It's not a crime to lose interest in competing at tennis, it's a very tough business. If she can't play at her best then it's probably time to hang it up. No problem! I really enjoyed watching her win her majors and I wish her well.

She did not lose interest , if you believe what she says in interviews, she want to win more Grand Slams and a Gold medal. Her PR teams does a good job spinning the news and adding these videos to make it seem like she is preoccupied with other things. IT seems they created the boyfriend (rumored gay man )to make it seem like she fell in love with him and that is why her game level dropped. LMAO HE is the same guy who was in likely a fake marriage to Kiira Korpi who (recently admitted to liking women) for endorsements and sponsorships they do this Hollywood bullshit for some. Kiira even spoke about the consequences of bringing unwanted attention to a brand or sponsorship. Her tennis is not as great b/c of the newer ladies have mobility and variety. I cant see her developing into a better player , she is here for the money and endorsements. That guy looks like he is there for the money as well. I get Such gay vibes from both . Show me one straight male who worked in fashion , for Tom Ford. I would love to see one. Phony engagement , with tiny ring for a millionaire .

Tennis is tough. This is one of the reasons I find it so appealing. I won't speculate on Muguruza. The mental toughness it takes to get and stay at the top of tennis is astounding. That's why the "Big 3" on the men's side was so freakish. Three guys with all it takes at the same time? Crazy.

@@patlor0416 Because the men's record was 14 Grand Slams and then we had 3 guys win 20 slams each effectively simultaneously. If one guy won 20, it would be a big deal. Muguruza is one of my favorites in the WTA along with Clijsters and Halep out of the last generation of players. But age and stress of the sports catch up with everyone. Muguruza is a big powerful player and she didn't move particularly well even in her prime. Her powerful game was able to create success for her, but powerful game doesn't sustain very long except when it comes to Serena Williams. That's true even for man players on the ATP. Overall, she reached number 1, is a multiple grand slam winner. I think she wasn't overrated or overhyped, she deserves those accolades that she earned.

@@markuse3472 you're probably right, but at the same time I couldn't think of too many other WTA players who got the same play style like Muguruza. Perhaps in the previous generation Lindsay Davenport and Amelie Mauresmo played like that with a big physical presence but not particularly well rounded around the court. Both of them had similar overall career results (world number 1 and couple of slams). In ATP, Del Potro is a very similar case with a big physical presence and a very similar career path where injury kept sidelining him.

This my thought also...Serena had mental toughness....so many on women's tour are skilled players,but their stamina is questionable....i saw a match bet Sharapova and Bouchard at 2017 Madrid...it was an instant classic....Bouchard had a lot to say about Maria on her doping so Maria was out for blood....it was one of best matches i'd ever seen...the tension was palpable and the lead changed so often you did not know who was going to win....Bouchard played out of her mind and eventually won the match....i knew she was going to lose the next and she did...she expended so much to win that her tank was empty....Stamina....she just didn't have anything left....Serena played these type matches and she came back just as competitive next match..of course she is not the only one...Ostapenko,with her terrible behavior,has stamina and will to win....Swiatek,Kostyuk,Graf,Hingis etc....Ons is another one lacking stamina/will...she fights hard,gets to the final and just collapses...Sabalenka just gave a master class on how its done...

Not a big surprise : big tall fearless hitter of the ball as a 21 yr old. Her game was simple - big hard strokes from the back court - and decent serve - coupled with good movement. But her game always was a one demensional bread n butter style - little variety other than from back court. So add 4 or 5 yrs - slower and no improvment in variety - suddenly there are 50 other women who can play as good as her best day. Same fate for Osaka, Kenin, Ostipenko and the like. All shone at 20, but with little vareity in their base games - suddenly not a quick and having to work much harder to win. 98 % in the womans game play the same style of tennis. They are like watching a video game At least both the Williams sisters could volley !!

The seasons are too long. There are far more tournaments than there have ever been. The amount of training required to stay at peak performance weighs heavy on the mind and body. A huge issue is mental burnout. I worked for years at IMG Academy and Saddlebrook Resort’s Hopman Academy and saw how tough the day to day preparation is far beyond what 95% of the people who play tennis know. The toughest part is the mental part. Never being home, always feeling pressure, always worrying about the competition and living up to your own expectations and desires, etc. It is truly mentally taxing but extremely fun and rewarding at the same time.
@nt4081
@nt4081 8 месяцев назад
bullshit. The top players can play only the mandatory tournaments. The seasons are not too long when #1 and playing well and when you are hungry, trying to make a living. What should happen is do away with million dollar sponsorships. Make it a little less , keep them humble and in the competition. Emma and some of the others got too much too soon. Did not prove themselves . The athletes do not play well too often. They spend too much time on social media trying to be relevant, and interesting, they care only about the money and fame. Some have become rich and forgot what got them the money in the first place. But, Mugu's agent will do his best to ensure there is positive media coverage. That includes having people flag unfavorable comment . I certianly hope X allows people to express what they want without blocking. Oska has more talebnt than Mugu, is younger and is not trying to hide her sexuality. Osaka will be back and has grown up. Mugu will stay in the closet with her "beard" so called partner until her million dollar contracts are over. Just like his ex-wife Kira Korpi . All maneuvering ,social media , and image management for $$$

The reality of sports is, not everyone who is a top player wants to be the Greatest of the sport. Some just want to achieve a certain level and they are happy with that. I don’t know if that is her case or not but when you add in personal problems, physical and the most important mental it easy to see how some at the very top fall off. People are much harder on Osaka than they are on Muguruza which I find unfair but all of this aside it just shows me how outstanding Serena Williams career was. She dealt with all of this and so much more and still rose to the occasion for decades! A true GREATEST OF ALL TIME.

I think part of the reason is that after Serena's dominance and with the multi-slam rivalry in the men’s, whenever a woman wins a couple of slams we hope that they go on to win several, as in at least a half dozen or so. But consistency in the women’s is extremely difficult. I’d say a combination of best of three with greater strength in depth compared to decades ago.

Something is going on with the WTA. There are too many players who are burning out and showing signs of mental breakdown. Sabalenka is ranked high but can in a moment's notice turn against herself and implode. Same with Rybakina. Raducanu forgot how to enjoy tennis. She is far too serious. Every little thought is self critical and introspective. If I were coaching her, I would tell her to forgive herself, hire her first coach, forget the nitty gritty of this and that, and go play to have fun. Natural enthusiasm is the art of remembering your innocence.

It is hard to overstate the intense levels of competition in the WTA today compared to even just a few years ago- an amazing increase in physical strength and stamina, for example, so that if a player is not almost 100% committed, like a Sakkari or a Swiatek, she stands almost no chance any more.

Yeah I followed her pretty closely after her French Open win and became a fan. In 2018 a lot of her fans started noticing that she was spending so much time on endorsements which is fine but you have to question if she was putting the time into improving her game. The main problem is that her game completely stalled. She was a big server and hit big groundstrokes but never added variety to her game. She was terrible at slicing and dropshots and she didn't have a net game which is so surprising considering she did well in doubles. And she just wasn't all in mentally. This isn't a knock on her but she wasn't mentally tough. Whenever she was playing bad, you can tell she didn't want to be there. She couldn't overcome tough situations on the court which is why she would often lose big if she went down a break or a set. I'm not sure if you saw but she recently said that she has no intention of returning to tennis which might be the best for her honestly.

And payers noticed that , Jabeur did that at wimbledon 2021 With a lot of dropshot slices she didn't let garbine dictate the game Wich is so frustrating for a player who's game focuses only on power and on being agressive She has no variety at all She's like sharapova when it does not click she keeps adding more power wich leads to her losing so much matches She is talented but she struggles against players that bring variety And doesn't play that monotone powerful tennis Overall I think she still got some in her to win another major If she has the right team behind her and if she feels her self She could defently achieve that

Her workout routine was crazy extensive , she would document it all on her Instagram page .I would always say she needs to put as much into getting her mental toughness together as she does the physical. Didnt even need to watch this. I can tell you straight away what the problem is. Her team. Garbi has great possibilities, and COULD have been so much more. But her team sent her out onto the court with underdeveloped serves, for starters. She is tall, and SHOULD be bombing the serve at least 10-20 kph faster for her height. Also, a well developed second serve would give her more spin and more margin over the net, allowing her to target wider corners (especially on the ad court), dragging the opponent out wide, and opening the court for the +1 finish. Also, she has a terrible attitude. She doesnt listen when given constructive criticism. Her mental side could have done with a lot of work. I also think she isnt given great tactical advice in anticipation of specific opponents. There have been many matches where she has gone and played the exact same style of match, despite very different opponents, which is crazy to give up the advantage like that. I bring all of that back to her having a team that is not strong enough to force her to change, learn, and grow.

You said it most with no variety in her game, she can't problem solve. Serena Williams had like six weapons, even if four were off, Serena playing at 50% capacity could get her through most matches. When on, Garbine was at like 95-100%, but if she dropped off, she rarely recovered and often slipped more, allowing others, who shouldn't really beat, her win. Serena could make 60 UEs and still win the match, but GM just didn't have that ability. I

Muguruza was a powerful player but despite her even head to head record against Serena Williams she is not mentally as tough as Maria Sharapova, Sharapova despite her poor record against Serena William was mentally tougher than Muguruza thus she was more successful and had better longevity. I don't know about her being overhyped but I think for her game and combine with her mental weakness winning 2 grand slam and getting to No.1 means she probably has max out her potential rather underachieving.

Many issues pointed out here I've been saying for years. She needed to dump Conchita a long time ago. It wasn't working. She wasn't motivating her and her game had become one-dimensional. She needs to develop a few more tools to compete with everyone on the WTA. She can't just hang back and hit winners. I think the year off is allowing her to settle her personal life, take her mind off the grind and demands to play her best tennis, and just evaluate what she wants to do going forward. With a new team and a husband rooting her on, she could find that spark again. She has a great attitude and great skills to do it. Now, why couldn't I have bumped into her for that selfie??!!

I believe she was introduced to him by her agent or she strolled into TOM FORD Store a block away from her hotel and he was in there. Perhaps they knew each other from a few years back, and he was playing the role of Kiira's husband. Mr Borges did a similar PR spill about when he met Kiira, it was also recorded and available online . He was carrying a few extra pounds then but it is him. This is his expertise marketing, Pr and managing image. Many people have stated he is gay in forums. It seems likely imo .

I recall her years ago describing the WTA as being like a cat-fight. She also described how lonely the tour was. I think her engagement will either bring her back to the tour or she'll start a family. Also, I think the game has changed in a way that doesn't favor her game- more lateral movement, more first strike big hitters. Adjusting to these changes might be beyond her mental/physical range. She had a great run tho. Might have had her fill of the WTA.

She is rumored lesbian and to portray her as a wholesome hetro they got the Beard Arthur. He did this for a far prettier, more feminine woman Kiira. As soon as Kiira's contracts were over, she comes out, on June 1 2023 on her IG. Yep, so you want to tell e he found another rumored lesbian athlete to get engaged to and she is happy to have to hide . He is rumored a gay man who worked for Tom Ford. Ok this is a great way to deal with sexuality and a career that demands your mental focus. Dari k can play freely, Martina Navratolva said it freed her as well. Lets see, lots of lesbians want kids, her best buddy Carla had one and lives with a woman, so I can see her getting a sperm donation form Mr Beard, but they are not really a couple in love.

Thanks for the video - a true and factual account of Garbine's tennis story so far. It was clear to see that defeat after defeat had taken its toll and she'd lost her confidence completely. I agree that Garbine needs to introduce more variety into her game, as it had become very one dimensional and predictable. She's enjoying life away from the tour, but I really hope that, with the help of a new coach, she returns re-energised and motivated to get back to winning ways.

@darkrai7597
@darkrai7597 5 месяцев назад
She said in a recent interview that she has no intention of returning to tennis so she might be retired. I think we all agree the main problem was the lack of variety in her game. Her whole game was dependent on big serving and trying to overpower her opponents. But almost every female tennis player cannot serve well consistently and she's not going to hit through her opponents all the time, definitely not the top players. She had a very bad slice and dropshot, she rarely came to net and even when she did it wasn't good which is surprising considering her success in doubles. And another big problem was she wasn't mentally tough. Whenever her game was off, you can tell she was deflated and had no motivation to win. There have been several times where she was crying and didn't look like she wanted to be out there. At this point, I don't think a coach can save her. It's true that she has a bad reputation which we saw with her previous coaching relationships. I think if she's happy with her life right now, then she needs to just step away from tennis. She's made more than enough money and probably is a hall of famer (although she doesn't have many titles outside of her two majors). No need to damage her health to continue playing a sport she doesn't love.

For me it's pretty simple. Muguruza's A game is one of the best in the game when on although she only has her A game. You told it yourself, she has no variety and panics when her A game is not working cause she knows she isn't A problem solver and her tennis IQ is rather low. Even risky players like Kvitova have touch, slices, net game and can solve tennis riddles on court. Muguruza is in the same ball park with Sabalenka, Sharapova and Ostapenko, we all know how it can go south when their game isn't working. The only difference is they don't let it affect their self esteem (besides the serve fiasco with Sabalenka) and even Sharapova brought more margin in her game to make her A game work for her on bad days. Conclusion: A game doesn't work -> in her head-> continues to doubt-> lose self esteem -> lose motivation cause she cannot play the game she wants -> frustration-> starting to hate the sport she ones loved

I think she is living a lie. That guy is rumored gay, he married a skater who was under pressure to stay in the closet for her sponsorships. As soon as she was in the clear, she uncoupled with rumored gay guy Arthur and announced she like women. very odd that she was 10x better looking and more feminine that Mugu and they never had kids. Doubt that marriage was real. Carla Navarro had a baby so it is possible he can donate, but its all an illusion. . Maybe you should Read Kiira's interviews from a few years back. She talks about how as an athlete they can be sued for drawing negative attention to the brand, and in her case as the Gold girl of Finnish skating, being lesbian was not a good thing. she is free now and I believe he served his purpose, and is likely being paid to show up at functions with Mugu and pretend to be her fiance. This guy did'nt even give her a decent looking ring. Fake. Then of course the agent arranged a short pR stunt on ABC. So now you fools believe its real. He worked for Tom Ford, was a model and they agree its a selfie that got them together. He has connections, probably represented by the same agency IMG and I would not be surprised if he had been introduced in 2019 with Mugu , when he showe up at the US OPen with so called wife Kiira. I think he and Kiira were roomates that is all, and Mugu is his lesbian girlfriend , and Borges is her gay boyfriend. IMO, Skirt and Beard trying to pull off a romance.

Excellent video and summary. I love her game and always wonder why she doesn't win every match. She has the complete package. But I know nothing about her personally. A distant view of her I see a kind hearted person. Not necessarily the best place for a competitive tennis player. I think she has to decide how far she has to dig psychologically to get back to the court against younger and hungrier women. I think the tour is NOT a healthy place for her natural disposition. I'm glad she has a boyfriend and hope she can find happiness and maybe have a family. If she were my daughter??? I'd recommend calling it a career. Watching Venus and Caroline makes me very uncomfortable. Especially since they steal spots with wildcards from women who actually need the money. If they want to play and compete, why can't they go play the smaller events to fulfill their competitive fires??? Does Garbine have the fire to get back to top form???? I think Garbine he has been Amazing for a long time. What's the upside from here though? Actually more downside imo, like losing possible relationships. Tennis is a grind more than any other sport. Win or go home. Kill or be killed. Tennis ain't pro basketball with guaranteed contracts. It's WAR everyday. She seems like a great person. I wish her happiness. Her smile is the best!!!
