Soderling had a huge problem with his backhand though. in a match. Soderling needs to use the pointing finger-trick above the thumb on the racquet, and do so whenever he feels like it. That is a part to djokovic's success. When the pointing finger is above the thumb, ofcourse it sometimes must be some space between the pointing finger and the thumb. Why? Because It is more comfortable.
Soderling you are a great player and nothing can ever change that. Your journey was just different and you were extremely courageous to have embraced it. Thank you for sharing it and for this video! Best wishes with your health and continued success ❤️
The EB virus was also devastating for me at the age of 21. It almost killed me, and then left me the same type of joint and fatigue as the immune system turned against my body. As a christian, idedicated many years of my life to helping people live a healthy lifestyle mentally, physically and spiritually.
Same here at the age of 32 - but as a Christian I believe (know) that this life is short anyway and God planed an eternal life for us without sickness etc. Making the best out of this life is crucial anyways. So congrats you for helping other people etc.
In my top 5 of best players to never win a grand slam. Genuinely felt he was going to win one between 2011 - 2013. He was finally starting to gain consistent aggression similar to Del Potro at his best but more dangerous on the backhand side. Such a sad ending to his career.
If I was a player I'll be running after Magnus Norman to coach me. He did wonders to Soderling AND Wawrinka. Soderling made 2 finals and Wawrinka won 3 titles with him.
He should have taken it very easy in his free time when he wasn't playing tennis. In other words, do like Djokovic and Nadal. His body collapsed from the stress/pressure.
That's the issue it was for players in that era, if you beat one of them the Novak, Nadal, Federer were likely waiting for you in the next round that's what made it so hard.
Petra Kvitova. Of course, she just worked hard and got herself back on court in 7 months after several surgeries and intense rehab. And never once has she used the attack as an excuse for her career results or to denigrate other more successful players.
One of the greatest players who had never won a slam. The biggest hitter I watched in real time. That man was serving cannons and the ball literally hit advertisement board behind the court and the left a hole on it.
It is a sad story, but you have to keep your perspective...he still had a great career, accomplished much more than most pro tennis players will ever hope to, and now he seems to be healthier, happy and living a good life, and he's only 39 years old and certainly has a great life still ahead of him.
Sadly to know that he was not able to compete. I was wondering what happened to him, after reading this message from you and know he is ok but not able to see him play again. All the best, Soderling
Darn EB virus destroyed at least 5 years of my life, attacking the brain and the body. In sports and life you just need to be lucky, and take care of yourself in any way
You need to get a better grasp of the word tragic and the context in which it's used. This is not it. Solderling was unlucky and unfortunate that his illness cut his career short but it's not tragic. No one died and as far as we know he's doing just fine - healthy, beautiful wife and family, well off financially. Please explain how that is tragic?? Stop sensationalising.
Tragic can be used. Many words in the English lexicon have multiple meanings. Tragic: causing or characterized by extreme distress or sorrow. Sorrow: a feeling of deep distress caused by loss, disappointment, or other misfortune suffered by oneself or others. This proves tragic is a correct term.
I agree with you, tragedies play over another scale. As matter of fact the word comes from the greek theatrical representation, where characters were facing disastrous situations threatening not only their whole life but also that of others.
He was one of very few who could beat all of them, tho rarely. Only man to win b2b olimpic golds (federer has none), and multiple GS and masters 1,000 winner, year end #1 and god knows how many top 5 years. Some had to be # 4 man🤣🤣 after him you couldn't find almost anyone who would win anything beyond a 500
@@GeneralP123 Wawrinka has better record than Murray in my opinion. Sure, murray has won more atps and masters than Wavrinka. But wawrinka has a way better h2h in slams vs djokovic compared to murray's h2h in slams vs djokovic.
No one thinks Murray is in the same league as the BIG3. But Murray's presence is essential when describing the golden era from 2011 to 2016. That era is more appropriately described as "Big 4 and the rest" than "Big 3 and the rest".
the soderling in that day wat something out of this world for real.never seen some like this the crushing forehands to beat nadal spin. u n b e l i a b l e.
This is a pattern emerging. The tragic story of Kyrgios is just the same. Terrible pressure from himself, his country and the media, then social media, meant that he could not bear to lose and then became so depressed and suicidal that he became injured all the time. Now not playing but commentating he is contributing to the sport that he loves. How many other great sportspersons will end up like this as pressure forces them into extra depression? We need to care for them.
I think Kyrgios just crumbles when people have high expectations of him. It is very fitting that he made a grand slam final in the only year no one received any ranking points. It did nothing for his ranking. Very disappointing because he is extremely talented.

Federer's variety and immense skill allow him to win matches against guys who are playing the best match of their life and whose style matches up so well with him.
I have meet Robin a lot of times. And what he told me was that it was anxiety and depression which made him quite. He is still struggling with burnouts. If you want to now more you can read his book “slut” (which means End in Swedish) I don’t now if the book is translated in Swedish. But it he said that he was ashamed of his mental illness and that only crazy people are mentally ill. But now his opinion has changed because society is more accepting of mental illnesses.
There are two players who could have made things harder for the fantastic trio if they hadn't had injuries : Del Potro and Soderling. If these two had continued playing their best tennis, the fantastic trio could not have finished with such enormous number of titles
I feel like this video is undermining the amount of anxiety and panic attacks he suffered. He released a book like a year ago going deeper into the subject and you really feel for the guy.
I was not familiar with this. Tough story and wise decision to focus on family and life health, Wish you to stay healthy and accept that you did nothing wrong but not anything can be controlled by us
Not too sad, a life I would say at least he reached the highest point of his life, how many of you has ever done ? If I were Solerling I would look back and feel so satisfied and get on with better development in other aspects
I watched that match when Nadal lost to Soderling and i was so happy because i have wanted so bad for Federer to win Roland Garros cause i know it might be his only chance to win hos only FO. When Federer won I was so relief.
Federer needs to celebrate Soderling, and keep his picture in his dining room!!! 😅😂If Soderling didn’t take Nadal out, Federer will never, ever win 1RG!!! He should pay him money for that!!!😅
As a tennis athlete at US University I contracted mono, same thing he soderling got. I had to take 3 months from exercising otherwise my organs would burst. So it’s serious but if you look after yourself you should make a full recovery.
And have you ever played nadal? In 2007 and onwards, nadal used to take longer time between the serves than the other players prefered the players to take.
@@scottwarren4998 All within the rules, and nobody complained. Djokovic also took a massive amount of time between serves, bouncing the ball endlessly. Why aren't you including him in your petty rant?
You are wrong. We were many who liked him. He was not playing to please the crowds. He was a fierce competitor, a real fighter and a joy to watch. His forehand was an absolute killer and his career ended far too soon.
Sod didn’t win against Nadal fairly, but by using dirty gestures and words to make his rival angry and distracted from the game itself. Sod is shameless, I don’t know how he could work as trainer for anyone. He put dirt on his country reputation.
The truth is, Rafas mindset wasn't completely there. He struggled with the separation/upcoming divorce if his beloved parents. He's a very devoted family guy and this had a massive negative impact on him.
