I'm liking the looks of the Blue Hill UL [original or II models] as a base for the Ikea stove. The guy making them has posted on RU-vid--easy to find. The bolts are too unstable for me--especially on soft ground. The Blue Hill ring provides a good base, and allows air to come thru the bottom of the Ikea stove for better combustion. You can cut 3 slots in the bottom of the Ikea utensil holder into which the 3 tabs of the Blue Hill fit. Very stable; better burn.
Use the lid from a #10 can as a stove base. Helps protect surface from hot embers. Aids in ash clean up. Provides a stable platform on soft ground. It's also a multi-use item to stash in the stuff sack along with your stove.
Thanks Greg... Yes, the shorter legs offer a lot better stability. That's how I have my Ikeas set up as well. I pack my Stanley inside it, and the tent pegs, add a few vaseline cotton balls for tinder, a packet of fatwood and a packet of tongue depressors for ready and dry kindling, then put the whole thing in a sized stuff sack for carrying the sooted stove if need be.This way, I'm ready to light up in most conditions. Save the gas... burn the forest!
... /... , the idea is fine 100%. The contact base is VERY UNSTABLE BECAUSE IS NOT VERY LARGE . IT IS IN DIRECT CONTACT WITH OTHER SURFACES ; THEREFORE VERY DANGEROUS WHEN PUT IT ABLAZE . 4 NO. NO. NO. NO. I'm sorry .
