Agreed. But as someone who felt I had to vote for the lesser of two evils and checked those boxes for Clinton and Biden, I've recognized that I'm going to start voting for my values again and will check the box for Jill Stein. If enough people voted their values over their fear of Trump or Biden, we might see a different result.

On the whole, I agree - *especially* the assertion regarding the world-wide relevance of economic and power considerations - but... If one group of people is saying "This land is ours", based on a voice in someone's head thousands of years ago, and that's a foundational aspect of their religion... it's a bit challenging to entirely write that one aspect off as *not* being religion, y'know?

However, I do believe that in most cases, especially in the example that you used, religion is being used as an excuse to achieve a specific political agenda. In order to make a settler-colonial project legitimate, religion had to be used to establish the right to statehood.

Because EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE DOING NOTHING WRONG, their faces have been put on billboards and government ( and I am sure foreign ie Izrayl) databases and that will affect their futures. They should be allowed to protect themselves from undue harassment at all times up to and until they are actually arrested and required to do a mug shot. Like any citizen they are entitled to cover their face ( no one complained about mask mandates covering up " criminals") provided they are not engaging in illegal conduct. By " illegal" I dont mean fake beat ups according to some protected class within US politics . This demonising of peacefully protesting people has been seen throughout US politics like anti Vietnam, civil rights movements, McCarthyism era. Peoples lives were devastated by being singled out for the political ideology of the day. So students masking- why not it's not illegal and it's for their protection. The question you need to ask is why you personally feel that it is a malignant symbol.

The (in essence) invasion of the mostly (white) European and Russian Zionists in the late 1800s / early 1900s. The intention of those Zionists (from the beginning) was to drive off or kill all of the indigenous majority-Arab Palestinian population so they could take all of Palestine for themselves. "A people without a land for a land without a people" completely ignored that existing majority Arab population. The Zionists came in as colonizers, much like European settlers did when "invading" North America and eventually committing genocide against the native peoples already here. *That* colonizing invasion, and the resulting attacks.

I don't know how generational the support for Palestine is. I'm almost 70 and a liberal, my ex-husband is also almost 70, conservative and we both support Palestine. We virtually never talk and came to the same conclusion that Israel is oppressing Palestine with the full support of the US.

61 year old here who strongly supports Palestine. My Jewish husband and our kids (all of whom consider themselves Jews) also are staunch supporters of Palestine. No one in our family believes terroristic, hypocritical, fascist Israel even has a "right" or need to exist in an ideal world; the people of the land there have a right to coexist in a just, democratic, humanitarian society.

As an Irish Christian Catholic American , I couldn't even imagine how I would cope or feel if my 'homeland' of Ireland and its President was responsible or in any way accused of the slaughter of innocent men, women and little kids. Resolution 181 (the proposed partitioning plan you mention) did also over-favor the new Israel-to-be. How? By suggesting a percentage of Palestine be given to them that exceeded the percentage of their existing population there (which they'd been working diligently to inflate for years). Predictably, the indigenous Palestinian Arabs cried foul, noting the illogical proportion allocated to the Zionists (based at least on population). Conversely, since the Zionists had intended to (eventually) take all of Palestine for themselves, they protested that the proposed proportioning was not enough. (!) Beyond that, the proposed partioning plan favored the Zionists with *better* land. Beyond *that*, when they declared themselves a state, the Zionists took even more than the U.N. plan had proposed.
