Ryen russillo kind of covered this yesterday. He was trying to make the point that after the top few pics having a high first round draft pick doesn't amount to much. He pointed out how many people in the recentt years drafts are no longer with the team that drafted him. He definitely included this class.
I remember here in Detroit I really really really thought they were going to draft Devin booker. I thought he had the most offense of upside of any player that was available. At the time I wasn’t thinking he was going to be a superstar, but I was hopeful he could be maybe a Vinny Johnson type. Stan Van Gundy wanted a shooter and well he chose to draft for need rather than the best player available and he really reached on Luke Kennard. I do not think Detroit regrets it anymore. Detroit was able to trade Luke Kennard for Sadik bay and that is pretty impressive. I do not know if Sadik will ever reach Devin booker level, but I think he is going to be an all-star at some point.
KP take was weak. He doesn't want to relive NY days, he said as much in an interview with Latvian media. He cares more about winning than being that Guy in the team. And all that jealousy and stuff around him and Luka are unsubstantial takes from media who just want to start scandals for the clicks
At the time, the Lakers should have drafted Jahlil at 2 instead of D'Lo. It just made more sense back then. Based on how their roster was constructed in 2015.
Jahlil would probably be a good player right now had LA took him.. Oak isn't terrible he's just injury prone, had a terrible attitude early in house career.. he averaged 17 and 7 his rookie year on good efficiency.. Then got in that fight, suspended from the team, came back got injured then that's where the downfall began.
Devin Booker when he made 70 and lost reminded me of a my player with crazy potential you play in 2K on the team you expect to hold it down while you lead. That Man is impressive
Because Kings didn't have any other centers. In 2014 they had Sim Bhullar, which obviously wasn't working, and Ryan Hollins, a career journeyman who only sign a 1yr. It made sense to draft a young, athletic center especially with the Kentucky Wildcat connection.
@@elizabethgeorge168 No it didn't. You can get a damn backup Center in free agency. "Lord give me strength" ...lol. Devin Booker w Boogie would've been lethal.
Devin Booker's no Kobe. Kobe was way more explosive going to the basket and while yes Booker has made huge stride on defense, something he doesn't get enough credit for, he's still not what Kobe was, but to be fair, hand checking was still allowed when Kobe was Devin Booker's age. But also when Kobe was Devin Booker's age, he scored 30 points per game when he was allowed to be hand checked and took it up a notch to 32 per game in the playoffs. The Lakers may have lost in the second round that year but undeniably had tougher competition than Booker had that year. Booker's made some Kobe like shots, I''ll give him that, but he doesn't have that burst that Kobe had.
@@moukhshiii7220 to be fair Klay is one of the greatest shooters ever, played with Steph, draymond and KD and has never been asked to be a primary ball handler or create for himself and others.
Andy one day you think you could make a video, on your process of making your videos? Like how you find footage/photos, picking topics, voiceovers, etc. I think that’d be interesting
Getting too ahead Andy, Booker is a great player, but it's just one playoff run against a depleted Lakers squad and a shortened season. So this upcoming should be a true test for him. What I do like about Booker is his motion similar to Kobe's, so that's a plus.
This was after the finals and you still think it was one series he was the main or almost main behind cp3 but a lot main player to get him 2 wins from a chip and it’s not anyone on the suns fault giannis blew up
The Jazz would not have had a Booker-Mitchell backcourt because Trey Lyles was the player the Jazz traded to Denver to get Donovan Mitchell. In a way, the Trey Lyles pick turned out very not bad for the Jazz.
Andy Hoops...it's probably my fave NBA RU-vid channel!.. he knows what he's doing!.. keeps U engaged with questions..other day.." why did Stanley Johnson become a bust!?"... And then he'll give u all the reasons why with that funny music in the background..😆
Kahlil was not served well in Philly or by the so-called Process. All Philly has to show is Embiid for years of picks, while failing to develop players (MCW, Nerlens Noel), or bad trades (Tatum). If Kahlil had gone to a franchise that properly developed players (Toronto, SA, Miami) he would be a completely different player.
So what exactly has made Booker a better player than KAT all of a sudden? The fact that his organization surrounded him with a deep, talented roster and got him a great coach? KAT is better on both offense and defense don’t get it twisted
Booker hasn´t surpassed KAT in any way, recency bias at it´s finest. Booker hasn´t proved anything, this season CP3 was the best player on the team, like wth, comparing him to KOBE???? no way
@@trvspvrk no, it’s an actual take that doesn’t have any recency bias and actually uses logic. KAT is better on both ends than booker. Booker only put up numbers in the playoffs because of all the shots he took, he was horribly inefficient and bad on defense. First round exit every year under normal healthy circumstances
Ok lol the knicks regret drafting porzingis?? He had some issues, but for a fourth pick his career is decent so far, look through other fourth picks! Jaren Jackson Jr, Josh Jackson, Dragan bender, Cody Zeller? I think KP is on par with expectations for a fourth pick
this dude ain't gon' be no kobe bruh like nah bruh he's good but not THAT good like kobe is an all time great top 10 player of all time booker ain't that man, i doubt he even wins a championship unless he goes to a superteam
Not even gonna lie those original draft ceiling predictions aren’t even bad, having klay Thompson or prime Gordon Hayward beforr injury? That’s pretty good
Lebron,AD,luka, dame, steph, jokic, embid,kd,irving, harden, kawhi, jason tatum, giannis these 14 guys are 100% that better than him.And the you have guys who are maybe better but they are close like lavine, young, clay t,zion,kat,mitchell,pg....
@Jasaun Thompson Giannis KD Curry LeBron Kawhi Jokic Luka Harden Lillard Westbrook CP3 Kyrie Tatum AD Mitchell Trae Embiid PG13 Butler Beal Are all better or atleast the same level. He is not an "easy" top 15 player
Magic Johnson was right about D'Angelo Russell at the time. Russell wasn't a leader then, and teammates lost respect for him after the Nick Young incident. A fresh start was necessary for him. Despite that, I don't think the Lakers regret drafting him. His contract was necessary to trade away Timofey Mosgov for Brook Lopez' expiring contract. As a result, they got a lot of cap space for the 2018 off-season. We know what happened then.
How he’s proven to be better than those guys for years stop the hate he’s been doing better all he needed was a pg next to him and he was gon be successful
KAT is a great player. He just didn't commit much on improving his game more since he got a big contract. I wish he would change that kind of mentality and keep on improving instead.
Nah. Book still looks like Klay. An unleashed Klay. His playstyle is so different to Kobe's except for the fades. Kobe attacked the rim more and is a more skilled one-on-one player.
we he had limit minutes because kentucky was so deep that year the harrison twins was decent starters that help kentucky made a run to the title a year ago
You cannot say Booker is better than Towns because his team is performing better, they're both about equivalent in scoring when it comes to scoring magnitude and efficiency, and both are pretty bad defenders, but Towns is objectively a better defender than Booker as well as one of the best rebounders in the league, and he is in perhaps the WORST possible situation compared to Booker being in the BEST. I expected better from Andy.
KAT is the best player the timberwolves have had since KG. it’s a shame he plays for such a tanking franchise. I really thought D Lo was going to be the future of the lakers but we all saw how that turned out. Okafor was a major bust. Porzingis was solid with the Knicks. A core piece of the franchise but that didn’t pan out. Now he’s the second option behind Luka. A scary 1-2 punch for Dallas. Hezonja’s only highlight was that block on LeBron. Cauley-Stein was a role player on the kings who bounced around from team to team. He did have some good moments in Dallas though. Mudiay bust. Stanley Johnson was drafted by the pistons. I think that’s all we need to say about that. Frank Kaminsky a solid rebounding big man who can shoot but his post play is kind of rocky. Winslow was a young piece that the heat could build around but injuries decimated his career. Myles Turner probably the third best player from that draft. A big time defensive center who is an elite shot blocker and rebounder. Trey Lyles was part of the jazz during the rebuilding phase and is now in another in San Antonio.
Does anyone else going on Wiki and look at the previous drafts of the last 20 years and see how many top picks fizzle out? It’s always crazy to me with how much hype we give these players before the draft and the odds aren’t in their favor. Ha
I’m going to say this the reason Devin booker is honestly having a better career right now is because of Chris Paul they probably still wouldn’t of been in the playoffs if they didn’t pick up Chris Paul but hindsight is 2020
I mean they were a Caris LeVert buzzer beater away from making the 8th seed in the bubble all while Deandre Ayton missed 25 games at the beginning of the 2019-2020 season.
@@arodbooker2769 people don’t actually watch basketball. They would have been 6-7 or 8 this seed without cp3. Obviously cp3 got did great for them and raised their ceiling. But people really act like ayton did not miss around 30 games.
the guy dropped 70 points in an actual game w/ no cp3. i know the context about him being the only scoring option on the team at the time etc. but it takes a special player to drop 70 points no matter the scenario. w/ cp3 they got further in the playoffs for sure, but they came seriously close the season prior
The problem with young players who are exceptional is that they get compared to legends and that becomes a problem. Instead of being like them, why not become your own type of player.
Kobe mamba's Recarnation?! Same lucky #13 on the Draft Kobe Draft 1996 and Booker Draft Kobe's last Season. Coinsidence maybe same but not Almost. DBook1 He's young the Future of his team hopefully he bring the Valley a ring.
If not for Trey Lyles the Jazz would have never gotten Mitchell in the 1st place. So I highly doubt you would have seen a Mitchell and Booker backcourt.
Very interesting but underwhelming draft class. Karl Anthony Towns mucking around on the perimeter! Get on the block man and go to work n grab some offensive board's!.. that's where he's most valuable.
Seeing how some of these players either dropped off or stagnate is just sad. The teams that drafted a lot of these guys suck. Only Devon Booker had the raw talent to power through playing for a shit franchise.
I think Booker has been the best player from that draft for quite some time. It's safe to say he's been even better than KAT at least since their sophomore year in the league. He has looked very special as an offensive player, kind of a generstional talent. But surprisingly, I don't think he raised his game significantly this past season, even when it was his team's best (exponentialy best). He didn't always seem that special. He's always been good no doubt, but it was only this season that it could be saud he wasn't clearly that better than other star scorers like Lillard, Kyrie, Mitchell, Beal, etc.
Lol, KAT is a lot better than Booker. Unless you're a casual you would know KAT is a better shooter, still a better defender, better passer, and a lot more efficient. You only think this because KAT is losing.
@@itzfusionplex4266 At least they are at the same level. Denying Booker is at least as good as KAT is like saying prime Kobe was not as good as Shaq just because Shaq was more efficient or whatever.
What I hate in this type of videos, is that they don't say what the team needs at that time; for example if jazz had booker I don't think they'll get still Mitchell in '17 draft.
if phoenix got knocked out by the lakers, there was a strong chance booker was going to bolt to play with his buddy KAT. also, sure he might be able to score like kobe, but he can't defend like kobe.
