From Wimbledon Champion to... Jail Time?
Boris Becker wasn’t just any player, but a worldwide sporting icon, having bursted onto the international tennis scene as the youngest ever male player to win Wimbledon. As one of the richest athletes in the world at the height of his success, how exactly did Boris Becker squander his vast $170 million fortune so badly that he now sits in jail because of it? As you can imagine, the problems began way earlier than most realize.

Time and your body work together for a short time so take advantage of yourself when your young if it's physical. Sucess is what you do for others not what you did to yourself. He and John McEnroe disposed of the myth of the unbeatable two-handed player, though the USTA and foreign countries invested heavily in the back-court all-day retriever. Becker was a super all-court player ahead of Roger Federer. Borg mysteriously 'retired' early for the reason above and the fact that his personal life, after-hours or not, was catching up to him too! The back-court players today are fit but lack the all-court skills, extremely emotional for only averaging 29 serious matches per year. You can watch a 5-set match where both players never lobbed! Like many famous people, e.g. Brian Wilson, Terry Thomas, many boxers, they are subject to the parasite class of accountants and lawyers that move in those circles, constantly plotting how to get rich themselves. Bad advice becomes horribly expensive. I hope BB recovers and we see and hear him again especially at Wimbledon.

Not gonna lie, when I heard he was gonna do jail time I was saddened. Becker was a hero of mine growing up in late to mid 80’s. The guy was (is) a legend. I was torn when he was playing Agassi tbh. Two legends. So when it had got so bad that Boris was actually gonna do time inside I was genuinely sad. Just a pity he couldn’t have avoided it 😢

Back in the late 80s, there was an article in the newspaper that said that EIGHTY PERCENT of NBA players were broke five years after leaving the game. SEVENTY PERCENT of football players, and fifty percent of baseball players. At the time, the AVERAGE NBA player was making almost 3 million dollars a year in 1980s money!....probably eight million in today's money.....When young men make all that money and have all that adulation and temptation, many of them never really learn how to handle it....and many times, the people who handle their money rip them off. Boris was world famous at 17....It's not surprising he's had some tough ups and downs since.....

True talent is rare. The gifted person becomes so natural in his/ her trade. When showered with millions he finds it strange to be bombarded with such millions out of an easy as ABC activity. Hence he/ she is likely to lose most of it if not all of it easily. I may sound ridiculous but truly : easy come easy go. He deserve a support from his former sponsors. The tennis world should never let a good man down. He is still a star we can refer to when we talk tennis
