The biggest story during the 2021 Sprint Car season has been the suspension of World of Outlaws driver Aaron Reutzel after he and the Roth Motorsports team were found to be competing with a chassis deemed illegal by officials.
Toby caught up with the crew chief at the time - Dylan Buswell - to hear the truth behind the incident, get Dylan's take on the situation, and much more.

You were 100% right when you said he certainly didn't have to do this interview, my sincere thanks for him sacking up and doing it. It had to be uncomfortable. It sounds to me like they all got a little bit peeved by the Outlaw organization and then acted on emotion and a little irrationally by not considering the consequences of using an illegal car.

Sandblasting 15 pounds off a 135 pound frame? That’s very hard to believe. WOO teams spend thousands of dollars on titanium bolts to save a pound or two, and they don’t notice 15 pounds on one component? Also very hard to believe!

@SprintCarHub
@SprintCarHub 2 года назад
@@W4114C3 The chassis was legal when built in 2011 and passed tech inspections multiple times in the past as mentioned by Dylan in the video. As is common after sand-blasting, the wall thickness becomes less as the metal is taken off. Being a chassis from 2011, the chassis had been sand-blasted multiple times over the years.
@diychad7268
@diychad7268 2 года назад
@@SprintCarHub yeah not sure that sandblasting excuse holds much water because there are many different mediums you can use in a sandblaster and there are mediums that would take paint /powder coating off but not be abrasive enough to go at the metal of the tubing, that is unless you purposefully meant to use a medium abrasive enough to do so, so what I'm guess I'm saying is you could be right on the sandblasting part and that sandblasting was the cause of the tubing becoming thinner but I am saying if that is the case then it was done on purpose and whatever specific medium was used to sandblast was chosen to take some of the metal with it
@mjriemen
@mjriemen 2 года назад
@@SprintCarHub I dont know if powder coating and sand blasting the car multiple times could take much wall thickness away from the tubing. I absolutely believe the chassis was legal when built and also legal when it passed tech previously. I dont believe anyone uses or has used sand to blast a car in a very long time. Companies that do these things all use bead blasting. I suppose someone could still have an actual “sand” blaster in their own shop somewhere. My point I suppose is they were told not to run the car. So whatever the reason, even if there is no good reason why they are not allowed to run that chassis, they knew if they ran it they could get caught. I dont think it was in any way malicious or that they thought it was “cheating”. Unfortunately if the Outlaws say dont run that chassis and you get caught running that chassis, with a tech sticker from a different chassis no less, then thats a very big problem as we all saw. I’d really like to see a throughly detailed explanation of what was wrong with the chassis and why it passed tech previously.

@@SprintCarHub I guess what folks have the question is how did that necessarily happen, was the tech specifications before as to where a thinner tubing was legal or has it always been the same and something on the chassis changed from then until now, because if everything has been the same then it would still pass tech so one of the two factors either the tech specs or the chassis itself changed, and which one of those factors changed was not really addressed

@@diychad7268 The chassis wall thickness changed, not the rules.

I bet you spent several minutes scratching off the technical sticker and placing it on the frame yourself that’s cheating right there what other team do you know puts on technical stickers on there frame. You cheated and you know you cheated and you will always be known as a cheater
