Glad to hear you talking about "neighborhood" fashion. When I was a young woman i cared very much about fashion. As I grew and matured, I realized that fashion is just someone's idea about what's acceptable year to year, or for an unspecified period of time. It's all made up. I remember when skirt length was an ironclad social law. When I was younger, we NEVER wore white after Summer. We HAD to have a bag that matched your shoes. Gloves were essential, too. HAHAHA. I remember when sleeve length was also restricted. In other words, it's all made up and real grown-ups wear what THEY like and what THEY feels right for them. Baggy, skinny, low cut hight cut, thick heels, thin heels, pointed toes, round toes, colors, and even fabrics are all made up. MAYBY so designers and clothes manufacturers can make us think we need to BUY new clothes. My question is WHY women continue to wear clothes that are uncomfortable and even bad for health (stiletto heels for example). Body shapers that they fool themselves into believing are somehow okay but corsets? Oh, no! Also, every look cycles around. Hip Hugger, embroidered jeans were in when I was a twenty-something. They went out and in and out.... Same goes for every look and fashion. Yawn! Wear what you want and hang what others think.

I think you only have to read the comments to see that people will wear the clothes they like and feel comfortable in. I mean, who are these people that are judging us? I like watching fashion advice videos and am generally aware of fashion trends but I will always pick and choose which bits I take notice of and which bits I ignore, as I’m sure most people do. So much depends on life style, body shape and height and of course personal preferences.

enjoyed your video. I have to say, that by the time you reach 50 you should have figured out what flatters you and what makes you happy when you put it on. So wear that. I think trends are created as a means to continue to sell tons of clothes that most of us don't actually need. And fast fashion is the worst for that. Don't buy into the nonsense of hyper consumerism.

My opinion, you simply can’t go wrong with classic style. It’s neither in nor out. While the neighbourhood might be wearing a particular style (often extreme or revealing) a classic style will make you stand out as different, classy, confident and dignified. You’ll never look back and ask “did I REALLY wear that?” Keep on trend with accessories instead 😊

Dressing classic allover when you're older can age you even more. I find that breaking up the outfit with a fun piece of clothing and/or pops of color can bring another dimension to a classic but predictable-looking outfit.

I had a loooong denim skirt about 25 years ago and I'm thrilled that they're back in. Urban Outfitters have them online, but I made my own from two old pairs of jeans (in fact, I've made a white one too). It means that you can put a slit exactly where you want, and as high or low as you want! xxx

The other thing that I have noticed is that my grandmother at my age now looked much older, her clothes were more matronly, her her cut was older and she had curlers. I have a concave stylish haircut, short at the back for our summers and hot flushes from menopause. My mum is 86 and is a gorgeous dresser when she goes out. So what I wear now, and the hair cut and make up,is so different to my lovely grandma that it’s hard to believe. And my grandma was a dressmaker and looked lovely but just older. Have others noticed this?I don’t just necessarily mean fashion styles, just older ladies in general then. Age 62 now is not what it was in 1979.

I was so glad to hear you specifically mention “neighborhood” fashion/Florida fashion. Every other RU-vidr I’ve watched ignores such things. To hear them say “ don’t wear capris - just wear jeans” has never spent months in South Florida. It’s freakin’ hot (and humid) there! I’m sure there are plenty of women who are willing to sacrifice comfort, would rather be fashionable, but not me. And not lots of other women in hot and humid climates.

Fashion is the antithesis of style as Quentin Crisp said. If you feel good in something ignore what is fashionable. If you live it, wear it. Also with more concern being given to the environment, fashion is becoming "out of fashion". IYKWIM. We are struggling financially so it makes sense to thrift shop, adapt old clothes and create your own style. I havr now a "one in one out" rule on my pieces. My classics I keep and wear year after year

As a person who is only 5’ tall, oversize anything will make you look as if you are wearing clothes from a rummage sale. Also, keep in mind where your height is at relative to your overall height. There are short women who still have long legs and short torsos and vice a versa. All of these things matter just as much, if not more than what is “current” to look your best.

And yes, teen should be taught at for instance Spring to dress in a more proper fashion. And it is not price but FIT that is everything, take your time, find your fit and colors.

I don't care about fashion, trends or designer labels. I have my own style which has always been ahead of everyone else and is unique and a bit eccentric. I know what suits me and what doesn't. I have a lot of long kaftans in gorgeous colours and patterns with beautiful turbans to match, and elegant sandals. I just bought a hooded silk medieval cloak in Royal blue satin with white taffeta lining and trimmed with white fur. I haven't worn jeans for many years and wear jeggings instead or leggings. They are much more comfortable and go up and down with my weight. I'm only 5ft tall and I wear long tailored jackets that make me look taller and slimmer, they look great with leggings and high boots with a nice long tailored shirt under the jacket. I'm 65 and love my silvery white hair. I am often complimented on my skin, and when I wear one of my kaftans with a matching turban it causes a sensation.

I don’t wear shorts but I do wear maxi or midi dresses or wrap skirts. Loose pants, linen or soft cotton, are also good option.

YaY for you! ❤ That you get this: you’re the only one I’ve seen talk about “neighborhood trends.” I certainly dress to look fashionable for my town, which is New England or Northeastern Coast Classic” (jeans, linen, white shirt or mariner, chambray, combat boots in winter, Keds classics in summer) and not NYC or Hollywood. I surely would never dress as a tourist visiting here. When I lived in Washington DC, I dressed for the fashion there. I “tweak” what is fashionable in my region to make my look fresh and current. You always give me new perspectives to add to my classic NE style. Thank you for this video!!! 🌷 PS: I absolutely detest the hi-low hems 😡.

You sound like you dress my style. Love my combat boots. You'd like the look in my cargo pants video showing combats and camo. I also then dress linen in summer, verging on coastal grandma.

Thank you. I was just away with some friends who are my age - early 70s - in a warm climate. So many capris and tunics! I don’t have any - partly because I am super short and don’t think the proportion of a long tunic over cropped pants is a good look for me. I wore maxi dresses, maxi skirt, jumpsuit, full length pants or longer flowy shorts with slim tops partly or fully tucked in, etc. Do I (as do they) have a belly? Oh yes! But I think there are alternatives to wearing a tent-like top to disguise it. Keep posting!

I wear what suits me colourwise and style I always get nice remarks. I worked in ladies department dressing people and also hat department. I learnt a lot. People dress on what they can afford these days. I moved house and gave away anything with things on the front t shirts with words on I would never wear. Puff sleeves muffin tops went out bare mid rifs . Capri pants look awful on older women.

I'm not too much into fashion but when I hear the comments about capri's I always think they can be made a little shorter. Also what's the difference between where a skirt hits your leg or capri's. Just adjust them to your body. There comfortable and not too revealing. No one is talking about how a skirt cuts you off....or are they? 😱😄

Be aware that if you sit on a rolling chair at work that midi or maxi skirts (especially ones with a slit) can get under your wheels and drive you face down into your keyboard….in my case: a lathe. That’s more of “keeping your nose to the grind stone” than I need. My mother informed me of this….I poo poo’d her. Never poo poo your mother. She was a fashionista till the day she died.

I find absolutely nothing wrong with people knowing that I have had something for x number of years if I like and enjoy wearing it. Aren‘t we all about sustainabilitiy, which means not throwing out things after a season. That said, I avoid many of these very trendy pieces, and the ones I buy I plan to wear for as long as I like them.

Capri - no way. White trousers - definitely no way. Front tucks - absolutely no way - so old fashioned RU-vidr 2015! I get why women wear tunics - cover up bottoms and tummy area. I wear organic white cotton ones in the summer simply to cover up my fair skin and moles on my arms!

The popularity of the capri pant is a point of much criticism but often the ladies are petite and find they do not have a hemming problem with them, they work here coastal for walking in the surf and are better than a short short in the hot American South. They are not for the city, but for outdoor pursuits. Thank you. In retirement we can all be fresh and comfortable. signed used to wear a suit and heels daily!
