Actress Danai Gurira has a history of playing an incredibly skilled warrior, so we were excited to see her taking on the role of Okoye in Marvel’s Black Panther. On the big screen, she’s a leader of the elite warriors known as the Dora Milaje, but in the comics, the Dora Milaje had a very surprising job to do in addition to protecting the king. We’ll let you know what it is and also discuss which scenes starring Okoye didn’t make it into the final movie. We’ll also talk about how Okoye feels about Bucky Barnes and what her plans are for Avengers: Endgame and beyond.

I LOVE Danai Gurira! She's a beautiful woman & an amazing actress! She's proven she can play roles that require her to be a "badass" & also show a softer, emotional side as demonstrated in Black Panther & The Walking Dead. I look forward to seeing her performance in Endgame, BP2, & other future roles.

The only thing standing between Danai Gurira and an Oscar nomination for the role of Okoye was that scene with W'Kabi got cut. It was an acting gold, it almost felt like its not a superhero film.

Presenting her costume as not 100% African is a bit shallow. The original people of the Philippines are short dark skinned people call Negrito, and it was said for a samurai to be any good he has to have a bit of African blood in him. Point is , African culture and genetics are the original stock that populated and spreads throughout the world. Read Ivan Van Sertima series of book, African origins in Early Europe, Asia, the Americas . Then you may realize cultural elements returned to the original has a legitimate place in representing part of the original .

sagacious Sage Ifugaos are NOT Negritos. Negritos reside in the Visayas region (central Philippines in Negros to be precise). The Aetas (who are similar to the Negritos but belong to a different tribe) live in Luzon. Ifugaos and Igorots (both mountain people) are also not as dark as Negritos are. They look Malay. Ifugaos, Igorots, Aetas and Negritos are Austronesians (Malay-Polynesians). More closely related to the Aborigines of Australia. These tribes are also not as widely dispersed in the population and very few people can claim Negrito or Aeta heritage because these tribes rarely interact with other tribes in the Philippines. "for a samurai to be any good he has to have a bit of African blood in him" there is no such thing. Considering the intensity of racism that biracial Japanese and black people face... that didn't exist. There is however one samurai who was black. His name was Yasuke and he came to Japan aboard slave ships brought by the Portuguese in the 1500s. The Japanese at that time was so confused by his appearance that when Yusuke was given to Daimyo Nobunaga. Nobunaga thought his skin was tattooed or painted that he made him wash his skin. Yasuke was uncommon at that time because Nobunaga treated him equally like he did his other men. Apart from Yusuke, there is no other African samurai.

We were told their relationship instead of shown. One line saying "my love" and the scene with the rhino. Without that one line no one would be the wiser, and the rhino could have just been trained to respect the dora milaje and the high officials. Why didn't Okoye stop W'kabi from entering the lab? I feel they needed at least one scene alone together before the final battle.

I know this late, but there was a deleted scene of the 2 of them that takes place right after T'Challa got thrown off the cliff. It explains a lot about W'Kabi and why he aligned himself with Killmonger, their relationship, and why Okoye didn't leave with Nakia...
