This video made me realise how intelligent I am, to the point I started doubting my intelligence due to the possibility of me overestimating it. Doubting it made me even more confident in my intelligence, in fact I am so confident in my intelligence now, that I must be stupid.

I feel like a truly intelligent person doesn’t engage in an argument with the goal of “winning”, rather they do it to put their thoughts under scrutiny to see if it can hold up, and if it doesn’t, they change their thinking to what is most logical.

This makes sense and might explain why people tell me I'm an arrogant asshole when I never gloat or speak highly of myself and without diminishing or denigrating the person I am speaking with.

Stupid people taught me the best lesson in life that has made everything go a lot smoother, the fact that being right is overrated. You notice how it’s easier to walk downhill rather than uphill. Somebody who is not on your level will always have an easier time bringing you down to their level than you can bring them up to yours.

I can't tolerate people thinking they are oversmart and bringing down my logical points by just saying NO. I'm alone, and sad, can't tolerate anymore.

I’m always listening and keeping my opinions to myself because I don’t think I’m that smart because I compare myself to people I think are. I am no idiot and I’m smart enough to stay out of certain conversations.

I’m actually quite the opposite. I underestimate myself and convince myself that I am dumber than most, even when I have the top spots in my grades. I didn’t even know I was an active learner until someone pointed it out! And I’m carrying my Sophomore classmates with Geometry as a Freshman! Oh, I guess I am a little less dumb than I thought.

I remembered when I was still back in my native born first country before coming to the US, there was once I was in the unforgettable conversation with a woman, a "friend" or "a colleague" if I should put her as is, I don't want to be rude to put her as stupid, but I do think she is.........she tiredlessly argue with me cordless phone are only cell phones! NO, cordless phone can also be cell phones and also landline phone. But, back then at least 25 years ago when landline phones were still used widespread, and cell phones or mobile phones were just at the start; people have two types and cordless phones were just started to put into use. At that time, I see cordless phones were both landline and cell phones or back then people call mobile phones. However, my colleague fiercefully argued with me just to shut my mouth so she could win the argument that cordless phones, to her opinion, was only used for mobile phones! I of course shut up, and she "convincingly" believed she won the argument!

I am standing on a sidewalk watching two people argue. At first, I could tell right away that one was an intelligent person and the other one was an idiot. After awhile I was no longer able to tell who was who.

If I had an argument with an idiot every single one would literally challenge into a 1v1 irl fight, considering we're in the school campus, I can tell who's an idiot and who's not, because the rules are literally there and I just don't want any more trouble than I already have

I don't think that I lose an argument when failing to convince someone. I'm smart enough to know that I won't change anybody's mind. I simply can't stand by and let stupidity or bigotry go unchallenged.

Even as a child I was fascinated by stupid people that were not aware of their stupidity. Still fascinated by it to this day. Luckily I quite often notice how stupid I am. Since I learned about Dunning Kruger, I believe that is a good thing.

I can relate to this video. I am pursueing a career in Academia, but I constantly doubt my worth and knowledge, but people still come to me for advice and teachings. But I really dislike argueing with stupid people who are dead set on something idiotic and I ofte just leave them, cause I feel its a waste of my time.

I run into this all the time with 1967 Patterson Gimlin BIgfoot film. I've studied physical anthropology in college and can say for certain that the figure in the Patterson film is a real creature. Yet some people who have zero understanding of biomechanics, human anatomy or costume design ( especially the limits of 1967 technology ) insist that the figure in the film is just a 'man in the suit', regardless of how much I try to explain its non-human body ratios and walking pattern ( which is not possible to replicate 0. Frustrating!! lol

One of the things I've learned in life is how little I know about a lot of things, every time I learn something new, it opens up doors to a whole lot of different things that I realize I know very little about, I guess is true what they say about ignorance and having no idea how ignorant a person can be.

I agree with most of this. When I meet someone more intelligent, like a scientist, I just want to ask them a lot of stuff. It doesn’t intimidate me for as far as I know.

This is so critically important to understand and implement. This is precisely why I prefer no company or the company of myself as opposed to the company of others...

People need to see that admitting you’re wrong makes you look good in a whole other way. I’d say it’s more worth it than to have been right in the first place. Sure you don’t look smart, but you look like a cool mature person who isn’t stressed over small social interactions.

This has given me a decent amount of insight, due to perceiving myself as less intelligent I can appreciate when I show to myself that I at least know more than stupid people.

One time i was in a argument with another student and he said if he was on the moon he would choose a inflatable boat over oxygen. He wouldn't stop defending his opinion until the teacher stepped in.

I am of the belief that I know nothing, and I find it confusing that so many more seem to know even less.

In all honesty my go to method in arguing with someone that I perceive as being ignorant or dumb is to just NEVER make any declarative statements. I love logic and reason and it's helped me so much in life so, instead, I'll choose to purpose questions where logic or reason is the primary method in answering them and see what I get from them in return. Usually, it's always a direct response attacking me with personal assumptions followed by an immediate block or announcing they don't need to spend any more time with me. I rarely if ever get a moment of victory but the actions I see them take can be interpreted as bowing out of the challenge and that's enough for me to avoid feeling insecure about my positions.
