy and characters. Nelson's idol and mentor was Red Skelton, and the story goes that Skelton would always tell Nelson that what he loved most about his stand-up comedy was that it was 100% clean. After Nelson would explain to Skelton that he actually had a lot of foul language in his act, Skelton would insist that his routine did not have any bad words and was 100% clean and that's what he loved most... Eventually Bob Nelson caught on to what Skelton was trying to tell him, and Bob Nelson clean up his act entirely, and by doing so, was able to show case his physical comedy to a wider audience which made him far more successful. Bob Nelson still performs today, but hasn't used a bad word since.
+Dr Moon Rat I have always thought that a comedian who could make you laugh without cursing was better than those who did! That being said this routine was hilarious as was all his previous work.
I disagree somewhat - certainly those who rely on their cleverness and creativity have a leg up - one of my favorites was the late Richard Jeni. But if you're doing a bit like this NY character a few curses is a part of the persona being played. If the curses flow and are gratuitous I'd agree with you - but he uses them sparingly and authentically. To me THAT makes it funnier - the character portrayed accurately. To do otherwise would be being 'clean' to a fault.
