This video completely floored me: it's so well done. The edits are so charming and I love the aesthetic. Best of all, however, I got to learn about something really helpful! Had to log in to comment this, I'm just loving your videos.
I'm sure the people behind spill and brew work together in some sort of way they could be a company of people working on these vids or even just one person on each channel either way I love their vids
I know this is a joke but, I mean have you not seen produce, meat, dairy, or whole wheat bread. Unless your trying to find stuff without any sugar at all in which case you can't because very few foods don't have any levels of sugar in them
@@quadrillionducks thats just the beginning of the rabbit hole too. Dont forget that ALL carbs break down into glucose. Spoonful of sugar and whole wheat bread break down into the same thing. Also cant forget the simple sugars that dont show up in the nutrition fact like "lactose" in all dairy
I switched to diet soda when I was tired of gaining weight (granted, I had other things I needed to do, but it was a first step). My weight gain stopped, and then when the pandemic forced a change in my diet, I dropped 15 pounds. There was one major downside, though. Because it didn't have sugar or calories, I was drinking more of it. This meant I was taking in much more caffeine, and I was beginning to feel like garbage even if I had a single can. Thankfully I was able to get it under control and save the multiple glasses for special occasions.
Interesting story, I understand how easy it s to consume more sodas than you realize. I’ve not ever gotten use to the taste of coffee (yuck), so I switched to soda (Pepsi). When I worked nightshift as hospital RN, I drank several each shift. Soon found out why my ears where ringing all the time- - caffeine!!
I'm drinking zero coke and Pepsi max for 3 years now. And I took it slowly on cakes and I'm not using sugar at all. Just replaced by honey. I've lost 5 kg from 84 kg to 79 kg and I stopped here. Otherwise I'm eating everything normally. Protein, carbs and MC Donalds. No problems so far. My clinical investigation ware done 2 months ago and came up really well. I'm 38 by the way. Cheers guys and a lot of helth!
@@kt5229 I know man, there's sugar added in everything, salami, bread, hot-dogs... But when i say I stopped sugar, I'm referring to the foods or drinks, that have it in obviously high concentrate values. Otherwise our brain needs sugar in some quantity, it feeds with it.
I started avoiding sugar in general including artificial sweeteners as much as possible about 3 years ago and it has been a huge improvement. The most noticeable improvement was actually not in weight loss or the many other physical symptoms mentioned in this video. For me it greatly improved mental clarity and my ability to concentrate on something. It also helped greatly with getting rid of the really bad sugar crashes I would experience at least once but often multiple times a day. What do I drink now? Tea, mostly. I love green, rooibos and ginger tea's and it's basically the only thing I drink anymore aside from regular water. While I highly recommend most people do the same I am also very well aware of hard it is. Sugar is highly addictive and greatly decreasing your intake is going to rough. It took my body about a month to adjust the much lower intake of sugar, your mileage may vary tho.
The difficulty I found is not the motive to switch, but the ease of access to be healthier. It's alot more encouraged and easier in America to eat unhealthy items
For my wife, the noticeable facotr is aiding in weight loss. When she's drinking a sugar drink, it's hard for her to lose the pounds when she is dieting and exercising. Dropping the soda has greatly increased her wieght loss combined with her improving diet and exercise.
I would say artificial sweeteners can help with getting off of sugar because they aren’t as addictive, but once your off not to use them. And yeah I don’t have sugar or carbs and it makes everything better, not just mood. My asthma and eczema are noticeably better without sugar
It's really funny that you said how studies may link diabetes as a possible effect of artificial sweetners. As an EMT ridealong, whenever we have to pick up a diabetic patient, odds are they have a lot of diet drinks with those artificial sweetners.
I bet! And this is seriously not an attack toward you or other EMTs, but another amusing observation is I often see bulging waistlines in nurses and EMTs... Those who are supposed to save us from poor health and emergency situations. Always has baffled my mind how they can choose a state of severe insulin resistance. Hopefully we can spread the word so our healthcare workers lead by example ASAP
I remember back in my early 20's if I drank a regular soda I felt sluggish and tired afterwards. Thing is I kept gaining weight while drinking diet. Had weight loss surgery last year and I can proudly say I haven't had any caffeine or carbonated beverages since. Even pre surgery I had to go 2 months without either and I felt so much better just removing that from my diet.
Wise lady once said, three difference doctors in my life time told me I would die if I kept drinking Dr pepper but they're all dead. Also she 104 years old
I remember when I was in 4th grade my dad was rushed to the ER because of his high blood pressure. All I remember before he went was that he’d been drinking a lot of soda and sweets. But when he went he got diagnosed with a rare diabetes that’s made of type 1 and 2. But now he’s safe and it’s been more than 4 years since then he lost weight and is much healthier. He just turned 60 this year.
You mean LADA? The high blood pressure is most likely because of high sodium content though instead of artificial sweeteners. LADA is also not found to be caused by genetic or lifestyle factors.
Before I was diagnosed with diabetes, I was drinking sugar soda every day. As soon as I was diagnosed, I switched to artificially sweetened drinks (first Diet Snapple Peach Iced Tea (aspartame), then Ocean Spray Cran-Lemonade (sucralose), then Diet Coke with Splenda (sucralose). My A1C was cut in half and I lost 30 lbs. I made some other moderate dietary changes and I'm taking Metformin, so I don't owe it all to switching to diet drinks, but I think it was a big part of it. I definitely don't find that artificial sweeteners raise my blood sugar.
I cant' touch ARtificial sweetners they make me sick literally. I don't know if it's my PCOS, Endometrios, or Huntington's Disase. Whatever it is affects me badly! After years of soda abuse I quit period in March. It was hard at first but it was worth it!I am mentally clearer and more able to focus I feel like a dif person and I def lost more weight! I am glad that I can't drink Diet sodas because it inspired me to quit entirely the regular ones which were hurting me. The carbonated drink bothers me too so that doesn't help!
@@matthewmccormick3468 i had a migraine from November 2008 to 2017. I did everything from Neurologists and MRI scans to Daith Piercings and chiropractors. I did elimination diets and discovered that if I stopped drinking diet soda for a couple of days, my migraines started to let up. Just quitting for 1 day wasnt enough. I had to avoid it for several days. If I ever drink aspartame now, it is an instant migraine, and it usually lasts several days. I still get migraines 2 to 3 days a week, but they are way more mild than they used to be, and lets face it, I had a 9 year long migraine, so this is nothing by comparison. I learned I had other migraine triggers, like alcohol. If I dont drink enough water, If I dont get enough sleep, etc., they get worse. But I learned artificial sweeteners, with Aspartame being the worst, artificial sweeteners were the biggest migraine trigger for me by far. Try for a week or 2 to not eat or drink ANYTHING that has any artificial sweeteners in it, avoid alcohol, drink more water, and see how you feel. Oh. And another thing, Carrigeenan, is a migraine trigger for me, but I dont think its nearly as big of one for most people. It is an emulcifier? a thickening agent, that is in lots of things like ice cream, coffee creamers, etc., and has like 50 different names. Try it for a couple of weeks. The worst that happens is you discover that those ARENT migraine triggers for you and you can resume eating/drinking them. One of the other things I did was started taking CBD oil. It helped more than any other supplement or medicine, but was not nearly as big a difference as cutting out artificial sweeteners was. I really hope you get better and can get some relief. I really do. Good luck. And maybe let me know if you do get some relief. It will make me feel good knowing someone else is getting better.
@@ZackBurnsOG thank you for the detailed response. I was drinking 3 Sprite Zero bottles a day. I have had a similar experience as you. Have went to several doctors and been on medications and tried lifestyle changes. Hopefully this is the culprit. I will be in touch with an update soon
@@matthewmccormick3468 I would recommend tapering off, I tried to go cold turkey and ended up getting shakes to the point my teeth were chattering. I was having like, 4-5 of those generic crystal lite packets a day.
I go for the regular one if I want to hurt myself while enjoying it. I taste also more sweetness in the diet versions, and it's a weird sweet taste too.
Aspartame is one of the most strange sweetener, it has been illegal, can still cause blindness tho nobody eats it that much and so on, i have been using Erythritol alot and sometimes mix Stevia with it, stevia had bad reputation but it was because alot of companies mixed it with other sweeteners like Aspartame, Erythritol shows no negative effects on health or bacterias in your body and doesn't raise blood sugar or insulin levels and tastes good, its kinda the "perfect" sweetener
When I was a kid, a soda was a once-a-week treat on a Sunday afternoon. I'm returning to that as a practice. One soda per week as a treat. My mom was so smart. Still is!
It gave me stomach pains, never again 🙃 for me as well, Diet Pepsi taste like a flat soda that someone put a bunch of good and plenty in it and stirred it around, straight up poison, but all diet sodas have that icky taste.
Me: I'm on diet for a while now, a little sip of diet coke might be not hurt because it's diet coke. Brew:"What one sip of diet coke does your brain" Me:👁️👄👁️
stevia [ˈstēvēə, ˈstev-] NOUN a composite herb native to South America (Genus Stevia, especially S. rebaudiana, native to Paraguay) whose leaves are the source of a noncaloric sweetener. It is artificial as it does not provide any calories for the insulin.
@@millgiass By that logic any sweetener is natural, seeing as there exists nothing in this world that isn't somehow natural. Advertising something as "natural" only goes to show one is preying on the same demographic who don't want "chemicals" in their food.
Whoa I subbed when there were only 32 subscribers me being 32nd but I'm glad that brew is growing at a rapid pace and I hope to see more great and new vids👏👏👏💕💕
Good choice. This video dont talk about salt. Diabetics have problem with frequent urinating. Frequent urinating caused sodium depletion. A diet soda contain salt. So you replaced the missing salt.
In 1964 I drank some diet soda and immediately violently threw up. That was my body telling me "that's not food". Diet coke with aspartame gave my brother a nose bleed that lasted 3 days. Water I believe is what our ancestors drank. Works for me.
Wow... I just discovered you with this video, very interesting, well researched and the format is great, with great animation and a nice, smooth clear voice to speak over the great animation and videos ! Good job !
- People, I've been drinking diet-cola for 50 years & I'm non-diabetic & @ the last check my doctor said; "I'm too healthy for my age & when am I gonna retire?" - Keeping physically & mentaly active is the key.
I still say aspartame is addictive. I don't even like cola, let alone diet cola, but if i stop chewing sugar free gum for more than a week I get this horrible craving for it. Drink half and then can't stomach the rest.
It's been two years since I swore off sugar and moved over to obtaining sweetness via sugar alternatives. I wasn't overweight of at risk of diabetes, I was just worried about my dental hygiene. There was this magical moment some time after I switched where I realized I no longer woke up with morning breath, that I no longer had constant flem in the back of my throat, and that even my complexion had improved noticeably. Listen, in the worst case scenario where the theoretical health consequences of sugar alternatives are completely true, when you choose it over real sugar it's just a choice between which brand of unhealthy you want to go with, I found the potential higher risk of cancer and possible gastrointestinal imbalances to be preferable to potential diabetes and losing my teeth. Plus, my Grandma whose just about 100 years old has been drinking Diet Pepsi religiously since it was released and she's still kicking, not even in a wheelchair or anything she can still carry herself around just fine, so in my mind it just can't be nearly as bad as some of the fearmongers like to say it is.
Out of curiosity, I wonder if this effect could be avoided or minimized by consuming a carb source with the diet soda considering you’d actually be using the insulin.
Diet soda doesn't cause an insulin spike, the body can tell there is no sugar entering it. It isn't fooled by the sweet taste having a carb source with it would mean your also consuming calories.
If insulin is actually produced with artificial sweeteners, well that's how dogs get poisoned with xylitol. Xylitol triggers insulin release in dogs but does not provide the actual sugar, so dogs go into hypoglycemia and it is easily fatal. Does that happen to you after a diet soda? No.
Wow this older brew video is so different. I has more of a vibe and were chilling while senpai teaches, while the newer ones focus on comedy i feel. How cool
I missed that part as well.....maybe the caffeine from all the coffee had him so jacked up that he literally went ADHD and took it off the rails 😂 Still Wheres the info on how it affects the brain?
He basically gave the fairly old hypothesis that artificial sweeteners cause elevated insulin levels by tricking your brain into thinking youv'e just consumed sugar. This has only been shown to happen with sucralose, and possibly stevia. It's never been proven to happen with aspartame which is the most widely used and probably best artificial sweetener that is commercially available. Also, even with sucralose the effect is very mild and unlikely to result in health problems. If the overproduction of insulin was significant it would inevitably result in hypoglycemia, and you'd basically see people passing out half an hour after drinking a diet soda. Very often soda is drank while actually eating a meal, which will cause a large release of insulin anyway and a small variation in the insulin levels after the meal (which will always be high because you just ate) is of no consequence.
