In this video, Tom, Professional Hoofcare Specialist, is Back in the repair shop to fix up the crush but he takes us to see a cow that also needed a fixed-up this week. Multiple layers of the hoof with muck trapped inside, it's important for tom to get this cleaned up and get this cow on the way to recovery...

Doesn't it feel better when your fix is as good as new. I know when I mess something up, or when something is messed up, I fuss until it's fixed. Sorta like the hooves.

Cows, like horses, carry 60% of their weight on the front end. However, cows commonly have serious foot problems on their back feet, where I almost never see horses develop abscesses on their back feet. In over 50 years I can remember only one horse with an abscess on his back foot and that was because he stepped on a nail. Tom, I would love to know what your theory is behind cows propensity to developing sole fractures and such on their back feet. Especially considering that cows lie down significantly more than horses do.

Yep, it's important to keep things maintained. That small repair might have prevented a lot of expensive damage. The last thing you need is an electrical short. The cow's hoof was an unusual one. Not an infection or dermatitis. Just gunk getting in where it didn't belong. A lot like the crush. A little maintenance now preventing big problems down the road.

you can definitely see the difference in the technique between this older Trimmer and the Younger one. The younger trimmer is so rough and imprecise with his cuts.. it's actually hard to watch... especially compared to the other Hoof Trimmers on youtube which are more in line with this older Trimmer's technique and pace.

I see people comparing how much better hoof gp does and he does do incredible work but the hoofs he works on is in much better condition then these Irish cows are. The farmers need to be more pro-active I could be wrong but these guys should get more respect
