The destination is clear... to have our money make more money! But what's considered a "good" return? And what's the best way to get there?
Update and Corrections: Around 4:00 we mentioned "TreasuryDirect.org". That should have been "TreasuryDirect.gov". Sorry about any confusion!

I don't like the analogy personally. With investments a longer time horizon means you can take bigger risk. With a longer voyage you want to take less risk. 10 years in the market and you'll do well and better than safer options. Trying to do 10 years in choppy waters guarantees that you swim with the fishes.

I think another major form of risk that wasn't really touched on was liquidity or lack there of. Many of those option lock you in for a certain amount of time so it makes it risky if something major happens and you need that money now. Or, more importantly, if the interest rates increase but you're locked in at that smaller rate. You could be missing out

Oh my goodness, this is just too adorable Two Cents! Well done! You've taken the complex subject of investing and made it nice and easy, and entertaining to digest. I agree wholeheartedly that we need to have a little in all places. and I LOVE that you mentioned to use the saving account just for those rainy day, easily liquid-able, reasons only. My advice for viewers here would be to use the sound advice the Two Cents have laid out so beautifully in this video and then also seriously consider starting a plan B, business idea of your own. What are your talents, hobbies or interests that you know a lot about and that your would have loved to know when you were just getting started? Start there, make a list and then see what ideas come to mind. Maybe one day you'll do so well that your business idea will be in the top 500 businesses that others invest in too!

If you have an idea, make that idea HAPPEN and start investing. Trust me, it'll be worth it! :) Hi guys! Let me just share with you a quick story. We own a cookie shop business in our college town. When we first started it, we were living in our car with very little direction, just a huge passion to be successful. We just graduated college as well. We started the late night cookie shop out of a local bagel shop in their off hours at night. We were living in our car in the parking lot of the shop at the time with my boyfriend, Bran. It was a crazy experience but it worked! We became a success! And now we have 2 storefront locations in New Jersey and Florida! We started it to fund a year long backpacking trip around the world and to be successful while living the life of our dreams.

Per treasurydirect.org: "I-bonds can be held for as little as one year or as long as 30 years, but if they are sold after fewer than five years, the holder sacrifices the last three months worth of interest." You literally cannot withdraw the money before 1 years time. And if you withdraw before 5 years you will forfeit three months worth of interest, which is honestly not much of a penalty at all. I like the better returns the S&P offers. When I retire I plan on continuing in investing in the S&P but keep at least a six month rainy day fund in short term bonds so if the market crashes I will be able to weather a six month term. But as long as the market is mostly stable I will draw from the S&P fund. Now if I do need to draw from my rainy day fund most likely I would cut my spending to stretch the money out longer. I am also only counting on a 5% anual return from the S&P so as to be more safe.

Love y’all! You’re giving me a ton of financial confidence! One question I’m running up against: the difference between (local) banks and credit unions. Why can I get better loan rates at credit unions? Are there disadvantages or penalties for having bank accounts and credit union loan(s)? I’m only seeing advantages in credit unions, but that can’t be if banks are thriving - so what’s the deal?? Noticed the Bank vs Credit Union video after this comment - hence the edit. But I’m referring exclusively to LOCAL banks vs. credit unions. I’ve lived exclusively in Texas and Oklahoma my whole life (barring my 2 years abroad during Peace Corps service) including rural and urban homes, but I’ve only ever noticed friends from the northeast using a national banks (which led to a fun conversation at an ATM where I was confused why it was SO important it be a branded ATM). I may be a bit naive. Is this a “rural” issue? Are more densely populated areas “banking” differently? (I didn’t mean for it to be a second suggested video, but I’m not upset if you talk about urban vs. rural financial options!)

Definitely do it if you can. Buy a house or condo and take in a roommate or family member to help you pay off your mortgage faster.

4:00 No, the S&P 500 is not simply the largest 500 corporations in the US. They're selected via committee.

Funny to see that 4 years ago, we questioned if it was a good time to invest since it was in all time high. And we’re now in all time high and still questioning the same thing lol

To all the people who kept asking why two cents used 7-8 percent interest in their long term goals. Now you know why....😁

Really great video and using the pirate and nautical flair made it relatable. Where I work one guy I know is making 19.4% in 2019. They match 3% of their money when you invest 6%. Then each year you get 2% ok while sum in April/may. I won’t go any further in that but grateful to be there and can’t wait to see future growth.

Something that needs to be stated with risk based investments is that most investors are going to be buying into these in multiple small pieces over time, at different price points, not all in one shot. If you are contributing to a 401K or similar plan out of every paycheck, you are already doing such. This practice will mitigate some of that risk. Granted, it will also mitigate your returns.

they corrected it in the desc Update and Corrections: Around 4:00 we mentioned "TreasuryDirect.org". That should have been "TreasuryDirect.gov". Sorry about any confusion!
