In the end, that's how we learn how our brains work as well. It's not nice, that's true. But maybe, one day, we might be able to cure or prevent Alzheimer's.
@Gildedmuse

I also raised my eyebrow at that like.... Okay, scientist. Just terrorizing innocent little birdies for fun now, are we? Hopefully, they were well cared for and given food if it became clear they couldn't find their own because we *destroyed parts of their brains*. Like, ai can see why scientist would be interested in the results, I'm just hoping someone thought of the birds.

Squirrels are urban gardeners!! I always cut back on feeding the squirrels at fall. So they can hide the walnuts from my backyard tree. It's good that they can have a back up storage. And during winter, I do end up putting out shell peanuts for the squirrels to find when digging in the snow while they search. The loose seed and nuts I throw out are for the birds and chipmunks. A mix for everyone though. Usually toss before the sun comes up. That way they eat early to help raise their body temp during the cold winter months. There is so much wildlife in our neighborhood. And competition for food gets crazy. Besides that I really enjoy watching them while having coffee. It's the little things... Be blessed everyone

One spring I found a tiny birds nest that was filled with safflower seed from my bird feeder. There are lots of chickadees here so I wonder if they are the ones who stashed the seed. But I have also found stashes of seed inside my charcoal grill & inside an upside down clay flower pot. One year I found a stash of corn seeds in my car. I suppose chickadees could have squeezed inside the grill or through the drainage hole in the pot. But no way they could have gotten to my car parked in the garage.

Happy Thanksgiving! I read that squirrels and Blue Jays helped reforest New England after the glaciers retreated by not finding all their acorns that they hid. Plus other seeds as well. If Chickadees and other birds have a consistent place to get their food such as feeders( feeders that are filled everyday thru the winter) do they still hide as much food? When I lived in the White Mt.s, all through the winter I made sure my feeders were full everyday as well as feeding a red squirrel that lived on my property(he kept the big Grey squirrels from destroying my feeders). I had more birds year round there than any other place I ever lived! They seemed happy. ☺ was this a good thing?
