Admittedly I'm not an expert, just watched a truckload of hoof videos, but from what I've gathered, it primarily comes down to personal preference. The Hoof GP uses it because it helps dry up tissue (so good for sole ulcers) and acts as an antiseptic. I don't believe I've heard of it providing pain relief (at least I've never heard them say that's a reason they use it, and having used iodine on a wound myself, can't say it did much). Salicylic acid, on the other hand, does provide some pain relieving properties, also helps to kill bacteria, and so forth. Meanwhile, Nate the Hoof Guy likes chlohexidine because it actually binds to the hoof material while providing antiseptic properties. But all three of these gents still use salicylic acid - just depends on the hoof ouchie.

Iodine does nothing for pain. Its a drying agent and that will promote healing which will mean less pain.

The claw is part of the hoof. With cows, the hoof will have 2 claws.

you mean upside down ? I wondered about that as well.. those holes we can see look like they are for the glue to provide a good key

@@textnotepro I disagree. Why fill the holes with glue? More like they are there for traction to keep her from slipping in the muck.
