I'd say the new requirements of reusability force these changes. They believe it is easier to achieve that by putting all the first-stage engines together as a whole than by taking them apart. The question now is, can 21st-century technology solve the problems of the old Soviet moon rockets?

@@DongfangHour Its actually different design iterations, and CASIC is experimenting almost all of them. Long March 9 is more like a project name and will be the name of the vehicle once vehicle is in production. For example, J-9 fighter had more than 5 different designs, technically they are all called J-9, but only the one that put into production will have the name of J-9. It is also possible to have almost entirely different design under one name, like J-8I is a fighter with nose intake, J-8II is a fighter with side intakes, the design is vastly different due to change of intake location, but both of them are called J-8. I will not be surprised if there are two variants of LM-9 in service, like LM-9I and LM-9II.

My view is the (11) version will be scrapped and the reusable 24x 240t kerolox engines will be the first variant, followed by the methalox variant. Notice that the 240t engine is exactly half the thrust of the dual-chambered 480t YF-130. I would guess there's a single chamber kerolox engine with 240t thrust being developed in parallel. Reusability is key to an economically viable super-heavy lift capability.

“The development of China's liquid rocket engine has good news. Yesterday, the first complete test run of China's largest thrust liquid rocket engine(500 tons) independently developed by the Sixth Institute of Space Science and Technology Group, as well as the first complete thermal test run of China's largest thrust 80-ton liquid oxygen methane engine, were a complete success.”--posted news on 05th, Nov.2022.
@feihuo7874
@feihuo7874 Год назад
A powerful rocket engine developed by China has passed a "milestone" test, according to a Nov. 6 report on the website of Hong Kong's South China Morning Post. China Aerospace Science and Technology Group (CAST) announced that the Sixth Institute of Aerospace Science and Technology (Sixth Institute) has successfully completed the first complete test run of China's largest thrust liquid rocket engine, saying the result is a milestone for China in building an aerospace power. The report said that on Nov. 5, the Sixth Academy of Aerospace completed the complete test run of the 500-ton liquid oxygen kerosene engine. The 500-ton liquid oxygen kerosene engine has about four times the thrust of the existing 120-ton liquid oxygen kerosene engine, according to the Sixth Aerospace Institute. The new engine's maximum thrust also exceeds that of Russia's RD-180 rocket engine - one of the world's most powerful liquid rocket engines currently in use. The development team of the Sixth Academy of Aeronautics and Astronautics said that after nearly 10 years of dedicated research and development, it has innovatively adopted a fully digital design and management model for the first time, breaking through a series of key and core technologies. The engine is expected to power the Long March 9 launch vehicle, the report said. China is developing the Long March 9 launch vehicle to send astronauts to the moon around 2030 and to set up a lunar research station around 2035 along with Russia and other potential international partners. Using this engine will give the Long March 9 a takeoff weight nearly six times that of the Long March 5. China used the Long March 5 on the Chang'e-5 launch mission in 2020 to successfully return samples from the lunar surface. In late October this year, China also used the Long March 5 to put the last module of the Chinese space station into orbit. A launch vehicle using this engine will also support China's space ambitions to explore Mars and other planets.

China is doing great in space. It reminds of the USA in the 1960's. Russia developed methane engines years ago. But decided not to use them. They must have had a good reason not to. Reusable rockets are the new craze. But look at the numbers for Falcon 9: expendable 65 million dollars with 25 tons to LEO, reusable 50 million dollars with 18 tons to LEO. Ten launches expendable = 650 million dollars with 250 tons to LEO. Fourteen launches reusable = 700 million dollars with 252 tons to LEO. Elon Musk lowered launch costs by mass production, not reusability. Of course, you can always say your new rocket will be much cheaper. but those are just words. It's interesting to note that Elon Musk just put Gwynne Shotwell in charge of the Starship program as well running the rest of SpaceX. I'm amazed by that woman, but not the Starship program. It'll be interesting to see what she does with it.

@aunggabe
@aunggabe Год назад
Bro, I have a serious question. We all know who will rule the space will rule the world. How far China is behind U.S space technology? Can combined technology of China and Russia match U.S? U.S is the only country to destroy whatever good stuffs we have on earth. They are surely weaponizing the space 2 decades ahead of China. They have F22 since 1998 while China and Russia actually deploy J 20 ,Su 57 in late 2010s. They have GPS since Reagan was in charge in early 1980s while GLONASS and BEIDOU are functional in 1990s and 2010s respectively. I believe the best defense is to have the best offense to deter the threat. So far the only leverage we have is different types of nuke delivery including hyper sonic missiles. NASA have been relatively unusually quiet for decades after moon landing and setting up GPS by space shuttles. Falcon X can carry dozens of low orbit satellites. Elon Musk is not in real position to control the whole project. Yankees use his name to avoid fierce rejection, condemnation and rapid competitions from Russia and China. How far do we develop laser like weapons to shoot down those lower orbiting starlink? Russia do really have capacity to jam them? China space station might need hundreds of attack and defense satellites surrounding it. funny world we live. We can not beat a virus but we are trying to destroy each other with exodus weapons. Pfizer has never completed proper research on COVID vaccine but make billions of dollars.That is the reason why they refuse to co research and co produce that vaccine together with Russia,China and India. Talk too much. Please provide me your knowledge on my first question; space technology and weaponizing. thanks.
