------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In today's episode of The Questionable Garage, we're hitting a massive milestone in the restoration of my dream muscle car, a 1970 Plymouth Sport Satellite. This journey has been full of surprises, and today, we’re diving into the heart of what kickstarted this entire rebuild-the rear glass surround.
This section of the car was completely rusted away, and it’s what set me on this path to transform a nightmare into my forever car. The challenge is no small feat-working with a piece that's virtually disintegrated means every measurement has to be spot-on. There's no room for error as I carefully reconstruct the rear glass surround from AMD parts and some custom patches, ensuring it not only fits perfectly but also maintains the car’s structural integrity.
Join me as I navigate through the intricate process of measuring, cutting, and fitting this crucial area of the car. Watch the highs and lows, the frustration and triumph, as we bring this classic beauty one step closer to hitting the road again. If you’re into classic car restoration, metalwork, or just love seeing a dream come to life piece by piece, this episode is for you. By the end you might just learn the same thing I did, Anyone can do it!
Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe to The Questionable Garage for more updates on the journey to restore this iconic muscle car. Let’s get to work!

I removed the rear sheet metal from my 1965 Mustang today for easier access to the rear and could never have imagined that applying sound-absorbing coating could be so satisfying. Not only does it fulfill a function, it also gets a black surface that looks new. 😁

As a Mopar fan, and having reworked a 1/8 mile '73 Charger into a cruiser between 1997-2011 (years of chasing parts) I applaud your selection of a Mopar B-body! The most extensive thing I had to do was replace the passenger side floor pan and redo some crappy bodywork. Had to fabricate my own patch panels and welded them in. Kudos to you for your diligence and sharing the journey. Thanks Jared!

Now that we have the apple genius bar showing up, and clearly never spun a wrench. Which obviously shows you know nothing about restoring cars. You can replace every square inch of sheet metal on a car including under the vin tag if it is absolutely necessary. Laws are different from state to state on how or who can do the repair. Now if I bought a 69 camaro bought all the parts and built the car next to the rust pile. Fyi you can buy every single part for a 69 camaro from year one. I took the vin tag from the rust and put it on the nice new body at least in my state that is against the law that is called a re-body. Everyone that is in this industry knows if it was not for people willing to literally build these cars with all new metal in a legal method. I would say at least 60% of these cars would not exist especially the hero cars (anything with a big block or manual trans). I mean seriously, do you think an original metal Cuda that you see on those action shows........... Would have perfect panel gaps everywhere.............. nah

Before you start welding up voids, you should try and make sure they are not deliberate. There are drains all through the car. These drains getting clogged with dirt is why these cars are so rusted out today.

Today I learned that you need to go back and remove weld-thru primer in areas you can get to, and use the right primer. Thank you, I thought it was an "all purpose" sort of thing. I will be sure to keep that in mind in future projects. Keep up the great work!

It took Scott Newstead up at Cold War Motors 3 years to do his 60 Fury. He's a guy with 30 years experience of being a color-blind bodyman. The Fury had 1/2 the metal work as this one. The main difference though is he fixed most of the existing panels. The ones he didn't fix came from a parts car. It's a long series on youtube, but it's well worth the time. The finished product is beautiful and the car he started with isn't even a Fury. It's a Canada only Plymouth.

AMD would be good. I bought a storage yard for old Mopars, it's been in a few RU-vid videos, they might be able to help you with photos for placement and other needs on future projects. I heard AMD is going to be releasing coronet and corvair sheet metal and such. David and I could facilitate episodes of gyc to feature you learning how to do sheet metal or whatever, maybe Mark can look over your work.

It might not look like a big deal having the package tray tacked into place, but unless people have done a very big build and gone through the process, most people won't understand how much it truly takes just to make small steps. Of course a lot of people wouldn't spend the time making it as right as it can be, and their final product will show that lack of effort. There's a good chance that your car will be put together better than it was at the factory. You're getting there, and when it's finished you will have something that you can be very proud of, and you did all of it.

tool tip: use a crescent wrench(adjustable wrench) to line up the metal edges (especially after you drop/bend them) close the jaws down to the gap of the metal and work it into whatever shape you desire. i say this cause i saw jared using a channel lock to straighten up an edge and they fit in your pocket nicely when not in use

The cost and time you spent will be all worth it in the end! You can make a tool out of square stock by cutting out a section of it and placing it over the torsion spring bar and using a hose clamp to hold it in place. Then you can safely pull the bar and lift out of the hole.

Those trunk springs are a lot stronger than you'd think. I'm working on a 72 dodge demon. It uses trunk springs and hinges that look the same as this. The car was in pieces when I started this project and the trunk hinges were wired down to an eyelet on the back of the wheel well. I didn't know they were under spring tension and I untwisted the wire holding the hinges down. That hinge hit my jaw before I could blink. I had the stitches removed last week and I'm suffering the effects of whiplash.

Jared, it’s nice seeing somebody take the time to restore a car the proper way on RU-vid. There is that one guy who was on MotorTrend, one of the many car shows, and he left and started his own channel. I loved him on the MotorTrend channel, but on his own RU-vid channels, “Stay Tuned”, I think it’s called. Every single car is what he calls either “down & dirty” or something like that. Which is cool and all, but I want to see somebody put forth the best effort they can to turn out the best product they can. So for that, thank you.

Continuing to love your work Jared!! I am so, so excited for you for this build...to quote a line from Simpsons, "You just know it's gonna be good!" haha. You did miss one thing from your MCM montage originally and that was the random dildo in the car hahaha. Keep up the good work mate, can't wait for the next one!
